Planet Nine is a hypothetical planet in the far outer Solar System. Planet Nine does not have an official name, and it will not receive one unless its existence is confirmed. The predicted planet is most likely a mixture of rock and ice with a small envelope of gas.

Planet Nine is a spectral composition by gamut inc for five automated wind instruments and a hybrid organ of the Logos Foundation – the world´s largest robot-orchestra. The instruments are controlled by computer, but produce the sound acoustically. The woodwinds-ensemble consists of a tuba, a heliophon, a bassoon, an alto-sax and a bass-clarinet. They have filtering modes and pitchbends which allow a deep control of the timbral quality as well as microtonal tunings and glissandi-effects. <Hybr> —a hybrid organ— reflects the discourse of computer-driven music-machines, as it is a link between the acoustic and electronic soundproduction: its tubes are driven by little speakers inside each of the organ ́s tubes, making it a hybrid indeed. 

Planet Nine is written mainly in just intonation and has a fractal structure, where each subdivision of the overall form reflects the main divisions‘ characteristics. For this we use Supercollider´s recurssive semi-automated patterns, that we finally align to our preference. Thus the composition-method is an automat itself.

Robert Lippok has been testing art’s outermost edges for over four decades. His background at the costume department of the German State Opera in Berlin, the studies at the School of Art and Design Berlin-Weissensee, and the pioneering band projects Ornament und Verbrechen (1983) and To Rococo Rot (1995 – 2014) informed a transversal practice spanning from music composition, visual art, stage design, performance and costume design.

Experimenting with a wide range of music technologies, found objects and self-built instruments, Lippok’s pieces – whether an album or an interactive installation – have always transcended mere self-expression to address the role of art as a space-carving and architectural practice. Through the years, his works have been exhibited in the Palais de Tokyo, Neue National Galerie, Hamburger Bahnhof, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Haus der Kunst in Munich, Gropius Bau, and the Athens Biennale amongst others.

Lippok’s ever-present interest in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects catalysed joint ventures with international artists including Doug Aitken, pianist Ludovico Einaudi for an extensive tour, choreographer Constanza Macras , opera director Sebastian Baumgarten, and multimedia artist Julian Charrière.

Known for his long-standing contribution to raster-noton’s catalogue through timeless avant-techno releases, notably “open close open” (2001), “redsuperstructure” (2011), “Applied Autonomy” (2018), Lippok’s live appearances have been presented at worldwide festivals and venues such as ADE, Berghain, CTM, Funkhaus Berlin, MUTEK, Sonar, and Unsound.

Robert Lippok’s dedication to research has engaged him with renowned institutions for creative investigation and education, being part of the curatorial board of the spatial audio system 4DSOUND, a member of the board of trustees of the Spatial Sound Institute Budapest, and a fellow of Olafur Eliasson’s Institut für Raumexperimente in Berlin. From 2017 to 2022, Lippok was a tutor at New York University in Berlin, where he taught the production class “Experiments in the Future of Production and Performance”

Zona Incerta explores the sonic interaction within human/technology networks. They are proper cognitive circuits: wider contexts where creative activity happens. Creativity here is a process of investigation. A series of queries are made to the system in co-response to the process (rather than as a reaction to it). There is no masterplan. This stream of data-exchange generates previously undefined sonic artifacts.

Music is a process, a meditative exercise that dissolves the boundary between the inside and the outside. Boundaries that also can be seen as borders between social and ideological entities like nation states or as an expression of the ego and as an expression of material reality. Through an analysis and fragmentation of contemporary sound snippets, trance emerges, showing that we are in good hands, in a universe without borders.

Veith Michel aka Von Tsotzhousn (modular/electronics) Sound-artist and multidisciplinary video and animation producer/director. In the 90s he was touring through Japan, with his math core band leary, had several other bands untill he started a his soloprojekt in 2017.
