[SCOM015] Cristoph - Delusions (Original Mix) Snippet

Here we have our BIG cat's favourite artists remixing his best tracks. For Part 1 we have three hot producers: Andre Lodemann, Bontan and Harry Romero doing their personal interpretation of "Just Nin" and "1, 2, 3... Fire!". The first remix of the package comes from Germany Andre Lodemann and he delivers an amazing melodic techno work from one of Coyu's most personal cuts, not an easy thing to do. Bontan and Harry Romero do their job with "1, 2, 3... Fire!". The english producer comes up with a bass focused tune that will literally break all dancefloors with its jackin' grooves while the american offers a much darker production with some sombre bass chords. This is just the first part from what is going to be a very successful remix series. Trust the kitties!

We love how Spain is growing in terms of electronic techno production. No doubt that big artists like Edu Imbernon and Los Suruba are responsible of this. Here we have an original cut named Brutus, a great melodic techno weapon made for synthesiser lovers. The remix is from Audiojack, creators of the anthem 'Machine Code', they came out with a profound remix that maintains the spirit of the original but with a much more focus on the beats. Rising stars Pentatones, justly lauded for their distinctive blend of oblique pop, jazz-inflected electronica and languorous torch songs, receive the full Steve Bug treatment on Poker Flat's latest transmission: a meeting of minds that produces an utterly seductive dancefloor anthem. The original version of 'Karma Game' appears on the Pentatones album "Ouroboros" which will be released early 2015.

Distilling the original's haunting noir pop into a deep techno groove, Bug suspends tinkling chimes and tuned woodblocks around a gritty bass stab. A choir of siren voices follow, hauntingly layered as the tension builds and the riff tightens its grip on synapse and sinew alike. But all this is merely a prelude to the introduction of Delhia de France's vocals: a heartstring-pulling foil to Bug's intense repetitions, creating a heady blend that is deeply involving and instantly memorable.

An instrumental version gives harder-leaning DJs the chance to focus on the hypnotic riff and crisp, percussive touches that comprise the trademark Steve Bug sound, topping off a rich and unforgettable package.

Not many labels established in the 00s have managed to achieve consistent progress without deviating from their roots. Even less labels have accomplished creating a true brand with a unique aesthetic of sound and artwork that are loved and respected by DJs and producers around the globe.

Sender Records is one of those labels. As per its penchant for cyberdelic enigmas, Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic outpost is building a core of secretive producers. After closing out 2014 with a record from unknown newcomer Crystal Bandito, the label will return in 2015 with an offering from semi-anonymous beatmaker Aden. The tracks on Tanz, which is the German word for "dance", are hewn from bouncing drums, vocal yelps, glittering keys, and a few functional white noise-infused breakdowns that pack a solid dose of energy and spirit. "Tanz 1 – Lieb" is a gentle intermission from the EP’s intense vitality, with warm and soft pads that lay the foundation for blunted percussion. From rigid pumpers to soothing textures, the Tanz EP contains a range of moods to fuel human bodies on the virtual dance floors of a digital future.

'Sub Conscious' was originally conceived as the exclusive track for Erol Alkan's 'FabricLive 77' mix, which was released to major critical acclaim back in August. A highlight track within the mix, 'Sub Conscious' has now been remixed by Tin Man and new Phantasy signing Kamera. 

Kamera's rich sonic space was part born in rural Yorkshire and eventually came to fruition in the wintry Majorca sunshine, his soundinfluenced by artists such as Sunn o))), Fugazi, Autechre and Sabres of Paradise. Kamera takes the track's acidic origins and threatens to overpower with layers of stunning feedback that drag the listener in further still. They’re beat-breathers, crowd-whisperers, and along with Benfay in the studio flex a savant-like knowledge of electronic’s inner workings. Their latest four track EP, Secret Place, out via HAKT Recordings, distills their full-bodied sound down to its carbonated skeleton.

The title track “Secret Place” is a slow-burning constellation of twinkling synths and pulsing beats, plateauing halfway through its six minutes with vocals reminiscent of Little Dragon’s lead seductress Yukimi Nagano. “Coconut Bread” loops like the far off drumbeats of a tribal ceremony with a sparseness that envelops and transports. The anthemic “Spasdo” dips into a darker industrial realm, closing the three-track with rousing dance-floor manipulation.

Filling the need “Spasdo” creates for one more drop, Round Table Knights are following the EP with a remix of “Coconut Bread” by fellow house DJ Fantastic Man. The Australian producer incorporates an ephemeral, borderline downtempo interpretation of the track that draws its cosmic riffs into the foreground. Secret Place follows Round Table Knights’ years of touring clubs all over the world, dropping explosive tracks on tracks that blow up the blogosphere and the club.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate DIRTYBIRD's 10 year anniversary than by releasing 14 great tracks that I fully support. There’s no fluff in here. Everyone from our amazing talent pool has delivered their A game material. And l have also added a few great new names to the family. 

It’s hard to believe that this little project started in my bedroom in the Lower Haight, San Francisco 10 years ago. I can distinctly remember hand stamping vinyl promos at home with my friend Fernando and trying to figure out the best way to mail them to Europe. I remember the very first guy to ever call me back about our music was Edgar Dirksen in Frankfurt, Germany, who was working at a now defunct distributor called Neuton. This was the only place that would agree to sell our records back in 2005 and I still thank him for taking the chance on us. 

There have been many many people involved since the beginning. Special thanks to all who have helped me run the shop at different times such as my wife Aundy, Mike Bosley, Christian Martin, Adam Carter, Sharen Norden, Bryan James, Luke Williams, Jonathan McDonald, Alastair Duncan and Stacey Gamble. Of course I couldn’t have done it without my good friend and the amazing music producer, Justin Martin, who helped shape our sound and also really define what it means to be part of DIRTYBIRD. 

A lot has happened in the music industry over the last 10 years but I like to think we have stayed consistent and managed to enjoy the ride. DJs, producers, selectors — all these terms pertain to Round Table Knights, the eclectic, highly skilled duo of Biru Bee and Marc Hofweber, so why don’t we just call them artists? Hailing from Switzerland, these warriors against the mundane have fought hard in the realm of house music to keep things fresh and support the new in their productions and DJ sets, as well as at their venue, Club Bonsoir. They present the tried and true anew while searching for the untested. 

Beginning with a taste in hip-hop, jazz, and electro, Biru and Marc have since paid their dues in the record bins and diversified their mixing palette even further. A deep knowledge spread across years and genres has brought them across the globe to respected venues and festivals such as Panorama Bar, Sónar, Igloofest, and Creamfields. These crowd-whisperers mix for the body and the mind, deftly juxtaposing the cutting-edge and the classic, always locked in the groove. 

Meanwhile, their production style has been more or less refined to the realm of house, with a clear inflection of all those other styles they so love. Their tracks bump with an unpretentious experimentalism, devoid of obvious weirdness and bursting with musicality. Say What?!, their debut album released on Made To Play Records, set a high standard that they’ve been chipping away at with a number of killer singles and EPs dropped on an international range of discerning labels.

Even with such a broad base of experience, Round Table Knights remain wholly un-jaded and still have a long road to travel. Equipped with sharp ears, rich knowledge, and a distinctive catalogue of work, it’s clear that they’ll always move forward and never lose the crowd along the way.
