[03/01/2025] Patience Upon The Pre-Decree That Causes Distress - By Abu Khadeejah ‘Abdul Wāḥid حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

– {No calamity befalls, but with the Leave [i.e. decision and Qadar (Divine Preordainments)] of Allah, and whosoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart [to the true Faith with certainty, i.e. what has befallen him was already written for him by Allah from the Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], and Allah is the All-Knower of everything} [Surah At-Taghabun (64): 11]
– The believer knows that the calamity is from Allah and He guides his heart.
– Statement from early Salaf explaining the above points.
– The two types of people that have traits of kufr.
– Ahadīth showing how Allah trials a person and hastens the punishment in this world instead of punishment in the hereafter.
– Greatness of reward is in accordance to the greatness of trial.
– Having patience in Allah’s decree is a sign of a person having iman in Allah.
– Decrees are divided into two categories​.
– {No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allāh} [Surah Al-Hadid (57):22]
– The statement of the believer during calamities: All praise is due to Allah in every condition.
– Ahādith showing when the decrees were written and the correct understanding of decrees.
– The believer is pleased with the decree of Allah, even if it is painful.
– The calamities that are due to our own disobedience – major sins and the continuous minor sins.
– How we can wipe out the major sins and minor sins.
– Types of Major sins.
– Not permissible to use pre-decree as an excuse for sinning – rather we are commanded to worship and obey Allah.
– Be patient upon the calamities that occur due to pure decree.
– Repent to Allah due to calamities that occur due to your disobedience and sin.
– Being patient upon the loss of a child and the rewards that will be received.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

– Favour of reaching the end of this blessed month of Ramadān.

– Reflect on what has preceded from this blessed month and reflect on the achievement of your goals.

– Ensure you leave Ramadān stronger than when you entered it.

– The real test begins when Ramadān has ended and the shayāteen are unshackled – how will we behave?

– Continue with the righteous actions outside of Ramadān.

– The virtues of fasting the six days of Shawwāl.

– The rewards of praying Qiyām.

– The excellence of giving charity.

– The benefits of reciting the Qur’an.

– Virtues of Friday and within it there is an hour wherein the dua is granted.

– The importance of having taqwa as this is the key to acceptance of our actions.

– Explanation of the ayah: {And those who give that (their charity) which they give (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities, etc., have been accepted or not), because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning)} [Surah Al-Mu’minoon (23): 60].

- A lofty characteristic the servant should adorn himself with.
- “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer verily, to him We will give a good life..” [Sūrah an-Naḥl 16:97]
- Imām aṭ-Ṭabarī (رحمه الله) on how to obtain the “good life” mentioned in the āyah.
- A tremendous du’ā the Messenger ﷺ instructed his Companions (رضى الله عنهم) to say.

- A ḥadīth that illustrates the son of Ādam’s insatiable desire for wealth.
- An example of the contentment of the Messenger ﷺ and how he was pleased with the little he had.
- That which caused ‘Umar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (رضى الله عنه) to cry when he entered upon the Messenger ﷺ, and how the Messenger ﷺ consoled him.
- Five golden pieces of advice given to Abū Hurayrah (رضى الله عنه) by the Messenger ﷺ.
- True richness.
