Be yourself and do your best to let go of "perfection", it just does not exist. Ride the rhythm not the cue mark. Practice with any two records and/or tracks. Play YOUR beat in the mix, your friendships and with life in general. Less surrender to being salty may not be so cool these days but it will welcome a more patient attitude with yourself and help those that you love.

With small beginnings in Cincinnati Ohio, HNDRNC began his journey as a DJ over 10 years ago by mixing in his bedroom, playing for friends, countless house parties and working the club/warehouse scene in the Midwest. After some time, he felt the need to evolve and chase new experiences in New York; a city that has the power to bring a person’s true essence to the forefront.
His musical evolution as an artist is purely an expression of himself and how he processes the world around him.  How he hears, moves and interacts with all forces. Empowering, fleeting, fast, and hard.

His fulfillment comes from being able to control a room and make memorable moments for his audience. Influenced by the likes of DVS1, Setaoc Mass, Oscar Mulero and MARRØN, he uses singular elements to build layers and make connections between the things that pulse through our DNA. Eric Umble is a Brooklyn-based sound artist, clarinetist, DJ, and event producer. An acclaimed classical musician with a focus on experimental music, Eric's love of repetition and extended forms made his jump to DJing a natural step. 

Eric is co-founder, lead producer, and resident of FACETIME along with Rebecca Goldberg (Detroit Underground). Founded in 2019, FaceTime builds and celebrates community through music, dance, and visual art. It is held monthly in New York City and has also presented after-hours, virtual, and late-night events in both Detroit and Cleveland. Eric is a regular presence in the New York scene appearing at venues including Bossa Nova Civic Club, Trans-Peocs, Mansions, Market Hotel and more. "Kaifeng-born, now London-based Yu Su is a musician, DJ, sound artist and occasional chef. As one of the most prominent Chinese artists with a highly unique voice working across the globe in the last 5 years, her output covers all the ground you’d expect and more. Her multiple critically acclaimed records on UK’s Technicolor (Ninja Tune), Netherlands’s Music from Memory and China’s own Bie Records has seen her nominated for Canada’s Polaris Prize. She has co-produced music with John Carroll Kirby, Duval Timothy and is known for remix works for Parquet Courts, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and many more. As a DJ, she is unpredictable, idiosyncratic; just “casually having the dance floor transfixed” have put her on the spotlights at clubs and festivals internationally like Dekmantel, Glastonbury, Boiler Room, iii Points, Nuits Sonores, Rainbow Disco Club, Phonox and so on. She has also recently been featured on the cover of Mixmag magazine, marking the first Chinese cover star. She has composed for feature films and fashion brands like Sacai, Jimmy Choo and London/Shanghai based SAMUEL GUÌ YANG."

Bond is a DJ from Buenos Aires and a member of the LGBTQIA+ collective LOCA, He is the founder and director of Radio LOCA and LOCA Rec, platforms dedicated to consciously promoting and representing the careers of queer and dissident artists from Latin America.

This mix is a journey through the current pulse of the queer electronic scene in the Global South. A showcase of the sound of Buenos Aires, featuring tracks by fellow local producers, unreleased gems, and previews of Bond’s upcoming EP out in May via Pansa Records.

With 30 years of djing in numerous countries, Ron Like Hell has no intention of doing anything else in their lifetime. They produce queer centered events in NYC both solo and as part of the dj duo Wrecked. Ron’s support of young artists in the music industry is unquestionably genuine as they have shared their spotlight with djs in their radio show and parties. Hard to pin as dj of one particular genre is not a concern to Ron. With 26+ years of record store experience their excitement for music goes deep appreciating many genres which provide infinite inspiration. They still love programming their music for a single genre dance party. Indulging such events is in no way an obstacle or compromise. For Ron, it is similar to painting with oil instead of acrylic. There is no intention of being the greatest dj championing specific one or two genres as they prefer to be known as an eclectic dj that reads the room as best they can. Being so eclectic doesn't seem to prohibit their appeal from techno, disco and house music forward bookings..if anything it has increased their recognition and respect from some of the world's best parties and venues. A few of the most notable spaces are Panorama Bar, Lab.oratory and Ost (Berlin), Dekmantel Selectors, Draaimolen (Netherlands), Sustain-Release, Honcho Campout and residencies at Basement and Nowadays in the NYC area. Their creativity has even been immortalized on physical media with a dj mix on a one-sided vinyl accompaniment to Baxter Dury’s 2024 album, “I Thought I was Better Than You” and a mixtape for Mister Saturday Night Records MSN Tape series Their role in the industry is undeniably unique and influential.

