The German trio Brandt Brauer Frick are our special guests for the 10th episode of Dimensions Festival Mix Series. Being one of the hot names on the electronic music scene, the guys are showing top class behind the decks with a selection that spans across various music genres.

Recorded live at the Berlin intimate venue - Loftus Hall, this mix is a fantastic warm up for the BBF performance at Dimensions Festival 2013!

Biography:

Sometimes what you don’t do is as important as what you do. Brandt Brauer Frick have made name for themselves producing techno without the technology, using classical instruments in preference to synthesizers and computers. It’s a negative that’s had positive results. The Berlin trio’s 2010 debut ‘You Make Me Real’ was a forward-thinking gem. They reworked it on 2011’s ‘Mr Machine’, a techno record played totally live by a ten-piece classical ensemble — they’ve graced the stages of dark nightclubs, classical concert halls and cultural institutions alike, namely Glastonbury, Coachella, Montreux Jazz, Lincoln Center, Mutek, Sonar, Southbank, Centre Pompidou, Fabric, Berghain during their 150 or so worldwide shows over the last 18 months. Taken together, Brandt Brauer Frick are the sound of dance music’s rule book being torn up, pulped and recycled into sheet music paper.

“All of your fave mainstream Southern rappers came out of the regional New Orleans "Bounce" scene. Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Ying Yang Twins and even Beyonce all have strong ties to this music and its insistent, booty-rumbling rhythms have been borrowed for many hits over the years. "Get Me Bodied," "Back That Azz Up," and "Get Low" are just a few examples, but there are plenty more. The most interesting thing about this music is, like Brazilian funk carioca, much of it is never pressed on vinyl or even "released." Instead it's passed hand-to-hand through cassettes and CD-Rs, so most of the best music rarely leaves the region. Rusty Lazer is a DJ, producer and manager from New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s been a drummer for most of his life and switched to DJ’ing after hurricane Katrina ended all 5 of the bands he played with. In his time since 2005 he’s toured the world playing with and managing artists from New Orleans like Big Freedia, Nicky da B and Katey Red, among others. His musical style is highly improvisational and focuses on live remixes and mashups of songs from multiple genres, decades and styles, with a focus on New Orleans music and global electronic music.
