Ross Harper’s acclaimed recent LP, ‘The Dark Album’ has been supported by a wide range of international press, radio and leading DJs. ‘My Gift’ has been a highlight of several of Richie Hawtin’s sets whilst Charlotte de Witte called it “beautiful”. Sasha, Kölsch, Jennifer Cardini, Maceo Plex, John Digweed, and Skream alongside many others have also been praising the album. 

'The Dark Album' remixes feature handpicked artists Ross Harper personally holds in high regard. 

To put this in a framework, Harper was recently asked in an interview with The DJ Sessions, for his opinion of Ghost Producers and furthermore what we can expect when in the near future tracks are produced by AI? As a DJ, Harper’s answer was simple, it is his job to filter out tracks that do not have feeling, more specifically, Harper is listening for tracks that have heart and soul, in fact Harper’s monthly radio show has the name, “House & Techno w/ Heart & Soul”.

The artists Harper has invited to remix tracks from 'The Dark Album' are producers who have exhibited the anti-thesis of Ghost Producers and AI, they are special individuals who have something that cannot be mimicked, hidden, faked, they have something unique and different that makes them stand out from the chatter.

Harper’s DJ sets are free and boundless, and so this is what fans can expect to hear in the remixes, from rich ambient soundscapes, to driving epic arpeggiated leads, to hard, gritty machine beats, to beautiful textures and softness, all fixed in a diverse cross-range of genres with end results that are almost impossible to tie down and categorise.

In Volume 1 we hear from Cie, Nickon Faith and Roi.

Colonge’s Cie breaks in with a hybrid creation, taking Harper’s bleeps, squeaks and synth choir from 'Something New' and weaving them through intelligent syncopated hypnotic techno grooves, the result is an entrancing tapestry that draws the mind deeper and deeper into the patterns, until suddenly, it all ends.

Manchester’s Nickon Faith fearlessly takes on 'Humanistic Correction' and brings with him an entire intergalactic orchestra of sound. In Faith’s ‘Drifting' remix 'Humanistic Correction' becomes a multi-layered symphonic masterpiece. The first section is led by a wandering melody while contrastingly the second section gives way to a structured arppegio. Harper challenged Faith to develop the second section in a new version, and hence the ‘Epic' remix came to being, with the 'Epic Edit' being a consolidation of the beauty and intensity.

Heralding from Galicia’s coast, Fanzine’s Roi strikes out first with his 'Retro Future' breaks remix of 'The Power of Three', feel the raw power of Roi’s proximity to wild Atlantic ocean in his driving electro baseline that compliments perfectly against the soft, dreamy synths from Harper’s original. Not content Harper nudged Roi again, this time for a 4/4 remix, so, with a hint of something like an early disco classic but adorned with drones and squelchy melodic lines that would be more at home in Jabba The Hutt’s lair then Paradise Garage, the 'Cosmic Disco' remix came to be.

Sin Hilo finds, once again, a hidden treasure in the underworlds of the IDM, Vanadium reemerges from his cave and launches a project that will sound a lot in the coming years.

Vanadium leaves its mark in his, now new home, with a mini LP with 5 tracks and two remixes of electronic music without regards. 

Vanadium shows his rawest side against his most melodic on each track, it is, undoubtedly, a great discovery on our part that will be well received in the electronic world.

"UNAWD" opens the album, a melodic song with a jumping rhythm that completely introduces us into their world. Then "AWST" sits us down with its strong and dry hits, immersing us into the driest and most serious IDM of Sin Hilo, "CRWBAN" opens the doors to the Sun and the shine of the exquisite IDM that shows us throughout the album.

"HEDFAN" is definitely the most serious track on the album, a profoundly dark and glitchy for the lovers of deep and sensitive electronic music, "PRAWF" closes the album with a fun, hectic and completely broken track which makes a complete mini album of pure and deep emotions of what will, without a doubt, be a lasting project.

