Slap & Tickle Podcast - Episode 023 - Shiba San

This is the first Cuddlebounce mix. 

Cuddlebounce was born out of a beautiful experience I had this summer in the Balearics where the party had completely wound down to only the people who truly loved the music. Instead of the dancing being the usual individualistic pursuit, everyone was essentially cuddled up on one another, shoulders touching shoulders, bouncing to the beat as a collective whole. 

The sound is essentially uplifting DEEP house.

This first Cuddlebounce is a concept mix. Love Lost was inspired by some of the more emotive songs that have spoken to me recently as I have had to navigate the ups and downs that life invariably throws our way.

This was a really special mix for me to put together. My hope is that this mix will make you feel something that will encourage you to welcome even more love into your life, whatever that might mean for you.

The hypnotic momentum of the night passes to the hands of DJ Three as light begins to fill sky and the new day creeps ever closer.  For forty breathless minutes we wait… until at last the sun breaks over the horizon, and a collage of verbal musings, psychedelia and ornate music fills the air.  Toying with echoes and teasing with nuance, shutters fluttering to capture the fleeting moment…a moment not soon forgotten for those who were lucky enough to be there, at sunrise on Sunday, Black Rock City, Burning Man, 2014.   And then, just as easily as we are led into that place, a whole movement of sound and energy returns the dance floor.

This was my first ever Burning Man experience. I am in fact still trying to find the right words to describe my experience there. 
Moreover the Robot Heart performance. But sometimes music really shouldn't be described with words. At least in my position being an artist & composer. 
So thank you that this magical journey of mine was recorded!
It was quite something to be on top of that bus as the burners rode in on their bikes. And when the bus took off watching everyone jump right back on their bikes and follow the bus in what I can only call a ‘mass exodus’ onto the playa. I decided to dig deep into my old productions and new and some of my favourite journey tracks for this mix.
Thank you, big hug and love to all who joined in and danced along, and to Camp David, Robot Heart & Jonny for getting me involved.
I hope to be a part of this again. Either way, I’ll See you again next year for sure!

Everybody loves blondes right? Well In the last few years we’ve become even more of a fan of the fair, well ish as Canadian born London based duo Blond:ish have captured our attention with their unique production recipe which focuses on the art of creating music that is organic and multi-dimensional. Provocative basslines contrast with smooth textures and haunting vocals to defy categorization as anything other than cool. 

Thus it is with great excitement we welcome the girls in for this weeks podcast after a huge 2012 wherein they stormed the scene with a series of big releases including their psychedelic influenced ‘Lovers In Limbo’ EP  on Kompakt  which showcased Blond:ish’s curiosity of the late 60’s musical movement, as well dropping stellar efforts for Noir Music, NM2 and Get Physical. 

So with a big year behind them and even bigger 2013 planned with an extensive set of tour dates including Flying Circus in Ibiza at the end of the month and the Chicago leg of the Electric Daisy Carnival, things certainly seem to be looking up for the duo.  Quirky and innovative, very much like their native city of Montreal and the organized chaos that have accompanied their sets there since they burst onto the scene with their acclaimed residency at the city’s Cherry Club, we think the mix they’ve delivered from a small village in deepest, darkest Mexico is the perfect thing to get you in the mood for the summer ahead. Spectrum: a broad range of varied but related ideas whose individual features overlap and form a continuous sequence. By definition, a mix is a spectrum, and in this case, a collection of songs unified and differentiated by the softer, more delicate side of house music. This mix also marks the 3 year anniversary since releasing first mix back in June 2010. After going back and listening to my first few mixes, it's interesting to reflect on how my mix styles and taste have varied as much as they've stayed the same over time...The mixes fill a spectrum of their own and are perhaps indicative of what I've recently been finding, which is that at various levels of abstraction, all things are connected in some way, despite their differences.
