ABOUT THIS EP

Hisham Dahud, known professionally as RIŻIK, begins his writing process like so many others before him: on the piano. As a multi-instrumentalist, composer and record producer, the majority of what he writes goes on to become fully produced works with layers of instruments through the assistance of digital audio workstations. 

His 'Panorama' series, however, aims to offer a gentler and more raw approach. His vision is to bring forward a human touch and rawness through the use of acoustic instruments that come from, and thus reach, a more innate place within the human spirit. 

Recorded at Apex Arts Studios in Burbank, California on a modified Yamaha U1, this body of material is Volume 1 of what he calls the "Panorama Sessions", reflecting a day of live performance recordings and returning to center as a musician first above everything else.

Future Panorama Sessions will expand the sound to include more humans, but for now... this is where it all begins.

Stripping down Rizik's original spacey and ambient track Outer Heaven, this version brings the essence forward: a trip to the greener side of the grass. Recorded on a modified Yamaha U3 piano, this more somber version of Outer Heaven features an all new middle section that was improvised, and yet feels like it belonged the entire time.

Outer Heaven (Panorama)

Khalo is the Arabic word for "uncle" -- for whom this song is named after. I was sitting at the piano when I got the text that he had just passed away. Stunned and emotionless at the time, my right hand began hitting the quarter notes you hear in the beginning, which gave birth to the chords, melody and full arrangement -- all of which came to me at that very moment. This song literally wrote itself and I hope it taps into people's emotions in order to help them hold loved ones in their heart as they hear it.

Crystal Lake is a delicate, solo piano piece written at a low point in Rizik's life. Recorded on a modified Yamaha U3 piano, the track carries a somber overtone, yet speaks to a hopeful return to homeostasis. The visual is cold and at points bleak -- yet the picture painted is ultimately one of moving forward.

Alone Together (Panorama) was the first of Rizik's tracks to really "blow up" online, with over 2 million streams across streaming, regular requests for sheet music, and a live performance favorite. Recorded on a modified Yamaha U3, this live version is an expertly played rendition of the song many across the world have come to know and love.
