Handing Out Stones

Biru Bee and Marc Hofweber of Round Table Knights know good house music. They’re beat-breathers, crowd-whisperers, and along with Benfay in the studio flex a savant-like knowledge of electronic’s inner workings. Their latest four track EP, Secret Place, out via HAKT Recordings, distills their full-bodied sound down to its carbonated skeleton.

The title track “Secret Place” is a slow-burning constellation of twinkling synths and pulsing beats, plateauing halfway through its six minutes with vocals reminiscent of Little Dragon’s lead seductress Yukimi Nagano. “Coconut Bread” loops like the far off drumbeats of a tribal ceremony with a sparseness that envelops and transports. The anthemic “Spasdo” dips into a darker industrial realm, closing the three-track with rousing dance-floor manipulation.

Filling the need “Spasdo” creates for one more drop, Round Table Knights are following the EP with a remix of “Coconut Bread” by fellow house DJ Fantastic Man. The Australian producer incorporates an ephemeral, borderline downtempo interpretation of the track that draws its cosmic riffs into the foreground. Secret Place follows Round Table Knights’ years of touring clubs all over the world, dropping explosive tracks on tracks that blow up the blogosphere and the club.

Ghetto influenced club music from the older generation duo.

As we love music from all decades, and the 90’s vibes always have a place in our heart, it’s no wonder TLP aka Too Late Productions make a return to Top Billin with new ep full of proper ghetto cuts. TLP aka Manuel and Tom are 2 veteran producers who have had their hands in dance and bass since mid-nineties, when Manuel released true 90's ghetto club music, hardcore and acid as Energy Flash in 1992.
 
The catch again in this release is simple: honest and real club music from 2 techno veterans. The beats are tough, bass is booming, vocals are cut-up and it sounds fresh now as it would have back in the days of cheap studio hardware. These are tracks from producers who have matured alongside dance music and still keep pumping out the real DJ tunes.

We’re also happy to include a remix from the great Austrian producers Round Table Knights, who have been somewhat quiet for a while, and this is one dope comeback on the remix tip. We’re keeping it club as always, for your pleasure.

Too Late Productions - Mando (Round Table Knights Remix)

DJs, producers, selectors & club owners — all those terms pertain to Round Table Knights, the eclectic and highly skilled duo of Biru Bee and Hove. Debuting in 2002, they spent the next few years building their name with a series of prodigious DJ-Sets. It was in the second half of the decade tho, that a couple of esteemed releases — especially the monumental track Calypso — and the highly appreciated full-length album ‘Say What?!’ took the pair to another level. Over the past six years, the duo has been continuously touring across Europe, Asia, Australia, the US and Brazil to some respected venues and festivals such as Panorama Bar, Sónar, Igloofest or Creamfields, charming sweet dancefloors with ease. In their hometown Bern, the two can still be found frequently behind the decks of Club Bonsoir. A Venue, which the duo decided to open along the way and where they invite regularly some of the DJ circuit’s brightest up-and-comers. 

Despite all the years in the business and all those projects, the unresting duo doesn’t lose any of it’s creativity, dedication and will, to bring out great music. Hove’s young yet cherished Label ‘Lights of other Days’ and Birus more recent project Monumental Men alongside Mel Mercury are the latest two examples therefor.

For this Episode of the Series, the duo delivers an hour of thoughtfully selected tracks, beautifully mixed together for your enjoyment.

DJs, producers, selectors — all these terms pertain to Round Table Knights, the eclectic, highly skilled duo of Biru Bee and Marc Hofweber, so why don’t we just call them artists? Hailing from Switzerland, these warriors against the mundane have fought hard in the realm of house music to keep things fresh and support the new in their productions and DJ sets, as well as at their venue, Club Bonsoir. They present the tried and true anew while searching for the untested. 

Beginning with a taste in hip-hop, jazz, and electro, Biru and Marc have since paid their dues in the record bins and diversified their mixing palette even further. A deep knowledge spread across years and genres has brought them across the globe to respected venues and festivals such as Panorama Bar, Sónar, Igloofest, and Creamfields. These crowd-whisperers mix for the body and the mind, deftly juxtaposing the cutting-edge and the classic, always locked in the groove. 

Meanwhile, their production style has been more or less refined to the realm of house, with a clear inflection of all those other styles they so love. Their tracks bump with an unpretentious experimentalism, devoid of obvious weirdness and bursting with musicality. Say What?!, their debut album released on Made To Play Records, set a high standard that they’ve been chipping away at with a number of killer singles and EPs dropped on an international range of discerning labels.

Even with such a broad base of experience, Round Table Knights remain wholly un-jaded and still have a long road to travel. Equipped with sharp ears, rich knowledge, and a distinctive catalogue of work, it’s clear that they’ll always move forward and never lose the crowd along the way.
