Havent logged into this sound cloud since middle school and im already a jr in college. Ive come a long way but still  got more to go this poem has helped me.

"To My Dearest Friend" - A Spoken Word Poem

LYRICS
I've never had the chance, to tell you how beautiful you look in the moonlight 
how the rays of that starry night hit you in ways that words simply can't describe, but I'll still try. 
They make you seem alive, all that energy you have stirring inside, finds its way onto the surface and radiates from your skin in ways that make the sun look dim...by comparison. 
I've never had the chance to figure out your flaws - see, I don't care about your strengths because it's your weaknesses that make you worth it, it's your imperfections that make you perfect. 
I've never had the chance to wake you with soft kisses, to whisper secrets underneath bedsheets - never had the chance to sweep you off your feet and make you mine, I mean, if heartache were a prison... Lord knows I've done my time. 
I've never had the chance to lie beside you and feel your heart beat, to admire the divinity encapsulated from the top of your head to the soles of your feet - to fight off those endless waves of sleep - to struggle to keep my eyes open because I'm afraid if I close them, you won't be there when I wake up. 
Opening my eyes, you're nowhere in sight, thinking "god damn I'm such a fool.." 
Broken guitar strings make my heart sing out of tune - a distant memory of my past, it seems these words are as close as I'll get to you. 
Like, what am I supposed to do to get you to notice me? I'm right here, and I never left.. I'm just waiting for the day that you take my hand and we go away to a place that's devoid of time and space - where I can wake up each morning to the sight of your beautiful face, effortlessly crafted, immaculately spaced... I guess what they say in that song is true: God really must have spent a little more time on you.

"Never Had the Chance" - A Spoken Word Poem

This is a new concept I'm trying out; A poem within a poem. I think it offers an interesting dynamic. Hope you like it.

Lyrics: 
In my dreams i lose the concept of time, its something that i don't really mind because its gonna take me a while to find out everything about you that i can, from the gentle touch of your hands to your toes in the sand of this beach devoid of reality, these brief moments that you've given me have brought me to the brink of insanity, but i simply don't care; your hair swaying with the wind, our beating hearts making up the only sound in between whispers that carry secrets too heavy to be heard aloud. 

You see, in my dreams every touch is gentle and warm, every kiss is filled with bliss, and every word that you say plays back in my head like the most beautiful song; and i struggle to hold on to the memories of the days where we laughed and played under the soft white bed sheets, the sweet smell of your perfume as you entered the room, those times where we would lay beside each other and smile as we stared at the moon, wondering if it was looking back at us and smiling too. 
In my dreams, forever never seems quite long enough. 
So if this is all the time we have, just don't wake me up. 
But in case you truly cant stay, ill leave you with a final poem:

"find me beneath the porcelain stars, amongst fragments of memories that define who we are,
touch me like a snowflake grazes a cheek, feel me like warm sand sinking under your feet,
And like lights that adorn the edges of streets, we touch the hearts of others as they pass through;

Making a new video and you get to decide which one!!!

  Many of you already know that we put out the new album just a short while ago. Thank you all for supporting it... we've gotten some incredible reviews and wonderfully positive feedback. I really love this album. I love it so much that I couldn't decide on which video to make next. See where I'm going with this yet? We opened with a video of "For Many" and are now considering which piece should follow it up. In all likelihood this will be the last video I produce (They're an increasingly expensive commitment with no monetary return... I do them because I love doing them... just can't afford to keep doing them.) So with all of that out in the open I want to invite my fans to make this decision. Your support has meant so much over the years and I'm often asked why I haven't done a video for this piece or that piece... trust me I would do videos for all of them if I could. How it breaks down is this. We're going to release the album on YouTube and Soundcloud. Two tracks per week with just a static image of Scott Waters wonderful cover art. When all of the pieces are finally online voting will begin on www.shanekoyczan.com.

There'll be a list of the tracks and each visitor will be allowed to cast their vote for the piece they'd most like to see made into a video. Please keep in mind that we don't have access to grants and are not crowd funding this project. Our budget is a modest 8k which I pay for myself. So please don't expect Michael Jackson's Thriller. Another angle to this little tidbit is that we will be accepting submissions from creators who might be interested in making the video. Animators, graphic designers, filmmakers... Pixar... whoever you are... If this is something that interests you and you believe you can work within the budget... it's all yours. Submit some of your work to submissions@shanekoyczan.com; the band and I will go through and decide which style we'd like to see applied to the chosen track. Something you should consider before making any commitments is that the 8k is in Canadian funds, which is currently laughable outside of Canada, so I hope you're up for a challenge. 12 - "When I Was A Kid" by Shane Koyczan and The Short Story Long

I sort of look at this as a sequel to "In My Dreams" -not just because it also features a poem within a poem-, but because I feel like the theme is a progression from dreaming and reminiscing of the past, to living in the present. Enjoy!

