À l’angle de la 76e rue et la 1ere avenue, dans la vitrine éclairée d’un lobby d’immeuble, les concierges en costume noir veillent sur ceux qui dorment comme sur les noctambules qui s’apprêtent à sortir. Un taxi jaune stationne devant l’entrée d’un club. Des visages peints et couverts de paillettes s’embrassent sur le trottoir. À deux pas, des poubelles éventrées dégueulent sur le trottoir et les rats se régalent. Une sirène de police, les basses du rap qui passe, un rire évanescent... Au coin de la rue, là où s'évaporent les lumières des buildings, on distingue les faisceaux lumineux de deux lampes de poches entre les arbres de Central Park. Les chasseurs de rats commencent leur nuit de travail...

Hanging in the garage of Fire Station #6 in Livermore, California, there’s a small, pear-shaped light bulb. It is glowing right now.
This lightbulb has been glowing, with just a couple of momentary interruptions, for 113 years. You can see it glow in real time.
The bulb is a genuine heirloom from the dawn of electric illumination, built by one of its pioneers: Adolphe Chaillet.
