It's about time again, our eighth compilation finally sees the light of day. It is peppered with wonderful pearls from the most diverse styles of the downtempo universe and, as always, is intended to reflect the diversity of our favorite genre.

Again, we tried to find the right mix between friends who have been with us for a long time and have been shaping the downtempo scene for years, paired with a large number of newcomers who convinced us with their sound quality and approach to production.

The compilation was mastered by our engineer of trust Haunted Water and the signature artwork was contributed as always by Kilian Van De Water. Enjoy listening.

"Nine Streets" takes a deep, dark turn with some beautiful synth and pad work laid nicely over the top. Berlin's @ueberhaupt_ausserdem provide a deep and powerful remix of "1984", definitely not lacking in attitude

Wonderwheel is proud to present is the second single from El Buho's brand new collaborative album 'Ramas", co-produced with some of his favorite artists, friends and family around the world. This single features up and coming Chilean producer DJ Raff who has been making waves in Latin America and Europe with his DJ Sets and diverse production. "Resiliencia" is a bouncey, deep tune for the dancefloor with ghostly cut up vocals, and a bumping earworm off a bassline. The "Ramas" 2xLP is out worldwide on April 27th.

"Ramas" (branches in Spanish) is El Búho’s third album of original material and stands for a celebration of the art of collaboration. Featuring 19 collaborations with artists from 12 countries, the album was born organically out of collaborations, mutual appreciation or a desire to experiment and try something new. 

Some of the tracks were started in person, such as "Sky City", born out of a spaghetti-western jam in Thornato’s Queens studio or "Gaviota" inspired by the the seagulls of Brighton following a shared show with Rumbo Tumba in the city. Meanwhile others such as "Elefta" with Hungarian producer Stas or "Kuuma" a track made with Finnish multi-instrumentalist QOSQI were created over long-distance with the producers never actually meeting face to face. The album also contains tracks from long-term friends and collaborators like Chancha Via Circuito, Barda and Wonderwheel head-honcho Nickodemus. 

Musically the album references the blend of Latin American traditional music with original electronic music on tracks such as "Resiliencia" with legendary Chilean producer DJ Raff, an homage to the recent protest movement in Chile, or "Absolut," a track sculpted from an unfinished melodic idea by Argentine electro-folk trio Tremor. Meanwhile songs like "Nevar" and "Kif Kif Kuf Kuf" with Didacte and Kraut, both part of the Shika Shika collective, take El Búho’s sound in a new direction, embracing a more melodic or impactful and rhythmic electronica. 

At its heart of "Ramas" was Perkins’ desire to challenge himself creatively, forcing him to see his own ideas and production style from a different angle or see ideas started in one direction come back completely transformed by the collaborator. The result is at once surprising and diverse but El Búho’s signature sound and aesthetic is the thread that runs through all of the tracks, the trunk to each branch. 

Carrying on the spirit of collaboration, El Búho made an open call for collaborations with dancers & choreographers in his community. Overwhelmed by the response, the album is accompanied by 18 original choreographies by dancers and dance groups from 12 different countries, from Mexico to Taiwan, South Africa or the Galapagos Islands. Each chose the track that most inspired them and shot a video of their dance in a unique and beautiful natural location, in doing so creating yet more ramas or branches for the project.

Each year Sol Selectas embarks on a musical journey that collects tracks together from all four corners of the globe, and this year it includes music from more than 20 different countries.

Featuring on this year's compilation is a selection of new music from label favourites like Namito, Derûn and label owner Sabo, alongside imprint debuts from talents such as Ayala (IT), The Oddness, Nebula (AR) and MoM.

The journey embarks on the long roads of meditative chill out that lead to the blissful atmosphere of vibrant house with afro grooves of mixed tempos. Also taking in the desert vibes of tribal deep house and organic tech, this spiritual release links mind, body, and soul.

This is the fifth edition of Summer Sol with each of its predecessors achieving the coveted No.1 spot in Beatport's sales chart, and it is expected that this latest compilation will be equally popular.

Summer Sol is released on the day of the Summer Solstice to mark a celebration of the year's longest day of sunshine. The compilation is a celebration of world culture, and what makes us all different, as no matter gender, skin colour or social background… Sol Selectas motto, is that we are all equal under the light of the sun.
