Shiny Objects returns to Roam Recordings with the brilliant Lights of Fire EP. After a successful year running his iconic San Francisco clubs Monarch and the Great Northern Shiny Objects aka Chris Smith rejoins Roam to follow up his previous Bad Acid and Purest Sound EPs with two new originals. The title track is a low slung slice of beautiful electronics that is at the same time meditative, blissful, comforting, and unique. The other original, Dirty Darlins, ups the tempo while adding a hint of dark disco.

The EP is supported with two excellent remixes. The first is from Man Power who remains faithful to the intent of the original Lights of Fire while turning it into a dance floor burner. Also joining the EP is Spanish DJ/Producer Undo who brings a dark big system electro flavor to Dirty Darlins. 

The originals and remixes that make up the Lights of Fire EP continue to bring a variety of unique sounds and moods for which Roam Recordings has become known.

Valeriu Borcos and Eduard Gabia are Karpov not Kasparov, a musical game of
chess between synthesizers and drums. Beginning in Bucharest in 2009, the duo
soon incorporated an analogue visual artist and contemporary dancers into their
live performances, resulting in a theatrical show and a kind of real-time soundtrack to
the action around them. The duo’s unique dynamic creates a psychedelic synthdriven
sound, combining oriental melodies with the drive of a full live drum kit.
“Soundtrack for a game of Chess” is their debut LP, comprising a selection of the
best tracks from their previous two EPs, which never appeared on vinyl.
“Mechanical Turk”, named after a faux chess-playing machine constructed in the
late 18th century, displays the darker side to the band’s undulating sound, as the
vintage synth creates a spacey Eastern overlay to the driving bass and drums.
There are moments of downbeat jazz-infused introspection, such as the track
“Kaissa”, named after the goddess of chess, as well as the ever-onward kraut
drums of “Choose you colour gipsy dark” overlaid with the rise and fall of a pulsating
synth. Yet the record is not simply a dark synth composition, at times K not K sway
towards a more playful, experimental pop sound reminiscent of early electronic
pioneers such as Harmonia or Vangelis, while still managing to retain a modern,
otherworldly feel.
Having garnered great acclaim within their native Romania, their debut EPs also
received high praise internationally from sources such as WFMU. While last year,
Mehmet Aslan’s re-work of “Mechanical Turk” released on Huntleys + Palmers
made waves across the dance floors of the world. They’re now set to release their
debut LP on Polychrome Sounds this Summer and will be touring Europe from 
Spring onwards.

Karpov not Kasparov - Mechanical Turk

After his Kinfolk released collab with Otologic's Nick Murrary, Kris Baha makes a welcome return to his Power Station creation. A versatile five track EP that will get you through the night, one pictures Yello's virgin ketamine experiments on 'Mind Your Head' before 'Jeff' comes to the party with his mad professor dub, giving you whiplash with its belting beats and crashing guitar stabs. Originally designed as an hour long opening score for the namesake Melbourne club night, 'Around You Go' is an edited warm up tool, the crossroad between Düsseldorf and Elettronica Meccanica. If issued in 1983, '2 Nights in Armenia' would have lived on as a Cosmic classic while 'ArpB' is the listeners' exit music, a fork hanging from the power socket.

Mytron & Ofofo make Multi Culti great again with a full, fun, five-track EP. 

Little is known about this freaky duo whose sound straddles opposing polarities, merging organics and synthetics, joining traditional textures with futuristic finish. These are sample-licious tracks that also feature original vocals and raw analog synths. They are noisy but clean, rough but smooth, soft AND crunchy.  

On one hand, it's mad-cap multicultural disco funk as on Si Jambo (translated loosely as 'ALL GOOD') and 2Tac Onana, and on the other it's cybernetic weirdness and italo-inflected electro with 'Non-Binary Joys on the Venus Holodeck' and 'Czary Mary,' which sounds like it could be the flip-side to Sharivari.  

In between this binary divide is 'Something For the Mind,' (which is featured here) a brilliant piece of pop music that springs lightly into your brain with catchy bleeps, incredible vocoder, and a beat guaranteed to get the braindance party started.

Mytron & Ofofo - Something for the Mind

Making a debut appearance on last year's Invisible Friends compilation Invisible Inc. is presenting release a full 4- track EP from the enigmatic and mysterious Immaculate Rivombo.
Originally from Burundi, Africa, Immaculate has been living in Berlin for the last five years, where she's been honing her sound: a fresh fusion of the city's infamous love of techno with the wholly organic sounds from her homelands adding a welcome warmth to the recordings: live djembe, square drum, metal castanets, bongos, quiro, jew's harp and mbira.
Combined with her siganture use of TB-303 the concoction brings entirely new meanning to the term "tribal" techno.

Dirty Darlins (Original Mix) - Shiny Objects

Flash Atkins has pulled in Charlie Sinclair, singer from one of Manchester's hottest new bands, Sylvette for a collaboration that promises to be the start of something special.  The track has already been gathering heat, with Bill Brewster calling it 'one of his favourite house records of 2017' and reports of it rocking ALFOS and The Warehouse Project.

The original has a throbbing sub over clipped techy drums, muted guitar and an incessant Moog riff.  But the killer punch is Charlie Sinclair's soulful, intimate vocals that sit beautifully over the music.  The groove is locked and builds to the break where a hint of disco hits the floor before the final section brings in the bells to devastating effect.  The end result is a track that is destined to knock socks off in the coming months.  You were warned. 

Sean Johnston liked it so much he asked to do a remix and the result is everything you would expect from the Hardway Brothers.  He keeps the original elements but toughens things up with added oomph, taking it in a proto house and techno direction.  

Finally Tal M. Klein strips the track back to it's bare basics with devastating effect. Just a kick, the guitar and serious compression provide space for the tripped out vocal and a truly psychedelic deep house experience.
