James Clements, otherwise known as ASC is the man behind On the 5th Day podcast #51 and this, 5th Day friends, is something really really special!

If you’re familiar with ASC then simply seeing the name will most likely get your heart racing, as you’ll have a fairly good idea of what’s in store. Here is a madly talented artist who perfectly personifies On the 5th Day – with an undeniable talent for capturing and communicating feeling through his music, injecting a multitude of heart and soul into an everlasting stream of consistently beautiful tracks across ambient, techno and beyond for near on 20 years. Yeh, that pretty much does it for us!

Producing since 1997, with his earlier musical undertakings focused on drum’n’bass (for which he was a prolific producer for over a decade), ASC’s sound took a more ambient and experimental direction in the late 2000s, at which point he took a strong following of dedicated, open-minded admirers of the Clements originality with him, all hungry to see what would follow. What was to follow was some of the most original and impactful music to circulate the electronic world, melding together ASC’s earlier cross-genre musical influences as well as his ongoing inspirations, the sci-fi world included.

The launch of ASC’s Auxiliary label in 2010, intended as a blue print for quality deep electronic music (soon after growing a few sub-labels) went onto become a pioneering platform for his sound, with Sam KDC bought on board to help bring the boundary pushing vision of the label to life. Today, the imprint does everything it says on the tin - providing an abundance of quality deep vibes to lock you in, with its latest release being a collection of sequences programmed, performed and recorded live by the man himself.

If ambient is your thing, then ASC is 100% your man! Naturally drawn towards emotional, atmospheric sounds, ASC’s outputs in this field – including 7 stunning releases on the renowned Silent Season label – are scintillating and alluring, so much so that some of this music led him to work on both film and video game scores.

The musical journey ASC has crafted for us here, largely formed of brand new, unheard material, is the perfect trip showcasing the heavier side of his sound, whilst still encompassing the more emotional, atmospheric techno he's known for. This is another super special addition to the stream and one we’ll wholeheartedly treasure for a long time to come. Thank you ASC!

No início a música era ritmo. Sabor primitivo percussivo temperado com ingenuidade harmónica a que se foram juntando uma enorme complexidade de timbres e melodias. Depois de se apaixonar pelas sonoridades naturais do seu meio ambiente, pelas ondas dos mares, pelas tempestades, pelos chamamentos animais e até pelos silêncios, o ser humano apaixonou-se por si próprio e pela manipulação da sua voz, tornando-se, também ele, um instrumento musical primordial. Ali, naquele instante, aquilo a que hoje chamamos música passou a ser um veículo de expressividade e comunicação emocional, um movimento enraizado na linguagem, nos ritos e na dança. Avançamos alguns milhões de anos e descobrimos que esse veículo se expandiu exponencialmente e se ramificou em submovimentos. O Techno é um deles. Nascido no final dos anos 80 em parte incerta, mas batizado em Detroit, foi sendo moldado com base em filosofias importantes de experimentação, inovação, criatividade, ritmo, textura, melodia, manipulação e até de expressividade associativa, política e foi/é força importante na integração e luta pela igualdade de direitos. De estética heterogénea e maleável, o Techno conhece muitas máscaras e muitas reinterpretações estéticas, sem nunca ter sido descoberto limite ou horizonte. O Techno de hoje honra as suas origens e projeta-se no futuro, sabendo sempre que o agora é tudo.
Enkō é, acima de tudo, um amante de música. Como dj representa um salto para o reino mais hipnótico do Techno, com texturas densas e ritmos complexos. Ao deixar influenciar-se pelo vortex musical britânico e pelas paisagens electrónicas italiana e escandinava, Enkō faz música que é ao mesmo tempo mental e física.
Gravado em direto num evento com selo da promotora OBRΔ, a qual tanto admiramos e que temos vindo a acompanhar já há algum tempo, partilhamos aqui esta viagem para vossa apreciação, capítulo primeiro da nossa Floating Layers Radio. Desfrutem.

FLR02 - Julie Ann

Floating Machine é um projeto de António Lourenço. Nascido em Coimbra - Portugal. Desde muito jovem sentiu-se apaixonado pela música. Interessado em tocar muitos instrumentos como guitarra, piano ou saxofone e fazer parte de alguns projetos experimentais.
Mais tarde, influenciado pela música electrónica, iniciou a sua atividade como Dj. Explorando toda a diversidade musical da cena electrónica, desde sonoridades mais relaxantes ou mais dançáveis, como acid jazz, dub, deep house, até ao techno e progressivo.
O início da produção electrónica começa mais tarde, usando todas as suas influências musicais, explorando as paisagens de sons experimentais, ambientais e também o techno com alguns grooves progressivos.
Tem participado nestes últimos anos em festivais como o Boom Festival, Freedom e Zna Gathering...

