I always find it phenomenal to listen to 6 mallets. (When you going to do 8?) HaHa. The 6-mallet control requires super skill and dexterity... clearly shown here. Very pleasing contrast of tones between the high-pitched, svelte violin and low rich, resonant marimba.... they occupy two completely different aural spaces and so, while being fairly 'busy' melodic lines, never get in the way of each other. You can easily individually focus on one, or the other.... or, the two simultaneously. Likely, that wasn't your intention, but I found myself moving back and forth between individual instruments and the two in unison... just like what they call in graphics - lenticular images - where the viewer can see different images depending upon the angle of viewing. Pardon my meandering - awesome composition!

Love the timbre of the Marimba sound recording, can really hear just the right amount of bass resonance coming through.

PROGRAM NOTES

The title of this piece reflects the structure: many parts and motives are linked and looped together, forming chains. There are also missing links throughout the piece, spots where notes have been dropped out and placed in other parts of the piece or else lost entirely. The violin part is designed to be a showy and slightly virtuosic, coupled with a solid, ostinato-like marimba counterpart. Both parts utilize flashy, extended techniques.
