Tom Colontonio - Sparkover (Sean Tyas Remix)

Dirty Harry was actually the first Gorillaz release of phase two when it appeared as a limited 12" white label vinyl promo with no band name or record label logo (catalog number 'KONG01'), in January 2005.

Initial copies were released in the UK but by early February plenty had made their way over to the US.

The white label did not bear the name "Gorillaz" or the name of any of their record labels. The track was later selected to be the third single from 'Demon Days' and got a full commercial release in the UK / Europe, and Japan. The extra tracks on the release were this time quite disappointing in that most dedicated fans already had all but two of the tracks across the formats, having obtained them from promos, imports and radio broadcasts, etc.

For the first time in label history, Keinemusik is putting out an EP with just remixes. The moniker for this: Doppelgänger. The reason for this: Well, we like remixes and were curious to find out how other artists, artists that we appreciate a lot, would approach our material. Why now, you might ask. Why wait for the catalogue number KM038? See, we just wanted to offer those guys a decent pool of tracks to choose from.

Simple Symmetry are going for Adam Ports I Never Wear Black on Side A, transforming the original into a dramatic ride through gong echoing frenzy and riff-heavy e-guitar emphasis. The originals guitar lead on the other hand gets some synthetic treatment, just to be backed up by spaced out synth melodies and an organic bassline.

The second chapter sees &MEs and Finks gruelling comedown score One On One turn into a meditation over groove, courtesy of Bedouin. The guys are going for a sparse, sophisticated arrangement, opening space for Finks shattered croon, yet raising the temperature after the break into a threatening, string-laden climax.

The closing assignment is handled by Redshape. Hes repositioning Rampas Newborn Soul through his very own dark recourse on Electro-Techno. The producer enigma even more so adds some EBM flavour to his signature sound, incorporating a catchy synth bass and heavy, stomping beat. Floor quaking material indeed.

Exclusive Ivory & Auggië  'Basic Rhythm'

Milan creatives and VOLT-residents Daniel Tagliaferri and Simone Gianoncelli rather known under their artist monikers Ivory and Auggië teamed up for MoBlack Records' next strike of the year and deliver the single 'Basic Rhythm'. Having released on labels such as Borders of Light or Buttress Auggië's definitely one of the artist to look out for in 2020 while Ivory can call labels such as microCastle, Frau Blau, Isolate or Kompakt his home and is already a step ahead of his musical companion for this release. However, the artist duo produced a dance floor-oriented take that unites Auggië's preference for metal and industrial-sounding elements as well as Ivory's driving and lush bass line in combination with a catchy lead-synth that undergoes a glitch-treatment from time to time to break open the aforecreated musical harmony and evoke a new momentum in the artists' production. 'Basic Rhythm' focuses, as the title suggests, on few elements, which solidly put together come up with an inevitable groove that sweeps tornado-like across the floor.

Ivory & Auggië's single 'Basic Rhythm' will be released on MoBlack Records on January 31st, 2020.

As the pandemic tightened its grip on the UK, the Manchester and Salford underground music community watched helplessly as our vital spaces; clubs, bars, record shops and creative hangouts began to close their doors indefinitely. Not allowing these closures to halt collective creativity, producers and musicians from across the city got to work. 20 artists have come together on this 90 minute compilation to showcase the bubbling pool of talent which the North West and beyond has to offer.

The compilation reflects the endless diversity that our scene thrives on. Featuring an array of sounds from breakneck techno to sample infused garage, clattering broken beat, sleazy italo, ghostly electro, dreamy pop and contemporary club. All of this amplifying the multifaceted musical bubble which the city facilitates.

All proceeds from the compilation are split 50/50 with the artists and the Save Our Scene - Manchester & Salford fund offering a range of support for workers within our community who won’t qualify for government funding as they may be freelance, on zero-hour contracts, paid cash in hand, or don’t meet other criteria.

Amsterdam’s De Ambassade shines brighter than ever with a new digital-only release. A truly beautiful, heartbreaking interpretation of the 1982 track Der Kanal from the German minimal wave band Heute. The lyrics are based on the work of undervalued French poet and writer Boris Vian, a controversial figure and existentialist avant la lettre. His work was characterized by embracing the absurd and surreal, whilst portraying a great sense of humor. The likes of Sartre, De Beauvoir, as well as Roald Dahl and Murukami are never far away. It’s cold and provocative, with a touch of nostalgia.

Istanbul’a is a song written for the ancient city Istanbul that evokes timeless questions: Can one ever leave behind one’s home? Can one ever truly arrive at a home that was once abandoned yet never quite forgotten? The original version of this haunting track is a dreamy meander through a labyrinth of marimbas and harps, orchestrated delicately by Santi and brought to life by Tuğçe’s ethereal voice. Santi & Tuğçe first released an extended version of this track in 2017 in the aftermath of political events that filled the city with grave uncertainty, much like the current moment in which we find ourselves. Even more so than at the time of its original release, today Istanbul’a captures a widespread sentiment of liminality and uprootedness that echoes all around and gains new meaning in our world as we ask: Can we go back to a past that is long gone? Will things ever be the same again?

Along with Santi & Tuğçe’s revision of their original Istanbul’a, this EP features three brand new renditions. KMLN blends elements of deep tribal house and minimal techno into the original track that is bound to bring the heat to the dancefloor, while Herrhausen & Treindl’s approach yields an equally danceable, yet more laid-back euphoria. The EP ends on a climactic note with Dunkelbunt’s version featuring his signature transglobal electronic-instrumental sound that is full of energy, swing and a sense of eclecticism that is as layered as the ancient city Istanbul itself.

Expert in trippy joints and knee-buckling bounce, OZ-based producer @reptant_the_lizard is back with a vengeance after an array of choice outings on the likes of Salt Mines, Planet Euphorique and Craigie Knowes. Neroli reaches release number 50 during its 20th anniversary and celebrates with a special project, an album of songs by some of the label artists and friends. The title reference goes back to 20 years ago when label’s honcho Volcov decided to give the label the name of Brian Eno’s Neroli album, an hour long ambient opus inspired by the oil derived by the flowers of the Seville orange. So after 20 years and 50 releases the label goes full circle and offers an album of delicate and heartwarming melodies and atmospheric songs. The talent of original UK dons Kirk Degiorgio, Dego and Ian o’Brien is enrolled once again to guarantee sophistication and depth. Patrice Scott and Fred P, who had recently released eps on Neroli, are joined here by fellow spacecadet Aybee…all delivering warm futuristic pieces! K15 and Linkwood debut on the label, opening and closing the album with class. And there is even a lost composition by Volcov himself with Detroit’s Gerald Mitchell and Pirahnahead as part of some 2010 sessions that might resurface soon…THE FIRST CIRCLE is complete!

 A collaboration between Planningtorock and Chanel sound director Michel Gaubert, the songs found on PlanningtoChanel soundtracked the legendary Parisian fashion house’s Autumn-Winter 2020 show earlier this year. “I always felt that Jam incorporates operatic and cinematic elements to their unique sound,” Gaubert explains. “The Chanel show was inspired by French cinema from the 70’s and 80’s and Planningtorock blessed the show with their sound and gave birth to PlanningtoChanel.”
