Junction Forest is a new label operated by Junction Records Store, out of Seoul. The first release is from our associate Tim a.k.a S.O.N.S and is a trance 3-tracker with a few twists. 
It is titled after an (in)famous forest in the middle of Seoul, straightforwardly called... Seoul Forest. 

Some words from S.O.N.S about the release:

So I got some complains about my last album, reportedly containing no danceable tracks, 
"I tried to play it out and everybody left" said one angry customer. "I thought it sounded fine but it clears the floor 100%" wrote another one.

Well this time I took a different approach.

On the A side, you get Tteuggeopge (meaning "Hot" in Korean) - it's a mixture of acid techno and psy-trance breakdowns, with some vocal samples taken from an old Korean movie, a jazz intro and a long 9.09minutes build up (figures are never chosen randomly) which I hope won't let the dancefloor unmoved - if you dare to play it! 
On the flip you get the ambient version... no! I was joking! you get 2 other trance tracks
Psychic Link is a mixture of Hard & Goa Trance sounds with breakbeats samples & a surprising deep tribal interlude in the middle to cool down the room for a minute. 
And finally Snow White And The Seven Mushrooms is an angry bad tripping tribute to 90s progressive house sounds. Like if Robin S took too much acid and is haunted by some supernatural creatures.

Buenos Aires-born DJ TEETH takes you to the dentist in Berlin in the latest episode of LAYERtv. After being exposed to his mother and grandmother’s invasive fanaticism for 80s dance music, where he would be woken up for an entire Saturday of chores to the rhythm of Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, and Cerrone tunes, our hero for today developed a passion for all things vinyl. 

The last decade has seen DJ TEETH at Berghain’s steamy LAB dance, Berlin’s queerest Cocktail d’Amore, the infamous Tresor, Macadam in Nantes, Harder in New York and DC, Stockholm’s Bronx, festivals like Folsom in San Francisco, Lighthouse in Croatia or residencies at Renate’s Pretty Ugly and the groundbreaking Popoff Kitchen in Moscow, Milan, and Paris. 

As the co-founder of Hypersoft, a Berlin queer collective, radio show, and club night, DJ TEETH is creating a new space for the scene and a platform for up-and-coming and established DJs from the queer scene and beyond.

A good friend (and probably his N.1 fan) has described his approach to DJing as an elixir of 90’s progressive and trance, mad Acid House, analog synthesizer & Belgian new beat twists - with a dash of psychedelic space techno for the pleasure of worldwide dancefloor enthusiasts.” DJ TEETH is about to prove his friend right with this vinyl-only mix.

Superski is a dynamic duo made up of heavy hitters Voiski and Eliott Litrowski. Together the pair have teamed up to collaborate on new music based around a common love for analogical synthesizers and their vision of a colourful and positive club culture. 

Their music is fun, euphoric and rooted in all the things that makes dance music great.

In respect of influences they draw upon a great deal blurring the lines between House, Italo and Techno and there is something very 80's about the whole undercurrent behind the project. Think led lights and sunsets.

We invited the pair to record a mixtape which represents their sound and what they have delivered is a masterclass in funk - a no holds barred affair packed with energy and wild cuts.

Disco legend Sylvester comes to Dark Entries with Private Recordings: August 1970, an intimate collection of vintage jazz, blues, and gospel. While Sylvester is best known for his chart-topping collaborations with producer Patrick Cowley, such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” this release reveals his passion for the sounds of the 30s and 40s. In 1970 a 22-year-old Sylvester had moved to San Francisco and found himself involved with the Cockettes, the infamous psychedelic performance art troupe. Among this milieu was Peter Mintun, a pianist and record collector living in a commune devoted to retro culture. According to Mintun, “We were like hippies who lived in the twenties. We lived in a house that didn’t have anything modern in it. Nothing in it was made after World War II.” Mintun and Sylvester bonded over their love of Black singers of yore and were allotted a slot during Cockettes performances reviving the music of the Prohibition Era. One afternoon, Sylvester and Mintun recorded a number of their shared favorites using a high-end microphone a friend had acquired. Private Recordings features 9 songs from this session, including standards like “Stormy Weather,” “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and “God Bless the Child.” Sylvester’s unmistakable falsetto brings depth and a dash of camp to these familiar tunes. The recordings are casual and intimate, even capturing banter between Sylvester and Mintun; their brief rendition of “When My Dreamboat Comes Home” has the duo working out a melody in real time. In addition to their sonic explorations of decades past, Sylvester and Mintun also staged photographic shoots in vintage couture. Private Recordings comes with a 16-page booklet on firm cardstock featuring images from these never-before-seen shoots as well as liner notes from Mintun detailing his friendship with Sylvester and their experiences recording. All this is housed in a metallic silver sleeve designed by Eloise Leigh featuring a 1920’s Art Deco aesthetic. The record will be released on September 6th which would have been Sylvester’s 76th birthday, and all proceeds from Private Recordings will go to the two charities that Sylvester left his royalties after his death: Project Open Hand and PRC (formerly AIDS Emergency Fund). This essential release documents the earliest known recordings from one of disco’s greatest talents.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker are the Electro duo of Caroline Hervé and Michel Amato from Grenoble, France. The pair met during the early 90s at a rave and soon after bought turntables and began DJing. In 1996, their collaboration began, writing music heavily influenced by the 80s post punk bands Fad Gadget, DAF, Liaisons Dangeuresues, Yazoo as well as Italo Disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, the pair set out to lighten the seriousness and add a camp sexiness. Upon hearing their demos DJ Hell signed them to his Munich-based International DJ Gigolo label and released their first 2 EPs in 1998 and 1999. Their debut album ”First Album" is released in 2001 and pioneers the electroclash movement of the early 2000’s. 

