Vault Sessions #129 - Ø [Phase]

Onleash is the latest project from the Oslo-based artist Erik Spanne. His unique blend of hardcore techno laced with trap-phone chirps, pummelling kick drums and ultrasharp melodies has already become a secret weapon for some of the leading DJs and tastemakers like; VTSS, Anetha, SPFDJ, Shlomo, Juliana Huxtable and many more.

Together with the Norwegian artist FAKETHIAS he started MASSIVE GAIN a multidisciplinary project appearing in various forms, both as a record label and as the duo’s singular musical output. MASSIVE GAIN embodies techno as a vessel for experimentation, fusing its memetics with an insurgent perspective of club music.
Onleash is set to play at the next ISMUS XL party Alte Munze in March, while is also preparing a compilation release on MASSIVE GAIN featuring work from DJ Valentimes, FAKETHIAS, Truthspeaker, himself and more.

Jessie Granqvist joins for DifferentSound Podcast #180.

Jessie Granqvist [Hypnotic Woods/Under bron] Since her debute as a DJ in 2011 she has been resident in several undergroundclubs which formed her as an artist and person. With roots grounded in raves and open airs, she has gained notoriety for her style of trippy and meditative sounds merged together into a very danceable mix. With both technicality and an eclectic selection of records, she has the talent to truly build and build a long lasting vibe on every floor that she appears on. Since her start Jessie has been seen in almost every dj-booth in stockholm (where she is based) as well as clubs in Berlin, Amsterdam, Beijing etc.  2018 she played her first liveset at Uppsala artmuseum in a collab with artist Timothy Wilson. Jessie is one of the founders of collective Hypnotic Woods. They host events regularly at venues in Stockholm both over and underground.

This week's mix is provided by XÂRTE, whose journey started late 2020. He discovered his love for electronic music, mainly focusing on techno. Being inspired by a friend, he started to play himself, and he began to develop his mixing skills and style. These skills let him to perform at venues like BASIS, The Melkweg and Club3, for organizations like ALU and Ypnotika.

XÂRTE's style is characterized  by layering multiple tracks to combine hypnotic sounds and deep patterns, in order to create a completely new groove full, of emotions and abstract textures. He is inspired by the likes of Oscar Mulero, DVS1, Luigi Tozzi and many more. His goal is to create unity on the dance floor and let people drift off with the music to forget everything about the daily things in life.

For the Berlin based artist Phalcon, the value of music goes beyond the dimensions of rhythmic and harmonic organization. Music is his way of communicating: through the intersection of colors, grooves and rhythms he exposes his sensory perception, which defines his identity as an artist. Music can be uniquely capable of uncovering the aporias of temporality - and this is one of the most delightful paradoxes for him: the depths of its utterly consistency, restless pulse, rest and motion, pause and acceleration, tension and resolve... and the sum total that all parameter interactions might give.