To finish rounding off the album, it includes two deluxe remixes, Inkipak lands in Sin Hilo to give shape to "UNAWD" giving it his own feeling and affection. And of course, we couldn't miss the opportunity to include one of our best artists from Sin Hilo.... Komatsu does his magic with "AWST" remix completely destroying the rhythms and letting us fly by his unique IDM. 

The project starts in Madrid but we have no doubt that it will be traveling all over Europe in no time... Vanadium has no limits!

In the decade that British-born producer, promoter and DJ Gav Whitehouse has called Melbourne home, he has become a driving force in shaping the city’s infamous electronic music scene, with his adopted home as is his inspiration and muse.

Gav invaded Australia in 2008, where his love affair with house and techno truly blossomed. Always pushing boundaries, it didn’t take him long to break into the close-knit scene. He commandeered One Six Ones’s notorious rooftop for three years with his Digital Sunset soirees of house, soulful house and disco with live vocalists. Always a pioneer, he even brought UK Garage legend DJ EZ over for a one-off gig back in 2015. With bold ideas and eclectic sets, the boy from the north of England quickly made a name for himself with weekly gigs at Melbourne’s best clubs including Circus, New Gurnica and Revolver running his own event , Frequency at Revolver for 3 years.

Gav has also become a regular on the Victorian festival circuit, warming up for Audio Jack at Maitreya, Playing the Killing Team/Eat the Beat stage at Babylon and the Mono Loco stage at Rainbow Serpent. He also added Carl Cox’s Pure festival to his impressive repertoire.

Gav’s weekly residency for elite House and Techno crew Eat the Beat at New Guernica Club has recently seen him signed as a full-time artist, catapulting an already illustrious career into even more gigs across Australia and overseas. 

Supporting acts such as the Martinez Brothers, Paco Osuna, Alan Fitpatrick , Whebba , Luigi Madonna and Adreas Campo he’s played alongside the Balearic best at Café Del Mar in Ibiza and on ADE in Amsterdam with more international tours set for the future.

Ten epic years as a producer have seen Gav’s tracks signed to labels such as Shodan Records , Hector Couto’s Roush, DJ W!ld’s Catwash Records, King Street Sounds of New York and 303 Lovers. His distinctive, dancefloor-ready cuts stem from House to Techno always experimenting with different drum patterns on the Roland tr8s and various hardware and software synths.

Mr. Funghi started out as a local DJ in Dortmund before he became a resident in one of the most established clubs in Innsbruck where he hosted his Room-on-Fire event series for more than 4 years.

After a hiatus and moving to Berlin he’s now back at the decks in the midnight jungle of germany‘s hedonistic capital including his new event series Acide Technotheka.

His sound ranges from dark wave, funky fast-forward beats to Nu-Disco and EBM.

Rob Zile's first EP was released in September 2009 on Artefekz Muzik.  Following this EP many doors were opened; from being asked to remix other artists to forging great relationships with other dj’s, producers and record labels from around the world.  It also gave him the opportunity to play his first international gig at the WMC Techno Marathon in Miami in 2010, sharing the bill with artists such as Perc, Spektre, Oliver Giacomotto and many more.

Rob hosts a radio show called ‘Brain Food Radio’ on Kiss FM Dance Music Australia every Tuesday night from 10pm to 11:30pm AEST/AEDT. 
‘Brain Food Radio’ showcases thought-provoking electronic music and is curated for people who want more than just the hits and the big names.
'Brain Food Radio' has been on the Kiss airwaves since 2013. 

In 2018, Rob took the next logical step and launched his own label 'Brain Food Records.'   @brainfoodrecords

Rob's productions have been supported by The Black Dog and Mike Humphries and they have received positive feedback by Hybrid, DJ 3000, David Meiser, DJ Pierre, Lucien Foort, DJ Hyperactive, King Unique and Colin Dale among others.  Rob has supported a list of international artists such as: DJ Hell, James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, Guy J, Skream, Artwork, DJ T, Guy Mantzur, Eelke Kleijn, Joe Brunning, DJ W!ld, Drumcomplex, Sebo K, Tim Engelhardt and more.