LYRICS
I loved the way the sun wrapped around you, like a dress woven from strands of light. 
I loved the way you stayed close to me, as we held hands walking the empty streets at night.
I loved the way your eyes glimmered with hope, like a diamond pulled from the earth and polished for the first time, or the way your smile could break through the eyes of the blind,
I loved your innocence, untainted by time and unbound by fate. I loved your curiosity, and how you were cautious enough to know what's at stake.

The only problem was, I was too used to heartbreak. I became best friends with disappointment and I lost my belief in fate. So familiar with bad timing, I was always at the wrong place, until I realized that I couldn't go on seeing you as just a friend; I got so good at telling lies that even I started to believe them.

So now I'm gonna put my heart on the line and speak from my soul to let you know that your touch...is really the only thing I can feel anymore. The glisten in your eyes, the only thing I can see anymore. I want to bring you close and whisper in your ear like lovers do, these soft spoken words weighed down heavy with truth:

"Because honestly, all I want to hold you as the sun goes down and not let go until it comes back up. I want to be that warm connection that you crave whenever you feel a certain touch, I want to be that rush of adrenaline that envelopes you as you get close enough to the climactic peak of a moment you've never felt before, that heavenly moment when you can't take it anymore, then i want to be the arms that you fall into as you slip into a peaceful sleep, relieved of all that tension; let your guard down, I'll be your wall of protection. I want to be the ship to steer you in the right direction, and if ever you should hit an iceberg and feel like you're about to drown, I'll be the cocoon of oxygen that surrounds you; breathe me into your dreams, i want to be the seams that bind all your emotions together, i want to be your fantasy, your idea of forever, i want to be the roof over your head to shelter you from the rough weather, I want to be the guy that sweeps you off your feet; I want to be the pair of eyes that you suddenly meet in a crowded place, i want to be the face of everything you've ever thought you didn't deserve, the voice of everything they said you couldn't achieve, because the truth is... you can be anything you dare to believe.

"I can still hear your voice in my dreams, but I don’t know if it's the real you. 
So far away but for some reason i can still feel you; I try to close my eyes but it doesn't help, I can still see you.

It's like the sweet smell of your fragrance never ends. it's hard to pretend it's not there because it is, enveloped in the air around me like an invisible mist. 

I still remember the sweetness of our first kiss, 
when time slowed down and I couldn’t hear a single sound, 
had no idea what was happening around me, I was just glad that finally...a piece of happiness found me. 

Waking up in a cold sweat, your memories stick to my skin. I swear some nights my dreams begin with scenes so vivid I feel like i'll lose myself in the past and if I don't relive these moments, I'm afraid that the few	 memories I have left of you won't last, and you'll turn into nothing more than a ghost. 

But of all the time we spent together, it was actually the beginning that I remember the most. 

Because the first time I made you smile, it felt like the warmth of the sun had made its way inside for a while. I mean, I could try forever to compile a list of things to describe it but I'd get lost in a sea of words so deep it'd be hard to keep my head up. The tender warmth of your lips made it hard to resist and even though past relationships had left you in bits and pieces, I promised that I would love you in all your imperfection; the moment your eyes thanked me, I saw myself in their reflection and I realized then that you had let me in where only a few others have been. 

What was once shrouded in darkness suddenly became clear: this was the side of your heart where you'd hidden all that you've ever feared, all that you've ever lost, all the regrets you've buried and all the memories you've forgot, it's all the nights where you've cried so hard it left you breathless, overwhelmed with disappointment and second guesses, I know it's not easy when every step you take reminds you of a past mistake, when every smile you fake hides the pain you wish you could replace with something other than a burden, the most frustrating thing about love is that it can be so uncertain, it's like a leap of faith. 

So brace yourself because you won't always make it, sometimes you gotta fall face first on the pavement to get a taste of failure, but eventually you’ll learn not to fear it..after all, there are few things in this world more resilient than the human spirit. 

And you know what? It's quite a sight; to look forward to a future brimming with life, a future bathed in colours so bright they'll make your heart soar as if heaven itself was right at your feet.

And i'll be waiting for you there, in the meadow where we first heard those hummingbirds singing; their sweet songs always seem to take me back...back to the beginning."

One thing you need to understand right off the bat: I am not a "naturally" talented writer. The beauty that you may find in these poems sometimes comes from places inside me that I hope you never have to find within yourselves. But if you do -or if you have-, perhaps you'll come across some consolation here. The poetry you find here -regardless of topic- is what has helped me to recover and get back on track with my life, and it has invariably shaped the man I am today...I hope it can help you as well. 

For those who may not know, I started the Ryehighproductions channel to share some of my work with only a few select friends and family who had requested that I post some of my poems online. Slowly, and without much intervention on my part, the channel grew quickly and attracted many people from all walks of life.
