Rafael Anton Irisarri Megamix

Circassian-Turkish Producer Sine Buyuka debuts new solo project Sinemis with lush, graceful album ‘Dua’, gently combining the ancestral Sufi music of her homeland with sophisticated techno-inflected ambient.

Gazel is the first single taken off the album. "Most of the Dua album is created with organic sources of audio and acoustic instruments, lots of creative audio editing and soft synths. However, Gazel is the only track that has a vintage analogue modular analogue synth at its core, a Roland System 100m. I started improvising without a plan and recorded bits and pieces for fun. A couple of months later, after my surgery when I was homebound, I felt like visiting those recordings and decided to use one as a basis of a new track. It was a recording done in a single take, later adorned with ney recordings, vocal chops, and ambient soundscapes. I wanted to see how I could integrate two instruments belonging to two different musical cultures to create something new and perhaps a bit mystical, marrying different musical traditions. The name Gazel, which refers to an age-old improvised singing form that is sometimes accompanied by the ney (or ud or tanbur) in Turkish music is also a nod to the production process – my voice being my synth."

‘Dua’ was also mixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos (available on Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon) to capture the immersive experience of Sufi music.

Gazel

Sinemis - Gazel

The month of Saturnalia is upon us. So here is an aural accompaniment for decorating the tree, sipping Glühwein and being festive.
I'm angling towards choral and early music with this one.  So there is a certain focus on Medieval and Renaissance aesthetic. Both, the original surviving sacred and secular works reinterpreted by modern ensembles as well as pieces by the contemporary composers and recording artists inspired by early music form and techniques. Some folk and jazz deviations are also included to keep things fun.

The show is bookended by the recitation of the extract from Virgil's Eclogue 4 having to do with Saturnalia and his prediction of 'forthcoming birth and a new golden age'. The text is in Latin and was considered prophetic among people in the early Middle Ages as foretelling of the birth of Christ. I'm not at all religious, but such facts and conjectures are very fascinating.

New show by Giraffe Tapes is kicking in on Mutant Radio! In the first episode the guest is Hidekazu Imashige, aka Gallery Six, an artist and composer who is based in Miyoshi Hiroshima, Japan. His new album called "The Waves Wiped Memory Away" was released on "Giraffe Tapes" label. Gallery Six has been making sound sketches, mixing drone sounds mainly created from synthesizer and materials field-recorded when he goes wherever his heart leads.

Roel Funcken officially popped up on the scene in 2010, with his solo debut, titled Vade, out on Ad Noiseam. But fans of electronic music, and IDM in general, have been tracking this Dutch musician for over a decade prior, when, along with his brother, Don, the duo has released some of the genre defining music on labels such as Djak-Up-Bitch, Schematic, Sublight Records, Neo Ouija, n5MD , Arcola (Warp) as the one and only Funckarma. In 2009 the Funcken brothers kicked off their very own, digital-only, Funcken Industry imprint, which hosted a few of their other projects and offshoots, such as Shadow Huntaz, Scone, Quench, Automotive, and the latest from Roel's solo works. Roel continues to influence the evolution of music through numerous releases (Sapper Morton on Analogical Force, Semtinal Convex on Methlab and Prester Hynn on his own imprint to name a few) and active engagement in the community, with music festival curation, mixes on mixlr and soundcloud and weekly playlists on Soundcloud and spotify. Roel's music is advanced in sound design, often incorporating unique experimentation in electronic sound, with cut-up, twisted, atmospheric sonic soundscapes, leaving the cranium always begging for more. His ambient textures maintain a cinematic quality throughout, while his percussive arrangements retain a constantly mutating framework, always reconstructing its rhythm and structure, contradicting complex configurations and minimal design. It's always a pleasure to taste the latest treat from this aural engineer, and find the latest gem in his never-ending arsenal of sound.