“Lost Tracks Vol. 1” contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999.  Distancing themselves from the hard techno produced in Europe at the time, the duo fused 80’s European New Wave/Italo Disco with 90’s Detroit Electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. Somewhat unorthodox, their sound has a song-like format, based on the verse-chorus pop schema of the 80s music they grew up listening to. Song arrangements are direct, spontaneous, seemingly unplanned, and mainly generated with some synths, a beat box and a microphone. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. Distinguished by Miss Kittin's French accented voice, full of derision, she sings about falling in love with an alien, sexy nightlife in Berlin and explicit S&M leather play.

All songs have been transferred from the original DAT tapes by the band and mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in glossy jacket featuring a never seen before black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn’t expect anything in return”.

Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records have teamed up once more to release the final volume of gay porn soundtracks by San Francisco-based musician and producer, Patrick Cowley. One of the most revolutionary and influential figures in the canon of disco, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music, “The San Francisco Sound.” Born in Buffalo, NY on October 19, 1950, Patrick moved to San Francisco in 1971 to study at the City College of San Francisco. He founded the Electronic Music Lab at the school, where he would make experimental soundtracks by blending various types of music and adapting them to the synthesizer.

By the mid-70’s, Patrick’s synthesis techniques landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester, including hits like “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)”, “Dance Disco Heat” and “Stars.” This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. His 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” and his production work with edgy New Wave band Indoor Life were both of particular note. By 1981, Patrick had released a string of dance 12″ singles, like “Menergy” and “Megatron Man”. He also had founded Megatone Records, the label upon which he released his debut album, “Menergy”. Around this time Patrick was hospitalized and diagnosed with an unknown illness: that which would later be called AIDS. Throughout 1982, he recorded two more Hi-NRG hits, “Do You Wanna Funk” for Sylvester, and “Right On Target” for Paul Parker, as well as a second solo album “Mind Warp”. On November 12, 1982, he passed away.

In 1979 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70s to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick’s songs in-sync with the film scenes. The result was the VHS collections “Muscle Up” and “School Daze” released in 1979 and 1980. “Afternooners” is the third collection of Cowley’s instrumental songs, recorded in between 1979 and 1982. Some of these recordings are demos from the album "Mind Warp".  All songs were originally untitled, so we’ve used the titles from Fox Studio’s 8mm film loops. This compilation also includes three bonus tracks found in the archives of fellow Megatone Records recording artist Paul Parker and the attic of teenage friend Lily Bartels. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick crafted a singular sound from his collection of synthesizers, percussion, modified guitars, and hand-built equipment. The listener enters a world of forbidden vices, evocative of Patrick’s time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on “Afternooners” reflect the advances of the equipment available at the onset of the 1980s. Cowley's unadulterated electronic forms are stripped down and dubbed up. Lush electronic percussion, soaring synthesizer riffs and low slung funk grooves comingle on these magnificent soundscapes.

Featuring 70 minutes of music never before released on vinyl. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. The vinyl is housed in a gatefold jacket designed by Berlin-based artist Gwenael Rattke, featuring black and white photos of Patrick in his studio that opens to a full color array of x-rated scenes from the Fox Studio vaults. Included is a fold-out poster featuring a handmade collage using photography and xeroxed graphics of classic gay porn imagery and an essay from Drew Daniel of Matmos. For Patrick’s 67th birthday, Dark Entries and Honey Soundsystem Records present a glimpse into the futuristic world of a young genius. These recordings shed a new light on the experimental side of a disco legend who was taken too soon.
