Rock Flexible - König von Thule

This track has quite a story. The basic playback piano, synths and drums have been composed and pre-produced by OESJ (Ralf Wadephul + Peter Pasch) and sent to me to work out some guitars. The whole music was intended as a vocal track with a female singer. 

Before I really started to work with the song I played a bit with the core of the song, and made a whole new story out of it, adding guitar layers and also sung on it. Lacking lyrics I used the lyrics of 'Der König von Thule' Gretechen sung in Goethes "Faust" ...
Of course this version was never meant to be published and was just an 'Outtake' on my harddisk. Untill the other day, where I asked the OESJ guys for the permission to publish it as an kinda 'cover version' of the song ... :)

SPUTNIK ALIVE - OESJ ft. Katja E.

Sixty years ago, mankind's space adventure began.
Happy birthday, SPUTNIK!

When this song came to my ears as a first playback I knew that I only could add acoustic guitar to it. First, to keep it's sensitive feel, second to add a kind of acoustic contrast to the electronic set on it ... So what you hear now has developed over several transitions. I have already worked earlier with Katja, a classical and pop singer, so we asked her if she could imagine to write lyrics and sing on the song. The demo originally was titled 'sputnik'. Quite often Katja keeps the first impulse, studies the background and then she unfolds a story around the topic very well. It was a honor to work with her in this song. 
The composition and complete processing of this song was done by Ralf Wadephul, years back playing keyboards in the famous electronic group 'Tangerine Dream', so this song got it's fantastic sound from his production skills.
The Drums and Grooves were contributed by Peter Pasch, a well known studio drummer in the Berlin music scene. Ralf and Peter, both form the group OESJ.
I hope you enjoy this little tune as much as I do!

When Mirjam sung on my playback 'On my knees' -->  "https://soundcloud.com/mirjam-keijnemans/rock-flexible-and-mirjam-keijnemans" we agreed that it could be a nice idea to start with an collab-song together. Mirjam sent me a guitar track and one vocal track. Soon I laid out the background vocals by shifting parts of the original vocals. The song has no BPM because Mirjam played it free flowin' without click track. A job for a real drummer, so I asked Peter (the drummer of https://soundcloud.com/oesj) and he was so kind to play his excellent drums for this track. Then I added bass guitar and some guitar adlibs here and there ... that's it. We hope you like it and enjoy listening so much as we do :)

I decided to leave the beginning and also the general song structure. I stripped down the instrumental so that Anne's vocals came out more prominent. 
In the chorus I added a very hard guitar phrase as kind of counter part, a bit out of the key but still embedded in the song. I used just samples created from the original files except the Kick_1 + Snare (Arturia Drumbrute) and Kick_2 + Claps (Roland TR09)
