Velvet & Glass was born as is, without needing to be preconceived, devised or projected. It’s nothing more than the result of restlessness, a sort of duality that’s both antagonistic and complementary, unintentionally becoming an album that serves as an introduction to Binary Phaze.

His interest in ambient music and his own experiments with field recordings - always using his own analogue machines - are what led the Catalan producer to create dozens of tracks, without a clear project.

It was when it came to organising these tracks, looking for common threads between them, that Binary Phaze found a contrast of textures that ran through his tracks. Warm with cold, soft and pleasant with cutting, rough with smooth and piercing. Two types of textures and feelings, opposing yet also complementary. They turn their backs on each other throughout the record, only to embrace each other at - certain - moments. 

Two textures represented by velvet and glass. Two textures that are explored in Velvet & Glass, 50 minutes of enveloping atmospheres and meatless melodies. A summary of the emotions and feelings experienced by Binary Phaze at various moments during the three months of the creative process of putting together the record.

Aural is a latent sound vision, which manifests itself with the contrast of minimal geometric structures, apparently devoid of life, inserted in an arid nature without borders. A surreal mind journey into a dimension made up of elaborate acoustic elements and a deep electronics imbued with sound design.

Lorenzo Montanà is an Italian soundtrack composer, sound engineer and producer. Started in the 90s producing & arranging more than 40 albums across the electronic, ambient, IDM, jazz, classical and rock genres. He released his first solo album (Black Ivy, 2009) and the 5-CD Labyrinth collaboration series with Pete Namlook on the label FAX +49-69/450464. His work as soundtrack composer landed in the trailer of The Hunger Games 1 & 2 (which won an Award as the best original music trailer for 2012), Blade Runner 2049, Coriolanus and more. Lorenzo develops the most visual aspect of ambient, trying to translate real emotions and sensations through sounds and melodies.

Dronny Darko & G M Slater joins forces on this collaborative album that explores underground soundscapes

"The global climate repair project of 2036 was a success in that it united warring countries, ended droughts, and cooled the planet. Unfortunately our celebrations and achievements were short-lived, as we discovered the increasing toxicity in the perpetual rains it caused. Within two years we were all forced underground to escape certain extinction. My beautiful world was gone, and replaced with complete artificiality, the incessant roaring of air filtration systems, and daily fights for sustenance. For the young children growing up in this new environment this has all become normal, but for those like me who remember what used to be, life is no longer tolerable. I have tried to adjust for five years now, but I hear the ringing of the infinity bell more loudly each day, beckoning me back to the surface. I know that the journey will result in a slow withering death, but I am ready. It is now my time to rejoin what is left of the nature I so loved, and dissolve into the solitary landscape. Remember me.

Sebastian Mullaert's reinterpretation of Joseph S. Joyce's 2014 dub techno hit, 'Vedanta,' breathes new life into the track with a mesmerizingly minimalistic approach. Stripping away the rhythmic intensity of the original, Mullaert crafts an ambient rendition that delicately balances tranquility and introspection. Through washed-out chords and understated melodies that linger in the background, the remix takes on an ethereal quality, as if floating through a dreamscape.

Following Mullaert's rendition are four other remarkable remixes, each offering a distinct perspective on the original track. El Choop, Van Bonn, Federsen, and Paul 90 bring their unique sonic signatures to the table, further expanding the palette of 'Vedanta.' Additionally, Joseph S. Joyce himself contributes a live revisit, infusing the release with his creative energy. The remix compilation is set to be unveiled on June 28 through Joseph's Default Position record label.
