Solid Steel - the world’s longest running mix series - returns with a special two-hour mix from Ben UFO.

Speaking to us about the mix, Ben said: “This is the set I played at last year's Meakusma Festival. It's been one of my favourite events for the past three years running, and I've programmed a stage at the last two editions. Last summer I was joined by Kara-Lis Coverdale, Jay Glass Dubs and the Timedance crew - Batu, Ploy and Bruce. It's one of the only events I can think of where dance music co-exists with a broad range of experimental music in a way that feels natural, unpretentious and unforced. I love it there, and hopefully that comes across in this recording."

Employing strands from multiple influences that inform his diverse musical output, he applies a contemporary lens to fragments of EBM, New Beat, trance, rave and techno. Since debuting with his first EP on Hotflush back in 2012, Locked Groove has delved into various genres to inform his constantly evolving sound. Drawing on an acute melodic ear developed whilst training as a classical pianist, all of his productions are underscored by an inherent sense of musicality. Using a diverse range of influences, he translates their sentiments into hybrid dance floor constructions that look primarily towards the 90s rave culture of Belgium, with a subtle nod to the UK.


Written over a one year period with combination of analog and digital equipment at his Berlin studio, Sunset Service documents the synthesis of a carefully studied musical background into one coherent body of work. Across twelve tracks, Locked Groove forges cathartic build-ups with intricate pads and floating melodies, re-purposing references - both subtle and overt - from the musical subcultures of his Belgian homeland. But although there is a strong connection to the past, these allusions are carefully moulded into a singular, forward-thinking sound.

Sevensol is one true original of Leipzigs music scene. Together with Map.Ache and Bender he is owning KANN Label since 11 years already. This year they published their 41st release! Some years ago they even had their own record store in the south of Leipzig. But having to invest so much into new records every week wasn’t the real deal, so they focused on rather playing and releasing records. Sevensol in combination with Map.Ache is forming the DJ Team Manamana as which they are part of the residents of Nachtdigital festival, which took place for 22 consecutive years in Saxonias Olganitz.

Because 2020 is what it is, we won't be celebrating the new year like we should, surrounded by steel, concrete, loud music and of course people we love. 
As a very, very small consolation, here is the recording of the previous NYE edition @UKW. It was our first time playing together and it filled us with joy and confidence. Sharing this past moment of happiness is the least we can do to cheer you up.