FLR03 - Floating Machine (LIVE)

David Rodrigues is the godfather of Cosanostra, the most persistent electronic music promoters and most respected producers of the best underground parties in Coimbra. 2017 is their 18h birthday. The list of names that performed in their weekly residence is endless...
Besides running this conspicuous organization, David also has a weekly radio show in a local station (Radio Universidade de Coimbra) called 'Pangrama' where he explores every aspect of contemporaneous electronic music. Basically David is a digger, and a very experienced one, and he likes to show it in his performances, so expect nothing but hibrid mutant electronics boosted by powerfull bass but allways with refined taste and carefull handling.

Revelation Of Sound is pleased to present Mary Yuzovskaya. By way of NYC, Berlin and before that Moscow, vinyl only techno DJ, producer and record label owner Mary Yuzovskaya has been cultivating her unique orbit in the electronic dance music firmament for over 13 years.

Having graced the decks of all Moscow’s hotspots back in the mid-2000s, Mary moved to Berlin, where she quickly became recognised for both her blisteringly-precise vinyl-only techno sets and her painstakingly professional approach to the craft of DJing. Based in New York City since 2013, Mary currently holds a residency at Public Records and solely runs her very own record label called Monday Off, launched in 2017, where she curates and presses work from artists that explore techno's trippier, more hypnotic side. After relocating to the US, Mary quickly became a key figure in its scene, performing regularly at different venues including multiple residencies at some of the city’s institutional parties like Unter, where she was a staple for three years, as well as working as a vinyl distribution manager at renowned Brooklyn-based record shop Halcyon.

Mary has been fortunate enough to share the decks with many talented and internationally recognised musicians such as Blazej Malinowski, Claudio PRC, Dino Sabatini, Edit Select, Ness, Xhin, and many others. She has been busily traveling the world and performing her unique take on techno music’s deeper vibes at many noted clubs and parties across the world, including ://about blank, Basement, Compound (LA), Distillery (Leipzig), OHM, Output (Brooklyn), Propaganda (Moscow), and Tresor, to name only a few.

Sound designer/producer & Live performer, Worg is based in Rome and founded his imprint "Lykos Records" at the end of the 'Anno Urbis MMXVIII'. Amongst highlights, Worg played Tresor in 2019 and has focused in recent months on his freshly released Ep 'La Cena delle ceneri' on Circular Limited. It's with much pleasure we're welcoming him with a Live session that he recorded for the occasion, therefore giving us a deeper insight into his work process.
 
Worg's musical range extends from experimental through slight accents of industrial, to approaching deep techno. He shows special attention for textures and persistent rhythms; you'll hear smooth pads and distortions, -drones, -hypnotic melodies & some metallic discordance; those various sounds merging both Live or in his studio productions, to create complex and distinct sonorities. It's those heterogeneous elements that give life to his body of work, enveloped in a sonic gloomy haze, to accompany the audience into a voyage of "spectral soundscapes & fantasies, located in dystopian places" of his imagination.

Granting the audience with a stunning transition from the day to the night, So proved his deep-rooted storytelling abilities; back then and also in this exclusive mix.

Besides touring in Europe twice, he devotes his time in Japan into the organisation of the well-acknowledged Labyrinth festival where he holds a deserved title of the resident dj.

Coming from a small town in the north of Portugal, Ânia Utset, known as UT7, had her first experience as a DJ in 2012. From then onwards, she has been building a vast musical culture that she’s shared with audiences from the North to the South of Portugal, with passages through some of it’s most respected clubs. Through her performances, she displays an hypnotic style, leaning on dense textures and impactful rhythms which never forget how to groove. Her intention when playing music is clear: she wants to turn the dancers into passengers of a voyage to a different dimension, an alternate reality away from our own. She describes her influences as combination of sounds made uo of the subterranean echoes of Berlin, the rich synthetic string arrangements of techno’s cradle, Detroit, and the trademark Italian headtrip, touched by the emotion and minimalist melodies of the relentless Swedish style. Fully absorbed by her desire to evolve as an artist, she moved to the magic land of Holland in 2017, to further develop her career.
