It was a joy to play the warm up set at Optimo's New Year's Day party in The Berkeley Suite earlier this month. The night started at 8pm (until 4am...so a long night) and the room took a while to get busy so I felt it was completely acceptable to veer into the stranger atmospheric territories of my record collection. By half an hour or so in, people had started arriving and dancing so things pick up around halfway through but I still keep the tempo down for a leisurely build. Vlad Fisun's name might easily be treated as a synonym to word "music". He's one of the monolith figures in Ukraine's electronic music scene spinning records worldwide over 25 years (being first Ukrainian DJ to perform at Sziget festival, reaching the far away Burning Man festival and then, as the most distant point - Honolulu's most famous party place Manifest). Vlad is a founder of a formation and recently, a label, DJBuro.

Let the selection Vlad prepared for you tell you the rest - this mix is a vinyl set of old gems, bootlegs and stuff that is not easy to find. It's a disco with a twist: while being disco on a "front-end", if you listen closely, on the "back-end" you can spot breaks, electro-funk, scratch elements and much more. That destroys genre boundaries in the most natural way possible, so you can loose yourself in music.

"Laurence McAulay aka Lárus is a London based Glaswegian DJ, radio host and club promoter.

He runs the Vicious Creatures party series which over the last 11 years has seen him share the booth with the likes of Job Jobse, Ellen Allien, DJ Fett Burger, Intergalactic Gary + many many more. Learning his trade at the Sub Club in Glasgow where he was a resident for 5 years he is now based in London where he has played sets at, amongst others, Corsica Studios, Printworks, Rye Wax,Pickle Factory, The Cause, & brilliant corners. Outside London he has DJ’d at venues such as Pikes in Ibiza, Sisyphos in Berlin, Oath in Tokyo, Club 77 in Sydney, Revolver in Melbourne & Potato Head in Bali.

Away from the club he has hosted shows on Rinse FM, had guest appearances on the likes of HÖR, The Lot Radio, Red Light Radio & Rinse France and is currently a semi regular resident on Glasgow’s Clyde Built Radio as well as having mixes on platforms such as The Feel My Bicep blog, Stamp The Wax, Ransom Note, Craigie Knowes, Bordello A Parigi & ZeeZout."

Rob hosts a radio show called ‘Brain Food Radio’ on Kiss FM Dance Music Australia every Tuesday night from 10pm to 11:30pm AEST/AEDT. 
‘Brain Food Radio’ showcases thought-provoking electronic music and is curated for people who want more than just the hits and the big names.
'Brain Food Radio' has been on the Kiss airwaves since 2013.
