„Als ich das Licht der Welt erblickte...“ Mit diesen Worten beginnt die allererste Ausgabe des "Das haett es frueher nicht gegeben"-Podcasts, welche eben genau heute vor einem Jahr das Licht der Welt erblickte.

Wir werden ganz sicher nie das Gefühl vergessen, als unser Freund Manuel Scholze aka http://soundcloud.com/radiotherapie uns sein extra für uns aufgenommenes Set übersandte und wir es mit einem eigenen Logo versehen auf Soundcloud hochluden und mit anschauen konnten, wie immer mehr den Podcast, UNSEREN Podcast, anhörten und sich begeistern ließen. Und noch immer treibt es uns ein Grinsen aufs Gesicht, wenn wir uns unsere #01 anhören, die eben treffenderweise mit den Worten von Heinz Erhardt beginnt.

Und es ist keine Floskel, dass es uns schier sprachlos macht, wenn wir auf dieses Jahr unseres Podcasts zurückschauen. 24 großartige Künstler haben unvergessliche Sets aufgenommen, eine Schnapsidee wurde zu einer unserer erfolgreichsten Ausgaben und insgesamt wurde der gesamte Podcast auf SC rund 160.000 (!!!) mal angehört. Für uns aber mindestens ebenso großartig ist die Tatsache, dass der Podcast über iTunes, andere Podcastplayer und RSS mittlerweile auch über 16.000 Plays und 3000 Downloads zu verzeichnen hat – ganz ohne SocialMedia Umfeld. 

Unser Dank geht natürlich in erster Linie an die Künstler, denen wir dieses großartige Jahr zu verdanken haben. Es ist einfach immer wieder schön zu erleben, dass besonders viel Liebe und Sorgfalt in die Sets hineingesteckt wird, um gerade für uns etwas ganz Besonders zu „liefern“ – zumindest war das eine der häufigsten Rückmeldungen von den Interpreten. Und wir dürfen auch schon verraten, dass wir uns bereits auf die kommenden Wochen und Monate freuen, denn viele weitere Künstler haben schon ihre Zusage gegeben.

Vor allem aber danken wir EUCH! Euch Lesern und Hörern und Musikbegeisterten! Jeder einzelne von euch hat den Podcast zu dem was gemacht, was er nach eigentlich so kurzer Zeit schon ist: Eine feste Größe in der Szene der elektronischen Musik. Wir freuen uns über jeden Kommentar unter den Sets, auf facebook oder auf unserer Website. Ihr seid großartig und wir sind stolz auf solch eine „Fanbase“!

Nun aber genug der Worte – es ist Zeit für Geschenke, wie es sich für einen richtigen Geburtstag eben gehört. Geschenk Nummer 1 ist unser Special, an dem drei Künstler beteiligt waren. Bei den Dreien handelt es sich um unsere lieben Team-Mitglieder. Ohne diese Drei – das steht fest – hätten wir das Projekt nicht so weit voran treiben können, wie wir es nun geschafft haben. Die eigentliche Besonderheit ist aber, dass die drei es geschafft haben, quer durch die Republik über die Entfernungen hinweg gemeinsam ein Set aufzunehmen, das einerseits wie aus einem Guss wirkt, gleichzeitig aber auch drei ganz unterschiedliche Facetten aufweist, für die jeder und jede einzelne von den dreien verantwortlich ist. In ein paar Tagen werden wir dann das Rätsel lüften.

Geschenk Nummer 2 wird pünktlich am 1. Oktober als die eigentliche Geburtstagsausgabe erscheinen. Aufgenommen von einer ganz großartigen Künstlerin, der wir besonders freundschaftlich verbunden sind. Ein kleiner Hinweis: In letzter Zeit ist sie häufig mit einem Künstler anzutreffen, der ebenfalls bereits vor ein paar Monaten schon einen Beitrag zum Podcast geliefert hat.

홍대 상수도와 MI 에서 시작한 한국의 언더그라운드 클럽씬이 홍대 전역, 이태원, 강남은 물론 전국 대도시로 확산되면서 폭발적인 발전을 거듭한지도 거의 20년이 됐다. 이제는 세계적인 DJ들이 꼭 거쳐갈만큼 서울도 클러버들이 즐길수 있는 문화도시의 대열에 꼈다. 세계 여느 도시의 클럽발전사를 보면 점점 더 상업적으로 변모해가는 대형클럽형 유행 속에서 음악의 본질을 잃지 않는 양질의 놀거리는 도시의 아이콘으로 부상한다. 지난 20년 가까이 국내 클럽문화를 이끌어온 DJ 연준과 그의 크루들은 서울을 대표하는 클럽을 만들고자 Club MYSTIK에 모였다. 2011년 10월28일 오픈 예정인 MYSTIK에서는 국내에서 접할 수 없었던 음향과 비주얼 시스템은 몰론, 엄선된 Deep House, Tech House를 기반으로 한 정통 사운드를 접할 수 있다. 또 크루들의 세계적인 DJ들과의 협업을 통한 다양한 DJ 파티도 준비중이다.

