[LESSON FIVE] Explanation of The Three Fundamental Principles – By Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Lesson series at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

9. Readiness to counter the doubts of people of falsehood and desires and be strong in refutation (knowledge, evidence, proofs etc.)

– Shaykh Uthaymeen (رحمه الله) highlights the various methods of how Da’wah is given
– Which method did the Messenger ﷺ utilize the most?

الرابعة: الصبر على الاذى فيه
– The Evidence is the Saying of Allah the Most High: Surah Al-Asr
Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim رحمه الله
– The inevitability of facing trials and what is upon him is patience.
– The obligation of these four matters (that have preceded).
– The importance of the people of Sunnah to be acquainted with the method of following speech with evidence.
– Brief Tafsir of Surah Al-Asr (By Time).
– Everyone from mankind is in a state of loss, except for those who carry out these four matters: seeking knowledge, acting, calling and remaining patient.
– How does the ayah “Those who believe” indicate that a person seeks knowledge?
Shaykh Zayd Madhkhali رحمه الله
– Those who follow the Prophets and Messengers’ call will inevitably face trials similar to the Prophets and it is upon them to remain patient.
– Patience is one of the greatest qualities of Imān and the greatest attribute of the caller.
– The need for the caller to always exercise Patience.
– Patience is needed when calling members of our family.
– The two affairs needed when calling to the Path of Allah.
– Benefit from Ibnul Qayyim رحمه الله regarding the Tafsir of Surah Al-Asr.
– Benefit and advice from Shaykh Rabee: To read the Books of Shaykhul Islam Ibn Tamiyyah and Ibnul Qayyim.
– Tafsir of Surah Al-Asr and a detailed breakdown of the 4 matters in the surah: Knowledge, Action, Calling to it and Remaining Patient.
Shaykh Fawzan حفظه الله 
– The reality of the situation of the caller to Allah is that they will be exposed to harm and evil from people; therefore they have to remain patient and follow the example of the Prophets.
– Examples from the harms and trials the Prophet ﷺ faced during his time calling to Allah and how he dealt with it.
– Examples from the past scholars of the trials and tribulations they faced due to their call to Allah.
– The obligation of the caller to remain patient and to seek His reward.
– Tafsir of Surah Al-Asr: Allah swears by Time.
– A principle: Allah can swear by anything He Wills; however, the creation cannot swear by anyone other than Allah.
– Benefits given of why Allah swears by “Time” itself.

Shaykh Uthaymeen رحمه الله
– Allah reminds the Prophet ﷺ that those before him faced trials and the need to remain patient Surah Al-An’am:34.
– The harder the trial, the closer the aid of Allah is, even though it may not be in your lifetime.
– The fruits of your Da’wah may result after your death.
– Benefit from Surah Al-Insan of calling to Allah will always lead to trials and the requirement for sabr.
– The three categories of patience.

– The Text: So if it said to you: Who is your Lord? Then say: “My Lord is Allah, who has nurtured me and all of creation with His favours and blessings, He is the one whom I worship, and there is no other whom I worship besides Him.” The proof is the Saying of Allah, the Most High: “All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all creation”. Everything besides Allah is a created being and I am one of the creation.

Shaykh Mufti As Sabiq’s Explanation:
– Meaning of the Lord of All Creation.
– Intent behind the meaning of Creation.
– Explanation of “Everything besides Allah is a created being”.

Shaykh Fawzan’s Explanation:
– Everything on the earth is from human beings and creatures, those that live on land or the sea, mighty or small, they all survive off Allah’s Bounties and provisions.
– Allah says: Who can provide for you if He withholds provision from you?
– The essential reason behind the difference between a muwahhid and a mushrik.
– The times that Alhamdulillahi Rabbil aalameen are mentioned, for example when the believers enter Jannah.
– Explanation of Hamd (Praise).
– Explanation of the name of Allah and the impermissibility of naming anyone with Allah.
– The Linguistic usage of Rabb

Shaykh Uthaymin’s Explanation:
– The meaning of tarbiyyah in relation to the Rabb.
– Reflection of the ayah:” If you were to enumerate your blessings you would not be able to”.

– The Text: So if it said to you: How did you arrive at this knowledge of your Lord?” Then say: “Through His signs and those things which He has created; and from his signs are the night and the day, the sun and the moon; and from that which He has created are the seven heavens, and the seven earths, and all those within them, and whatever is between them.”
 
Shaykh Muhammad bin Ibrahīm’s رحمه الله  Explanation:
– Meaning of Ayāt (signs) linguistically.
– Principle: Every single sign of Allah and His creation is a proof and indication of the oneness of Allah.
– The types of signs: Universal Signs and examples.
– Explanation of the signs: night and day, sun and the moon showing that Allah is the Originator and the Creator.
Shaykh Fawzan’s حفظه الله explanation:
– Everything that we see in existence of the creation was at one time not in existence and Allah originated it.
– No one from the creation created it and no one would dare to claim to be the creator.
– Allah says: Verily! Those on whom you call besides Allah, cannot create (even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. Surah Hajj: 73
– The categories of Ayāt (signs) that show the existence and perfection of Allah indicating that He deserves to be worshipped:
1) Universal signs that can be seen
2) The verses from the Qur’an
3) Miracles of the Prophets
– What do these signs indicate and their comprehensive benefits.

Question: How do we give da’wah to non-Muslims and non-Salafi family?

Lesson 14 - The Book of Purification & Prayer from Manhaj as-Salikin

 • Started with the virtues of ʿAbdullāh Ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه)
 • Covered the narration of Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī and Ibn Masʿūd: — “How many people intend good but never reach it”
 • Highlighted evidence from the Qur’ān and Sunnah showing the completeness of the religion — no need for additions  “This day I have perfected for you your religion…” (Sūrah al-Mā’idah 5:3)’
  • Virtues of the Khulafā’ al-Rāshidīn (the four rightly guided caliphs)
 • Importance of clinging to the understanding of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥīn
 • Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr on the verse: —  “This is My straight path, so follow it” (al-Anʿām 6:153)
 • Hadith of the 73 sects and its variations and its different chains - Linked with Ibn Masʿūd’s narration: “The Jamāʿah is what conforms with the truth, even if you are alone”
• Danger of bid'ah (innovation) and how it is more severe than committing major sins - to the exent that the Prophet ﷺ warned against it even before it appeared.
• The importance of Tawheed and the precise wording found in the sunnah and the Quran.  Example, Surah Maryam ayah 65
 "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him?" 
• How this verse beautifully encompasses all three categories of Tawḥīd: 
 1. Tawḥīd al-Rubūbiyyah – “Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them…”
 2. Tawḥīd al-Ulūhiyyah – “so worship Him (Alone)…”
 3. Tawḥīd al-Asmā’ wa’l-Ṣifāt – “Do you know of any who is similar to Him?” (denial of likeness to His names or attributes)
• Shaykh ʿAbdullāh Lahmāmī (ḥafiẓahullāh) concluded the lesson by mentioning 20 characteristics that distinguish the people of Sunnah from the groups of misguidance.
