The acclaimed Luxembourg-based producer Victor Ferreira (aka Sun Glitters) returns with a new full-length album LO-FI-LO-VE this fall, a follow-up to his 2017 retro-futuristic visual album It Will Be Forever.

Since arriving in 2011—at the crest of an era overflowing with blissful synth projects—Ferreira has earned a loyal following through consistent output, collaboration, worldwide tours, and festival appearances. With remixes for Purity Ring, Slow Magic, Blue Foundation and numerous others, and live support for the likes of Moderat, Son Lux and Gold Panda, Ferreira has quickly left a mark on the electronic music scene. Over the years, he has received glowing coverage from Dazed & Confused, BBC, Resident Advisor, Earmilk, XLR8R, Pitchfork, The Guardian, VICE, and a bevy of other trend setting music outlets.

LO-FI-LO-VE sees Ferreira taking another new creative step in his career as a music producer, video director, and graphic design artist. All three are essential to Sun Glitters’ raison d’être, and with LO-FI-LO-VE, Ferreira is once again pushing his artistic curiosity to the limit. Unbothered by the prospect of change, Ferreira urges his listeners and viewers to keep an open mind and shift focus. While It Will Be Forever offered a closer look into the remarkable and unremarkable everyday moments—along with a subtle existential message underneath the accompanying music and videos—LO-FI-LO-VE sends a heartfelt and emotive pulse directly into the soul. From start to finish, Ferreira manages to arouse those most human of emotions on his new album: joy, pain, remembering, forgetting, loss, and of course, love. The 13 tracks on LO-FI-LO-VE are an exploration of these feelings; they are gentle and ethereal, but also focused and honest. There is no pretense here, especially that everything is always fine. It is not. As the track 6 title suggests, It’s Almost Perfectly — almost, but not quite. The soul’s journey is as bleak as it is beautiful, and for 47 minutes, LO-FI-LO-VE attempts to capture that enigmatic energy.

There are few acts that can glide so seamlessly across genres as Arms and Sleepers. For well over a decade, the American music duo Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic have explored trip-hop, electronica, ambient, hip-hop and subtle pop with deftness and grace. So it makes sense that a group so familiar with exploring multiple sounds and styles will kick off 2020 with their most ambitious and multifaceted project to date.

The pair’s ninth studio album, 'Safe Area Earth', will be the first of a six-part music series to be released throughout the year. This series will include 3 full-length albums and 3 EPs. Ramic explains it as “a highly conceptual project based in part on my childhood and teenage years of traveling the globe as a Bosnian refugee.” The project is also “an attempt to explore the growing personal anxiety about the meaning of one's own existence and the impending, fast-approaching end-date to that existence. Each upcoming release will be thematically focused on a facet of human life.”

The first installment, 'Safe Area Earth', possesses a magical quality to it that feels emblematic of the beginning of a journey — one that sonically represents both possibilities but also uncertainties. There are heady and immersive atmospheres that wash over the listeners via waves of glistening electronics, there are gently cracking and snapping beats that allow melody to glide in and out of them, and vocals that at times resemble choral music with their deeply textured nature. “In many ways this is a return to the melancholic early days of Arms and Sleepers,” Ramic says. “It’s a slow record with our more heavily ambient leanings of the past, but the focus is more on the overall mood and experience. It offers a different feel both musically and emotionally — perhaps a darker, more pessimistic overall tone.”

Whilst the album is still capable of pulling the listener into a blissful state, the darker tones that brood from it make sense because the narrative of the record is one born from a place of trauma and terror, as Ramic explains. “The Earth is a place that could—and should—be safe for all, but depending on the pure chance of one's place of birth, the personal relationship with the planet alters dramatically. During The Bosnian War in the 1990s, there were "safe areas" — UN-designated protected zones meant to offer safety for civilians. Instead, these "safe areas" became scenes of some of the worst human atrocities on European soil since World War II. The idea that a very small geographical location on planet earth had to be designated as "safe" for human existence is absurd enough; the fact that it turned out to be not safe at all is even more absurd.”

It’s this juxtaposed position that kicks off the 2020 music series for the duo; a year-long creative voyage that “attempts to explore the human existence and psyche from a variety of different angles.” The result is an album that despite being vast—17 tracks—manages to feel like a complete and coherent statement. Something to get lost in, as a whirlwind of chaos continues to unfurl in the outside world. Finding this balance between solace and disorder has ultimately been at the heart of this project for Ramic. “Much of this record was influenced by the personal anxiety of assessing my own existence, its high and low points thus far, and the limitation of my time left on planet earth. I needed to pour out all these feelings into music.”

Arms and Sleepers continue their journey through a turbulent 2020 with the 5th installment in their 6-part music series being released this year. The new full-length album, titled CORPUS DEI, will be out on Dec. 4 via Future Archive Recordings.

Arms and Sleepers is the electronic music duo Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic. Formed in Boston, USA in 2006, the group has amassed over 30 releases, nearly 2,000 live performances, and countless TV and Film music placements in their 15-year history. 2020 has been the group’s busiest year yet, and the upcoming new album CORPUS DEI looks to add another signature stamp in Arms and Sleepers’ diverse music catalog.

Written and produced throughout 2020 – while on US and European tours, unplanned quarantine in Latvia, and settling into a new home in Berlin – CORPUS DEI is a surreal musical journey that feels both free-spirited and highly tense. It is the culmination of a fragile, uncertain and difficult year, and a closing statement on an ambitious, multi-release conceptual project. CORPUS DEI is Arms and Sleepers’ fourth full-length album released in 2020 alone, which also saw the release of several EPs, standalone singles, and remixes. Each release has revolved around the idea of “self-destruction”, an eerily relevant topic that was conceived well before the pandemic-stricken year. Writes Ramic: “I started planning for this 6-part music release in 2019 as a way of dealing with and processing my own increasing existential obsession with mortality, meaning, and ultimate absurdity of life. I wanted each release to capture some broader, objective elements of human life as well as some more personal, subjective experiences. Little did I know that I would end up living in isolation in Latvia for nearly 4 months earlier this year. It was an incredibly bizarre period of my life, as it was—and continues to be—for much of the world.”

CORPUS DEI combines the varied sounds of Arms and Sleepers’ recent releases, merging elements of instrumental hip-hop, IDM, electronica, downtempo, and ambient music. The intricately textured beats and densely layered synths form a sonic palette that should be familiar to fans of Arms and Sleepers, but the static-induced, noisy and unsettling atmosphere of the album as a whole adds a new dimension to the group’s catalog. Experimenting more closely with sound design and focusing on the overall compositional flow, Arms and Sleepers manages to create a record that seems to—for better or for worse—capture the dreadful emotional weight of 2020. Writes Ramic: “The various song ideas for CORPUS DEI were written throughout 2020 in what seem like impossibly different contexts: a few days off on tour in Augusta, Georgia in warm southern weather in mid-February; a tiny hotel room in Odessa, Ukraine on the first day of a European tour; a strange 4 months in Riga, Latvia while stranded there in the midst of a pandemic; and a rejuvenating new chapter of my life in Berlin, Germany despite the continued uncertainty about the pandemic. This album feels like a collection of estranged fragments of my life this year – a year that has felt like an eternity.”

CORPUS DEI releases on Dec. 4 via Future Archive Recordings and will be accompanied by various special cinematic visualizers.
