Maybe its because at my feet lies the intersection of two distinct paths merging at a point of vulnerability
Maybe because its a reminder of you and me, and the blissful bond we once shared
Without a care in the world, my arms wrapped around you to shelter you from the cold
Two souls kept warm by each others company

"The Door to Happiness" - A Spoken Word Poem

GET SOME

This is a new concept I'm trying out; A poem within a poem. I think it offers an interesting dynamic. Hope you like it.

Lyrics: 
In my dreams i lose the concept of time, its something that i don't really mind because its gonna take me a while to find out everything about you that i can, from the gentle touch of your hands to your toes in the sand of this beach devoid of reality, these brief moments that you've given me have brought me to the brink of insanity, but i simply don't care; your hair swaying with the wind, our beating hearts making up the only sound in between whispers that carry secrets too heavy to be heard aloud. 

You see, in my dreams every touch is gentle and warm, every kiss is filled with bliss, and every word that you say plays back in my head like the most beautiful song; and i struggle to hold on to the memories of the days where we laughed and played under the soft white bed sheets, the sweet smell of your perfume as you entered the room, those times where we would lay beside each other and smile as we stared at the moon, wondering if it was looking back at us and smiling too. 
In my dreams, forever never seems quite long enough. 
So if this is all the time we have, just don't wake me up. 
But in case you truly cant stay, ill leave you with a final poem:

"In My Dreams" - A Spoken Word Poem

LYRICS
"Baby, tell me something; how many times have you had your heart broken? How many times have you had your faith stolen?, by these guys that promise you everything, only to find that behind their clever lies and disguise they seem to have fooled you. Schooled you, into thinking that you finally found the one, your soulmate, you feel your fate has been decided, and then they leave..and you're alone again, wiping the tears off onto your sleeve. 

How many times have you been unable to sleep because the one man that you thought you'd keep forever isn't by your side. You try and close your eyes but all you see are memories, hidden deep within the crevices of your soul are stories unforetold, visions of growing old together, visions of your hands intertwined, walking barefoot through the sands of time for what you feel feels like forever.

You lie there and fantasize about the familiar smell of his cologne, only to find that it makes you feel more alone than ever. You start to cry but it doesn't help, the tears flow down and you wish that they would drown all the pain you feel, but you soon realize that tears just make the pain feel even more real.

Your friends tell you that you need to let go, and lord knows you've tried. But regret still occupies the space between your arms where he used to lie. It's strange how much pain a broken heart can make, the same emotions it gives, it can also take. Feelings of sickness that linger long into the night; too bad there's no medication for heartbreak.

Listen, you think you're alone but you're not, its not about what you want, its about what you've got. Reach deep into your soul and pull out that strength thats been hiding inside all this time, and soon you'll find that your state of mind will change for the better, you can ride out this tough weather; and when the rain has passed and the wind has amassed to just a gentle breeze, you'll find...that pain is like the tides of the ocean -it comes and it goes. Just take it slow, and soon your heart will grow back to what it once was, you'll pick up the pieces of all those broken dreams and although it might seem tough to pick yourself up from that hole you've fallen into...Never lose faith that someday you'll get what you deserve. Someday someone will love you so much that they'll give you the world. 
And maybe then, youll forget all those times you had your heart broken.

LYRICS
If my pen is a brush, then this page is my canvas. Every stroke is a memory soaked in sadness, every colour is an emotion that leaks from the soul, every painting a dream amidst the white background, like a photograph frozen in snow. 

They say the strongest shade of red comes from a bleeding heart; out of the pain of a love that's been torn apart. 

For me, that was you. I mean at some point i guess everyone plays the fool. No need to cover it up, I've shed my fair share of tears too. Manipulated and used, you played my heart out like a piano, until it finally bent out of tune. 

Now the sounds of my memories are lacking in clarity, lost in the deep end of this pool of disparity, sometimes i feel so close to you until i realize that you're actually way ahead of me. 

On this one way street i see you fade into the future, while i'm barely able to move; all i do anymore is listen to old record tapes that remind me of you, warm music that was once meant to sooth, now just feels like more salt on these wounds. 

Failed promises creep into my dreams at night. Constant reminders of all the things i didn't do to make this right, remnants of your scent and what you looked like flood my past and for a brief moment i get a chance to bask in our memories but they never last, i always wake up too fast. 
The inevitability of each morning, opening my eyes to the reality of not having you by my side, and as hard as I try to avoid it, I keep playing back that night when you told me your love wasn't true. That pain hit me like an arrow, pierced my heart and went straight through; now it just hurts with every thought of you. 


I did my best to make it seem like I didn't care, but it was an obvious bluff. When it comes to love, there is no such thing as too much -there is only not enough. And in the journey between this world and the world above, I wonder if the hearts final regret..is the fear that it may never have truly loved.

"Memories" - A Spoken Word Poem

It's a full feature poem that I'm tremendously proud of, and one that I hope can instill feelings of inspiration and confidence in whatever you do in your life.

