BINAURAL Thunderstorm & Rain | 3D-Audio-Experience - WEAR HEADPHONES

My third release of pure-thunderstorm based sounds, this track compiles several storms I recorded on a patio in Detroit in late 2013. A variety of lightning cracks, thunder bellows, and different forms of rain can be heard across the 8+ minutes, with some light urban sounds finishing out the soundscape (generally when recording rain I try to only capture rain, in this environment a few cars splashing down the road were inevitable due to my proximity to a fairly busy street). This recording also marks the end of my material I taped using my older Tascam field recorder (from now on my recordings will be available in 96K as opposed to 44.1K) Feel free to add this to your favorite sleep playlist or use as a daily unwinding tool, plug in your best headphones and enjoy!

Here is a thunderstorm I recorded with a Sennheiser MKH-8040ST at 1:30AM on April 24, 2012. The unpredictable nature of thunder is that you never know what you are going to get. I usually hope for the best and even have my front entrance modified with removable baffles to mute the rain drips but every now and then I can get some real nice claps and lightning strikes that need little to no clean up to make them sound good. They are what they are. These gems also come from recording a storm at night when it is really nice and quiet here. Since I cannot command the thunder gods to play at night I am at their mercy as to when I record. So, sometimes I have to record during the day. This track has some rain and wind but it makes for a nice soundscape.

The best thunder I record happens when the storm is going around the ranch maybe to the North or from the South to the East. My recording location (right in front of my door) faces North so when a thunderstorm comes in from the West or South I really hope it makes a direction change and skirts around me. When this happens I usually get many takes without the heavy rain and wind associated with a severe thunderstorm. The best times are at the start of the storm and right after it passes. I have witnessed hours of thunder to the North and South of me without rain and wind but that is very rare.
