Hypnotic, peaceful electronic music. A slow fugue on the electric piano plays against an evolving harmonic backdrop. I have attempted to capture musically those rare instances when the storm dies, and the sea is as still as glass.

This tone poem attempts to musically describe a time when my family and I were wild camping at the Black Loch in the Galloway forest. The storm came on suddenly and blew itself it to a very strange calm just as suddenly. I have used various contrapuntal techniques to attempt to describe this.

Melancholic, dark music. A stormy classical composition for string orchestra. This was inspired while on the Isle of Arran, walking along the beach on a very dark and stormy afternoon in Midwinter. This piece features various contrapuntal techniques to build the sound of the tempest I have attempted to depict in this Scottish tone poem.

“Barely there” music for piano. I wanted to strip melody and harmony down to their bones for this one. This give more importance to the places in the music without sound.  As ever though the melody still doubles back on itself to give a fugal texture. A dark and mysterious sounding sonatina


A study in shadow and light

I love playing around with synths. This time I wanted to create monochromatic textures. I thought these sounds had an ethereal silvery sound, perfectly suited to the moonlight at midnight in Scotland. No fugues this time, just a simple melody with gradually increasing contrapuntal harmonies underneath.
