For those that have followed the scene for a while, or have delved into the many varied branches of DnB history, the name Shodan is up there with some of the greats. Alongside DJ Phantasy, he penned some of the seminal hits that continue to destroy dancefloors over a decade on and it is with great honour that we welcome him into the CLLCTV!

Having taken an extended sabbatical, Shodan returns with a spectacular single that fuses his keen ability to construct basslines with a smooth liquid vibe.

"Turn & Leave" is an instant classic. A stripped down, slow start quickly gathers momentum until the drop is delivered with funk in abundance. The sultry female vocals make this one for all seasons and round the track off perfectly.

"Inside" shows the more introspective side to Shodan's production, with a deep and melodic piano working as the perfect accompaniment to a delicious concoction of beats, bass and vocals.

Counterpoint (since 2013) is a Drum & Bass label and collective from Porto, Portugal. Our focus on the deep sound has led us to develop an introspective and intimate approach to the sound of Drum & Bass, and all 160+ BPM Bass Music.

Last August, we mentioned Laurens Vanbrabant (Lavance) as “one of the most serious contenders for breakthrough artist of the year”. His single – Suspect/Glaucus through Counter X Culture (CXC) was a huge success, and proved our predictions correct. He now returns to the label as the first artist to graduate from our up & coming release series – CXC - to our official main output.

His array of styles, flexible creative mind, and relentless work ethic is in full display throughout his new Totem EP. Travelling through styles, while ignoring conventions, he worked through the past year to deliver four tracks which display the full range of his sound. And this hasn’t been a one-man job, as the EP features collaborations with two artist who have been delivering some great music in the last couple of months – Scepticz and Klinical.

Totem has all the ingredients to be one of our standout releases of the year, having all being inflicting damage on dancefloors worldwide.

Symmetry are kicking off the summer vibes with a new Various Artist album " Summetry", following their recent EP from DSP and double sided single from KonSoul. Focusing on musical, deep and liquid DnB flavours for this release, tracks were handpicked to encapsulate the spirit of the season.

 Digging out some old equipment and combining this with new outboard studio toys Got A Feelin’ was created with a minimal but big sounding approach. Giant wobble bass and grinding 808’s keep this stepper moving through the sub switches and vocal stings. 
Sesame Seeds pays homage to the famous jungle break heard on countless records but utilising many of the unused and unheard variations of the original breakbeat. Starting from scratch combining new edits and patterns, this subby Jungle roller has a reminiscent sound, but with a sonic twist keeping things fresh

‘Shoreless’ opens with long, bending synth lines akin to the waves of the ocean and an air of something huge, dark and mysterious on the horizon before dropping into snappy breaks and pensive bass notes. As the track builds in density the vast space is swallowed by something colossal, like cargo mega-ships passing in the night. This is one of those tracks that encapsulates something dark without the need to be overly hard. Exquisite!
 
‘Rosan’ featuring Sixkill finds these producers again in a pensive space but this time we are bathed in musical rays of light that illuminate the soul. This track was named after Geeks baby niece who was born the same week they made this. Deep, soulful, rolling and deeply personal.

Nami - Sniper

Next up on Intrigue Music is an EP from Bristol based Cybin. Now veterans of the drum & bass scene, Cybin have been producing and DJing for over 20 years. Taking influences from dub, jungle, oldskool and minimal drum & bass, Cybin’s sound ranges from break driven jungle rollers to smoother liquid vibes. 

Cybin are the duo behind Lockdown Recordings, which has built a solid reputation over the last decade for nurturing and bringing through new talent to the forefront of drum & bass.

The Shinobi EP has it all, from the deep and deadly title track through to the old skool inspired 'Be Strong' to round things off. A stellar piece of work supported by key tastemakers across the scene.