The british musician, dj, producer and label owner has been around since the 1980’s, operating under countless aliases such as Planetary Assault Systems, The 7th Plain or L.B. Dub Corp just to name a few 🤯
Luke's 1997 album „Freek Funk“, as well the releases on his own label @mote-evolver have played such an important role in all of our lives and his ability to still deliver at this level after being in the game for so long, is something that inspires us and makes us look up to him 🙏

To relaunch his seminal imprint, Infrastructure New York, David Sumner aka Function presents his new 12", Green EP. Celebrating 27 years of Function releases this year and the label’s 25th anniversary, the label will serve as an outlet for his new material, reissues of out of print classics from Synewave, Sandwell District and Ostgut Ton (and of course, Infrastructure), as well as developing new artists and launching a long awaited Bandcamp page - exploring the annals of nearly three decades of the Function sound.
 
As a member of the Sandwell District collective, Function, from 2007 onward was instrumental in cultivating and ushering in a new sound of dark, cerebral hypnotica - forcing the hand of change in global techno. Green EP serves as a testament to this, further exploring these depths. The EP pays homage to the day when David arrived in Berlin with his green suitcase where his record “Isolation” on Sandwell District was released, hitting the ground running and spring boarding into an incredibly successful career, becoming a stalwart DJ/producer, after years as a struggling artist.
 
Green EP encapsulates the same raw power and hypnotic energy of his genre defining Sandwell District releases Isolation, Anticipation and Variance, updated with a modern flair. Subject f (Function) has clearly transcended, as expressed through the opening track “Initiation” arriving at his “New Designation”. On the b-side Function communicates his divine alignment through the broken beat, etheric “Aeternum (Meridian)”. Finally, Function closes Green EP with a live extraction of “Desire and Memory”, a brooding club stormer in contrast to the more experimental leanings of the original version, which appeared on Rrose’s label Eaux.
 
Next to releasing a new EP and restarting the label, an attached Bandcamp page and label webshop will be launched. These portals will in time see the release of previously out of stock releases as well as re-issues and unreleased Function material, next to new releases by other artists. No doubt fans will be excited!
 
One thing is clear: Function is back on track and more on form than ever!

Luke Slater - EE405 - Electronic Explorations (Warehouse Sessions 016)

For the last 25 years, Luke Slater has been a master in sound design. Throughout his career he’s operated under several different guises, with an extensive back catalogue that’s widely regarded as one of techno’s greatest. 

He started out in the early 90s releasing seminal works on labels like Peacefrog, and in 2006 he started putting out music via his own label Mote Evolver, yet his output hasn’t slowed down since then: the best example of this is probably last year’s killer 'Arc Angel' LP he released as Planetary Assault Systems via Ostgut Ton.

Slater is equally lauded as a DJ. Through our history he’s become something of a Farringdon staple, and his clinical precision has helped make his Room Two sets highly anticipated among the techno contingent of our family.

He reminded us why he’s become so integral to our space at his last appearance with us. Following on from Terry Francis and Black Asteroid’s bewildering live show, Slater stepped up to close out the room with a dramatic and transcendent 3-hour closing.

As we invite him to return to his adopted Room Two home this coming Saturday, we uncovered the recording from last year in anticipation.

Now an established force in contemporary Techno, Mike Bierbach, better known under his stage name Rødhåd is someone who has seriously put in the work. Having cut his teeth DJing as a relatively unnoted (but well loved by those in the know) local in Berlin for 10 years, one could argue that by the time success knocked on his door, he was more than ready for playing the international stage. It was during these 10 years of obscurity when he refined his craft to become the singular DJ he is now. 

Launching his party-series-turned-label Dystopian in 2009 was what truly tipped the ball over for Rødhåd. In a time where the Berlin scene was heavily oversaturated by fluffy, miscellaneous dance music, he & his peers set out to form a platform for real techno. The reception to this was raucous. 

Although he has lauded productions and remixes to his name, DJing is his true forte. Before abandoning his day job as a draftsman in construction “The Red” (as some call him due to his gingered, bearded appearance) was known for playing very long sets in Berlin’s most notorious hideaways. 

With an album, several EPs & remixes for a multitude of different artists under his belt, Rødhåd the producer has received equal praise as Rødhåd the DJ. Dystopian has hosted most of his releases, but in 2018 he founded a new label WSNWG that serves as a home for collaborative productions, excavated in sessions at his East-Berlin studio with his peers such as Lucy, Alex.Do, & Antigone.
