For this first episode of Holding hands we are hearing the voice of Salma.
Salma aka FunkyKid (she/her) is Tunisian and Berlin-based producer/DJ. Her music flows between fluffy hard trance, fast techno, hardgroove and hypnotic rhythms. She is a resident at Voices Radio (UK) and part of Eclat Crew Collective in Berlin. She also co-founded Rush Berlin, a video project showcasing underrepresented DJs in Berlin and beyond.

Due to technical issues during the recording, my mic was off all along the interview. To still enjoy Salma's answers with a bit of context I created a little voice over in post editing.

YA Z AN presents "Nijmet el Sama" a new single released as part of the Culture 3.0 project, a dub techno exploration at the intersection of musical research and Web 3.0 space. The track is shaped by data gathered from a survey conducted with musicians and producers, influencing the creative process behind the production.

At the core of "Nijmet el Sama" is a field recording captured in Bethlehem, Palestine, during a drive through the landscape between Palestinian towns and illegal Israeli settlements. The AM radio unpredictably switch between a Palestinian news channel, religious broadcasts, and fragmented Hebrew channel- all distorted by interference of an AM radio struggling between frequencies. Through sonification, the survey data was transformed into MIDI notes that control a granular synthesizer, turning this raw recording into atmospheric drones. These textures are layered with hypnotic dub techno drums, pads, and stabs, crafting a deep, immersive soundscape.
