To Roll Or Revolve

This is a studio version of a piece that I performed at the Wandle Arts Festival on Saturday July 8th. 2023 The festival was organised by the Wandle Industrial Museum.
The field recordings were all recorded in Merton, near or by the River Wandle. Listen out for running water recorded in Wandle Park and the sound of rain falling into two watering cans. The track also features some electric mandolin playing by myself.

...continuing series of experiments with few devices, this time again using Soma Lab's Lyra-8 and Eventide's ModFactor, for latter I used Mission EP-25K expression pedal to help conjure some fabulous sonic textures...
...the track is mostly noise, sometimes harsh noise, but overall very beautiful...

This is a piece I wrote for inclusion in an April 2024 New Music Brighton concert at the Friends' Meeting House in Brighton. This performance (its premiere, no less!) was given by my good buddy Paul Dallaway and myself, and recorded by Roger Harmar.

From the programme notes:

"This electric guitar duet began life as something of an homage to the composer and multi- instrumentalist Reginald Smith Brindle, in particular the opening of his celebrated solo guitar work “El Polifemo De Oro” and his less well-known known guitar duet “The Pillars of Karnak”. Taking in Smith Brindle’s approach to both structure and harmony, I asked myself, “how would it sound if played by the British progressive rock group King Crimson?” Tonight’s performance may or may not answer that question."

My sincere thanks to Paul for putting in a huge amount of work in prepping this very tricky piece and for such a fantastic performance on the day, to Roger for his excellent recording, to New Music Brighton for the opportunity to contribute to a great concert, and to all my friends who turned out to listen.

Another sketch from an ever-so-slightly mysterious potential collaboration!

The Birds (sketch 3) - Arrival in Nephelococcygia

Finding north by Roger Harmar had its world premiere in Brighton on June 14th for a New Music Brighton's concert of graphic scores and played by Bela Emerson cello and Adam Bushell Vibrsphone and percussion. 


The composition invites performers to navigate the space
between place and sound. The emphasis is on *movement*
through a mythic landscape using the score as a map.


The performers map a route through the score interpreting each
element as they go. They can move in a linear fashion from left to
right or can explore other grid squares before moving on.

This a recording of that performance, recorded, mixed and mastered by Roger Harmar and many thanks to Bela and Adam for performing it so well.
