Santa Sledge

This is the story of Seagrave Tiller Hook and ladder 5211 who served with the Glencove Volunteers fire fighters  in Glencove, Long Island, new York from 1987 until 2011. when she finished service she was  bought by an Irish man called Liam Moore who has a passion for Fire Brigade and has quite a collection. He transported her from America to Ireland and this song tells the true story, or maybe a part of the tale of her travels from Glencove and her arrival here in Dublin. she is 56 foot long, 30tonne and has a 100f foot ladder, driven by a V8 engine and it was my pleasure to ride in her for a few hours with Liam.  Liam brings her to charity events and exhibitions to show her off and spend most of his time underneath or on top working on her. here is a youtube link to her arriving in Ireland, we will be putting a  youtube video for the song together in due course .

The story starts in  Glen Cove, long Island USA 
Ladder  5211 starts up  for her last day 
All the boys from the volunteers 
Could have filled up the water tanks with tears,  
They didn’t want to see her go away 
But they knew she had done her stint and that she couldn’t stay 
So they gave her a big send off and sent her on here way 
flashing lights and sirens blazing 
they all said their good bye that night
from the Station to the docks there wasn’t one dry eye in sight 

Chorus 
Oh Liam Moore’s fire Brigade is the best you’ve ever seen 
She’s 50 foot from front to back and he keeps her very clean 
She came all the way from Glen Cove City in the USA 
Now she’s parked in Liam Mores driveway and she’s here to stay

She was loaded up on a ship bound for Dublin IreLand 
Where Liam moore agus Laim Beag had everything in hand 
They couldn’t  hold in the  excitement 
when the ship docked at Dublin Keys 
And when the dockers took her off the ship they  both got weak at the knees

They drove her home via  pears street past Tara street fire station 
Where all the boys from the fire brigade  gave her a standing ovation 
They drive up O Connell street 
and past the GPO  
With the sirens on and flashing Lights it’s the only way to go .

All the neighbour on the road  were excited to see her arrive 
Liam knocked down half the house trying to get her in the drive 
And Annies from number 10  
Said Liam lock hard try that again 
He’s never going to get her in the drive

They eventually inched that big yoke in 
To a very small  tight space 
And when they turned the engine off see  the grin on Liam moors face

Hello! Thanks for stopping by.  I write songs in reaction to life, quite often my own, or the lives of those around me.  Sometimes my song tells me what I'm thinking before I've even realised myself.  
I hope there is something here that resonates with you, I'd be really delighted to hear your comments.  
I started writing and playing again in March 2015 after a break of about 20 years having realised that life is short and I'd better crack on! I self released my 9 track CD 'Your Life' in 2017 and have since written many songs which will eventually end up on a 2nd 'album'!  I’ve had a couple of radio plays on BBC Introducing and played at a few local singers nights, but I’m really blown away by this Soundcloud community,  there’s a treasure trove of real music on here and the support is really appreciated.  
March 2021 update I've been teaching myself keyboard and have found it an inspiration for song writing and so my more recent tracks are written and performed with the piano keyboard.  
First memory of being captured by Songwriting was sitting behind a sofa aged 10 at a party and discovering Carol King’s Tapestry and a turntable. Teenage years dominated by an obsession with David Bowie, his word craft, imagery, story telling and his example of being able to constantly reinvent himself and not be pigeonholed. 
All tracks are my own compositions and performances except extra rhythm guitar and percussion on ‘Doing Time’ which was Carl Hetherington. 
Most of the images I have used are my own original artwork.  I now have an Instagram page where I’ll be posting my art at rowenaartandmusic