“They say that ignorance is bliss...thats all i want, a spotless mind. Devoid of any regrets or doubts, no barriers of space or time. Memories forgotten like wisps in the wind, appearing for just  a moment, and then never returning again. 
But thats just wishful thinking. Because honestly, most of the time we're on the brink of sinking; under the weight of all of those wasted opportunities and regretful choices, all of the things we've held back and all of the things we've voiced, all that noise and all that silence, all of those times that we should have done something, but we didn't, held back by a false sense of defiance.
You see our lives are not shaped by just one thing, or one decision. Instead, our actions are like seeds; growing and branching out into a multiplicity of inevitabilities that combine to form the matrix of our existence, and whenever we try to intervene we find that we simply get tangled up in the vines of all our limitless possibilities. We come to learn that is the seemingly inconsequential events of our lives that truly end up defining our past, and leading us to this present moment, to right now, right here...because that’s all that matters. 
So don't fear the moment, own it; don't be afraid to control it. Because If all we have is right now, then you better get going, and don't look back. Open up your palms and follow that map that you've carefully drawn out, and you'll soon find yourself breaking away from the very things you thought you'd never be able to live without. 
But don't jump out of your seat just yet. A great leader knows that every mile begins with a first step, every inspiring speech begins with a single breath, and regardless of what others say, you alone are the architect of your own success. So build high, and build fearlessly, because that foundation was there long before you realized it, and will remain long after you forget. 
“...Oh and by the way, you know when they say that good things come to those who wait? Thats not true; good things come to those who chase. Those who embrace the uncertainty of what they do, those who fight to get through the hard times, those who run across a field of landmines without blinking an eye, those who aren't afraid to cry to get through the pain, you see tears are the avenues through which our souls are cleansed, they are the feather-light droplets of purity that carry with them the weight of the world.
And What's more, is that they remind us that its ok to be afraid of what lies at the end of life’s great endeavours. 
Because even though some things never change, something's can change you forever."

"Don't Look Back" - Inspirational Spoken Word Poetry

I sort of look at this as a sequel to "In My Dreams" -not just because it also features a poem within a poem-, but because I feel like the theme is a progression from dreaming and reminiscing of the past, to living in the present. Enjoy!

LYRICS
I loved the way the sun wrapped around you, like a dress woven from strands of light. 
I loved the way you stayed close to me, as we held hands walking the empty streets at night.
I loved the way your eyes glimmered with hope, like a diamond pulled from the earth and polished for the first time, or the way your smile could break through the eyes of the blind,
I loved your innocence, untainted by time and unbound by fate. I loved your curiosity, and how you were cautious enough to know what's at stake.

The only problem was, I was too used to heartbreak. I became best friends with disappointment and I lost my belief in fate. So familiar with bad timing, I was always at the wrong place, until I realized that I couldn't go on seeing you as just a friend; I got so good at telling lies that even I started to believe them.

So now I'm gonna put my heart on the line and speak from my soul to let you know that your touch...is really the only thing I can feel anymore. The glisten in your eyes, the only thing I can see anymore. I want to bring you close and whisper in your ear like lovers do, these soft spoken words weighed down heavy with truth:

"Because honestly, all I want to hold you as the sun goes down and not let go until it comes back up. I want to be that warm connection that you crave whenever you feel a certain touch, I want to be that rush of adrenaline that envelopes you as you get close enough to the climactic peak of a moment you've never felt before, that heavenly moment when you can't take it anymore, then i want to be the arms that you fall into as you slip into a peaceful sleep, relieved of all that tension; let your guard down, I'll be your wall of protection. I want to be the ship to steer you in the right direction, and if ever you should hit an iceberg and feel like you're about to drown, I'll be the cocoon of oxygen that surrounds you; breathe me into your dreams, i want to be the seams that bind all your emotions together, i want to be your fantasy, your idea of forever, i want to be the roof over your head to shelter you from the rough weather, I want to be the guy that sweeps you off your feet; I want to be the pair of eyes that you suddenly meet in a crowded place, i want to be the face of everything you've ever thought you didn't deserve, the voice of everything they said you couldn't achieve, because the truth is... you can be anything you dare to believe.

But most importantly, I want you to know that even though this love of ours might not have lasted, I would still walk with you to the end of the world...and then past it."

One thing you need to understand right off the bat: I am not a "naturally" talented writer. The beauty that you may find in these poems sometimes comes from places inside me that I hope you never have to find within yourselves. But if you do -or if you have-, perhaps you'll come across some consolation here. The poetry you find here -regardless of topic- is what has helped me to recover and get back on track with my life, and it has invariably shaped the man I am today...I hope it can help you as well. 

For those who may not know, I started the Ryehighproductions channel to share some of my work with only a few select friends and family who had requested that I post some of my poems online. Slowly, and without much intervention on my part, the channel grew quickly and attracted many people from all walks of life.
