Like every other English teenager living within 150 miles of London or Manchester, Chris Duckenfield was significantly affected by the late ’80s acid-house craze. After bopping about at Sheffield’s Jive Turkey parties, Duckenfield bought himself a pair of Technics and began to put together a set. Sheffield’s vibrant illegal party scene at the end of the eighties introduced Chris to a different style of music and DJing altogether; he was hooked.

With a swathe of productions and a label under his belt and a great pedigree as a DJ to match his production skills, we are delighted to have him back in the booth at Subculture, and, as a true brother in arms it’s also very fitting for him to be here again as we celebrate 20 Years of Subculture.

In true gentleman style, as a treat for Harri & Domenic, ahead of his return to the Subbie, he recorded this exclusive 20 years of Subculture mix for your listening pleasure.

I was worried I wouldn’t get this done due to gig commitments in South America, but Lost Beach Club in Montañita, Ecuador went out of their way to open up their back room (or “the cave” as they call it) so I could finish the mix. Huge thanks to them as well as all the people who were kind enough to share music with me for this one: Spencer (always), Cratebug, Armand, Ben UFO, Geroge Fitz, Mad Paddy who crashed in our villa in Ibiza, Palms Trax, Jonnie Wilkes and of course Martin Rubadub (also as always).

It's a kind of Tweak-A-Holic 4.5 meets Mastermix 2015 (as I never managed to get tweak #5 done this year, sorry) but it also features a load of the tracks that have been more prominent in my sets this year that a load of people have been asking about, as well as a couple of forthcoming, unreleased Numbers tunes.

The recording includes some surface noise, at few needle skips and more than a few dynamic discrepancies between transitions due to the fact I am attempting to mix 3 decades worth of music and technological mastering advances into 2 hours worth of music.

As a DJ, Beato is spinning into prosperous future as well, playing at the worlds clubs and festivals alike. His Podcast is a live recording from a night in Cologne somewhere late 2015 and has the signature Beato vibe all over it.
