“Well… Happy New Year!  What a journey it’s been so far.  We have released our first ever album (our self-titled debut EP).  We’ve toured the east-coast, from Airlie Beach to Hobart five times.  We’re making new friends, lots of new friends.  We’ve played venues and shows and festivals that we haven't played before, and we’ve even released our third music video for our latest single, What They Said.  All of this was only possible because of your never ending love and support.” - These are the words Rick and Troy used to briefly sum up their journey so far in a newsletter for their fans.  It’s no surprise then, given Silk 'N' Oak’s reputation as a hard working and committed band, that the post went on to say new music was on it’s way, saying, “we aren't making any promises, other than we are making more music and we can't wait to share it”. 


Formed in 2013, Silk ’N’ Oak were originally a folk-rock duo, but have recently undergone an evolutionary transformation into a five-piece alternative rock outfit in the short space of 5 months. Still fronted by brothers Rick and Troy Saunders, Silk ’N’ Oak have five east-coast tours under their belt, a bootleg self-titled EP, three singles, and they’ve hosted two successful boutique music festivals in South-East Queensland, Australia.

In the early days, after playing in bands with classmates and friends, the boys decided to have a go on their own: winning the busking competition at Urban Country Music Festival on their first outing in early 2014. Rick & Troy made the UCMF line up again in 2015 and 2016 and have since played Airlie Beach Festival of Music, Gympie Music Muster, Caxton Street Festival and O'Heart Festival.


The momentum didn't stop in 2016 though. After a stupendous first tour, with Troy only 17 years of age, the lads spent nearly two months in Tasmania. “We just wanted to relax and write music in a new setting,” explains Troy. “It was in the absence of pressure and in the presence of serendipity that we were able to write the music we wanted.” 


The songsters then organised and hosted an extremely successful debut EP launch, called The Silk 'N' Oak Show, where they combined efforts with Parkie’s Adventures Inc. to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease. Straight after, they embarked on Part#1 and Part#2 of their Debut EP Release tour - playing a handful of shows between Townsville and Hobart.  Since the success of The Silk 'N' Oak Show, Rick & Troy have decided to dedicate a lot of their spare time to building a strong following for the boutique festival. They say it is founded upon the idea that regional communities are starving for quality original music. "All we're doing is bringing a handful of brilliant original acts to a small town, and we help ease their hunger," says Rick.


The boys most recent release, What They Said, was released alongside a homemade music video. Shot with iPhones on a short tour to Tasmania, we see snippets of countryside from Seath-East Queensland to Southern Tasmania. 

 Now after a successful 2017 and a band line-up just like Rick and Troy imagined, they plan on doing more of what they know - playing live shows, and lots of them. “We want to push ourselves this year, we want to gig more, we want to release more, and we want to write more,” says Troy.
“It’s only really the beginning for us,” states Rick. “We haven’t even got a foot in the door in terms of the music industry. But we’re having so much fun, which for us now - and hopefully always - is all that really matters.”

River is an Australian rapper, singer/song writer based on the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia), who uses deep emotive lyrics, and unique word play to paint pictures and tell stories with a greater purpose. 

Over the past five years River has been a part of the folk/rap band Weather Permitting ( now known as River Movement) writing songs and combining with wonderful musicians to create out of the box songs that speak of hope and truth. As a result, this has often led River into uncharted territory when it comes to rap, due to the unique influence of this collaborative context.