About Lonerist: 

@thelonerist is a UK-based dj/producer who specialises in dub techno and deep electronic soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from the emotive depth of Detroit techno and the atmospheric nuances of dub, Lonerist crafts tracks and dj sets that are both immersive and contemplative and weaves a sonic narrative that blurs the line between isolation and intensity.

Taken from the "Shimmerland EP" by North Lake releasing April 14th on Vinyl, April 21st on Digital!

After Architectural’s Heaven Can Wait EP from earlier this year, North Lake here supplies three techno gems on this 12” for Maceo Plex’s Ellum, following up a string of hit releases with Sweatshop, Phonica, Permanent Vacation and others. Each track displays North Lake’s expert craft in a different way. Opening up is ‘Shimmer Land’, who’s haunting melodies and textures grow and grow throughout the track, over an undeniably infectious, tightly swung drum groove. Next up is ‘Solid Metal Funk’, which immediately lives up to its name with percussive stabs of metallic FM synthesis. These stabs form a rhythmic and melodic backbone for the track, dancing around over five minutes while simple drums hold this effortlessly danceable composition together. The B side of this 12” is ‘Paper Dreams’, which quickly disregards the lightness of its precursor in favour of a clearly deep house inspired techno, using swirling synths and emotional melodies in careful equilibrium. The result is a track that simultaneously pulls one half of you into a trancelike, insular state, and the other half of you to the centre of the dancefloor. The perfect end to this sublime, multifaceted EP.

Mixed live for PRIDE 2020 Sound Of New York livestream on The Lot Radio. Our virtual dance-a-thon was a fundraiser for The Okra Project, Black Trans Travel Fund, For the Gworls, Black Trans Femmes in the Arts, Trans Women of Color Survival Fund, G.L.I.T.S. Inc., New Alternatives and some of the streaming artists that needed financial assistance due to the nightlife economy being shut down. LGBTQ+ community from around the planet often travel to NYC specifically for Pride so we highlighted a wide assortment of local area talent to show the world a diverse appreciation of beats and expression. Collectively, it came together far easier than we thought especially during an unprecedented era therefore a tremendous thank you to @thelotradio for hosting everything, Good Room & Elsewhere for the live remote access and use of their DJ equipment, every single DJ and collective for their art of the mix and last but not least YOU for supporting not only your faves but also contributing to very important causes throughout the "party". Black Trans Lives Matter everyday. Without blind love for one another we simply fail to do more for our rights, our extended Q+ families and the next generation of free belief spirit.

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. I have been a music enthusiast since age 9 (playing violin then tenor sax), bought records with my weekly allowance every Friday night when I was a kid. Loved seeing DJs in the 80s but a visit to NYC in 1990 changed my life after hearing the city's DJs "say" different things with their records which were all non-top 40 tunes. A big door opened and I went through never looking back being eclectic as possible.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NYC music scene?
A. I moved to NYC in March of 1998. After 8 months, I became an employee of Satellite Records selling records to every dance music head that rolled through the city. It was both fun and very hard work. After 2001, retail struggled hard so I worked part time jobs at other record shops while I sold records online and did my best to play music I owned that people wanted to hear in the non-loving house music days pre-2009. Stuff like obscure synth, rare disco, italo, ebm and psych rock were my go-tos to play but I still collected house records even if they were just for me to enjoy. In 2009 I partnered with a buddy as a DJ duo then later we named ourselves Wrecked in 2011, a major left turn of a party for the NYC gay/queer nightlife scene which I never had an opportunity to play for. Being accepted by that community truly helped me feel like I finally gave something back to the city that taught and continues to teach me so much.

Q. Tell us about this mix.
A. The mixes on Juanita's are a great example of Brooklyn's finest and friendliest DJs. Since the series was launched, many of the mixes are helping me through these heavy modern times so I wanted to give back what those mixes gave me which is comfort and joy.  My approach was to include bumping, patient, soulful, dubby and trippy music. Something to help you relax yet dance nice and easy to...or get your head nodding, raising the volume as you chill with your friends on the couch. I had a wonderful time making it so a tremendous thank you for asking me to contribute.
