Rob Munday - Dope Sessions

Well this is the 3rd instalment of the Northern Breaksposure series and I thought I would treat you to an almost 4 hour music feast as per the trend.

However there is a twist with this mix, I have decided to pay tribute and respect to my current favourite DJ's from USA and Russia. This mix includes a monty of original productions and remixes by the following kings of dopeness: Jayson Butera, Rick Tedesco, Digital Department, Dave Gluskin and Trukers. The focus is on my preferred material of theirs with a cherry picked selection of my own all time favourite tracks too. The final track by the way is an epic little production by 'Not Forgotten' which deserves top credit and recognition. It's a very clever remix of Togethers - Hardcore Uproar which has an excellent proggy intro with plenty of news reporter samples etc. Well done 'Not Forgotten'. It took me a while to put this together as I treated it as a careful project which hopefully portrays a journey of musical magic for your ears.

Rob Munday - Variations On A Jody Theme

This is the 2nd mix in my 'Variations On A' tribute series paying attention to (The Man Like) Sasha.

With this mix my intention was to mirror not only just Sasha's track selection but his mixing style also.

The mix kicks off with the Loquai remix of his belting track 'Cut Me Down' which immediately invokes the atmosphere of what is to follow. Namely a blend of serious driving proggy, breaks and deep dopeness. Big respect to Abdomen Burst also, I have included a couple of my favourite tracks of his including the last epic finale.

Rob Munday - Variations On A Sasha Theme

The theme of this mix was inspired by my early clubbing days at a dingy dive of a night called Tangled @ Club Phoenix in Manchester.

The venue was small and claustrophobic but it still remains to have been one of the most successful underground house and trance nights in the North West, similar to the Hacienda in many respects. This night had some brilliant resident Dj's including Phil Morse, Terry Pointon, Steve Thorpe, Herbie Saccini and also pulled in regular big name guest Dj's like Hybrid, Hyper and Nick Warren to name but a few.

Many of the tracks on this were played in the club regularly and this mix will give you an insight into the magic that was generated by a 'one off' of a club.

This is the follow up and sequel mix to my Breaking Bad mix which I did about 2 years ago.

Includes quite a fair bit of old material that is classic to the core in my opinion and not mainstream. Also a couple of fresh brand new tracks and remixes.

Massive respect and appreciation going out to Bicep who are almost like the new "Trafik" in my opinion. 4 of their tracks are featured on this mix including their remix of Isaac Tichauer's - Higher Level. Cannot get enough of this track, sincerely dope indeed and great to mix in and out of.

Usual care and attention gone into making the mixing a nice blend for your prog thirsty ears ;O)

Being a keen follower of the progressive scene for almost 2 decades, i've naturally been inspired by plenty of classic tracks that have had a big impact on passion for progressive music. Covering some of my all time favourites this is heavily influenced by the following artists:- Sasha, Digweed, Hybrid, Trafik, BT, Luke Chable, Dave Seaman.
 
I fell in love with the 1st track as soon as i heard it on a Lexicon Avenue set, it's fucking great. I used the Acapella only to begin the set and threw a proggy breakbeat starting track into it to get things moving (Ictus -The Look) which i originally ID'd from a Sasha set.
 
This set instantly invokes a moody dominating atmosphere and should invoke memories. Enjoy.

This mix highlights a load of my favourite remixes of fantastic tracks, especially the Cotton Club remix of Children which has always been one of my signature intro tunes when playing out. The clue is in the title with this. A Lot of time and effort has been dedicated to producing a mix which will appeal more to the old skool enthusiasts so to speak. The track selection has been purposely cherry picked to include scarce and in-demand rarities that have taken many years to hunt down.

This mix includes a fair few trophy tunes aswell as some tunage that you don’t get to hear that much. The mix is aimed at people who want to hear tunes that are not as overplayed aswell as hopefully providing some ID’s for some of you peeps!

Rob Munday - Trophy Tunes

The theme of this mix was inspired by my early clubbing days at a dingy dive of a night called Tangled @ Club Phoenix in Manchester. The venue was small and chlostraphobic but it still remains to have been one of the most successful underground house and trance nights in the North West, similar to the Hacienda in many repects. This night had some brilliant resident Dj's including Phil Morse, Terry Pointon, Steve Thorpe, Herbie Saccini and also pulled in regular big name guest Dj's like Hybrid, Hyper and Nick Warren to name but a few.
 
Many of the tracks on this were played in the club regulary and this mix will give you an insight into the magic that was generated by a 'one off' of a club.

This is a mix i did just before i went to Ibiza in 2006 where i got hammered and kept people awake for a few hours whilst doing naughty shit like throwing water bombs off the balcony at people then hiding. This is my latest old skool mix that i did at xmas 2006, it's a mixture between uplifting Bowlers style piano tracks and a few moodier tracks. My personal favourites on this cd are I Want Bass, Touch Me, What You Wanna Be, Body & Soul & Love Can Do. (Oh yeah not to mention the screamer piano stomper of Ride Like The Wind at the end.)

This a mix i did back in December 2005, it's classics again with one of my personal favourites that never gets enough mention - Pianoman & Nils Booth - Revelation. Bit of scratching at the start with the top samples from Yello - Unbelievable.

Rob Munday - Piano Medley

A few years ago myself and a few pals used to promote and tun a night in Manchester called 'Flow'. We played a selection of house music ranging from new and funky stuff to old skool classics. I used to DJ the last set of the night and this was typically a variation of my trademark set. The mix includes many of my preferred remixes of the typical crowdpleaser tracks as well as some lesser known tunes for the enthusiasts. This mix will appeal to everybody.

Highlight of the mix for me is the build up of Sasha's remix of Evolutions - Metropolis (Can't Stop The Feeling) track which is enhanced and tweaked with the addition of Chantel - The Realm acapella over the top.

Rob Munday - Keep Bustin

My first mix in a while since the passing of my Brother, had this planned out for a while and only just had the motivation to record it. Couple of tracks on here make me think of him including the amazing All I Want by Alt-A (lyrics come in at 55 mins and 45 seconds). Lesson being always make sure the important people in your life know how much you love them as you cannot do this when they are gone.

Usual attention to detail trying to make this a decent journey of cutting edge electronic music for your ears. Anyone can mix these days with advancing technology so in my opinion the difference is in the track selection and how the mix is blended.

Some track inspiration from DJ Steve Thorpe who used to be a resident DJ at the legendary Tangled nigh sat Club Phoenix in Manchester. Other inspirations include Joe Wink, Digital Department, Jayson Butera, Grade-E, Sasha, BICEP plus anything I think sounds cool!

Rob Munday - To The Batmobile

Rob started getting passionate about house music from his early teens. He was initially tuning into Stu Allan's mix show at weekends where he would begin to educate his virgin ears with what i would describe as audible magic. Rob had a DJ's ethos from day one as he would live record the tunes he liked onto cassette whilst doing on the fly edits to remove the advert breaks.
 
As his knowledge and experience of music increased, he found himself becoming naturally inquisitive about the technical side of mixing and was fascinated at how an atmosphere can be manipulated, altered and changed just by spinning plastic and tweaking a few nobs and faders. This eventually lead him to getting a pair of Technics 1210's about 15 years ago and the rest is history.
 
In the beginning his main passion was for old skool and classic house from early 90's, however his musical taste has since matured to genres including progressive house, electro and breakbeat.
 
Plenty of DJ's and producers have been a huge influence on Rob and you will hear a lot of their material featured on his mixes. Rob would like to take this opportunity to drop a few names and pay his respects to the following:-
