Our Nr. 233 today comes from a DJ and producer I've been following for a very long time. His sound had already fascinated me at that time, because it simply could not be put into a certain pigeonhole. A feature that fascinates me anew. But often only at 2nd glance. So also with Xavier, a Brazilian from the musical house of @voodoohop. A characteristic that goes hand in hand with his sound.

The set recorded by them is a delightfully 'afterhouresque' journey into the thicket of discreetly melodic, playful and sometimes trippy electronic music. Enriched with a lot of instrumental passages, which again give the whole thing a more organic charm.
I was actually completely flashed the first time I heard the set, although I was secretly expecting such a sound after all. Still, it surprised me. That's always the great thing about his music. You have a hunch at first, then you start to doubt whether you were actually wrong, and in the end you sit in your chair with your headphones on your ears, flabbergasted. Always ingenious, when the artists with so much attention to detail to the thing approach and create something completely unique. Namely his afterhour sound. That this is unfortunately no longer a matter of course today, does not need to be said at this point.
All the more it makes me / us happy that we could win Xavier with a set. And that shortly before the release of his debut album.

Fasten your seatbelts... I can only repeat myself, but you can expect a journey through playful and hypnotic fields, which are made for an afterhour....seem excited.

Unsere Nr. 233 kommt heute von einem DJ und Producer, den ich schon seit einer sehr langen Zeit folge. Sein Sound hatte mich damals bereits fasziniert, da sie sich einfach nicht in eine bestimmte Schublade packen lies. Ein Merkmal, dass mich aufs Neue fasziniert. Oft aber erst auf den 2. Blick. So auch bei Xavier, einem Brasilianer aus dem musikalischen Hause von https://soundcloud.com/voodoohop. Ein Prädikatsmerkmal dass mit seinem Sound Hand in Hand geht.

Das von Ihnen eingespielte Set ist eine herrlich ‚afterhoureske‘ Reise ins Dickicht der dezent melodischen, verspielten und teils auch trippigen elektronischen Musik. Angereichert mit einer Menge an Instrumentalpassagen, die dem Ganzen nochmal einen organischeren Charme verleihen.
Ich war beim ersten Hören des Sets tatsächlich komplett geflasht, obwohl ich im Geheimen doch einen solchen Sound erwartet habe. Dennoch überraschte es mich. Das ist immer das Tolle an seiner Musik. Man hat zunächst eine Ahnung, dann gerät man ins Zweifeln ob man sich doch tatsächlich geirrt hat und am Ende sitzt man verblüfft im Sessel mit seinen Kopfhörern auf den Ohren. Immer wieder genial, wenn die Künstler mit so viel Liebe zum Detail an die Sache rangehen und etwas vollkommen Einzigartiges erschaffen. Nämlich seinem Afterhour Sound. Dass das heute leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr ist, muss an dieser Stelle nicht gesagt werden.
Umso mehr freut es mich / uns, dass wir Xavier mit einem Set gewinnen konnten. Und das kurz vor Veröffentlichung seines Debutalbums.

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise durch verspielte und hypnothische Felder, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour sind….seid gespannt.

On a full moon day, the little witch attended the very first coven of her whole life, in the company of two elder witches.  It had been such an intense day filled with mystic ceremonies, that she didn’t notice the sun going down and the light slowly fading.  At that moment, the eldest witch showed the way to a nearby small hill.  On the top of the mound, they found 3 small rocks with a worn-out flat top surface.  The 3 women took a seat on the rocks and the young girl sensed that these rock-chairs were already being used for centuries.  They watched in silence as the sun turned red and slowly disappeared behind the horizon.  At that point the old witch pointed into the other direction, and they all watched the breathtaking spectacle of the full moon rising gloriously above the south-eastern sky, while a couple of little bats were circling swiftly above their heads.  The young girl had never seen such a beautiful moon, brighter and more yellow than she had ever seen before while the planet mars was shining brightly in the southern sky with an unusually intense red hue.  After gazing at the sky for a few minutes and being completely absorbed by this celestial spectacle, the novice looked at the 2 other witches and to her surprise they were looking at her instead of observing the moon… and they smiled tenderly.  The youngest witch became a bit shy when she noticed all this attention, while at the same time she sensed that the elder witches were thinking back at their own first night at this very spot.  After this brief intermezzo, the 3 women resumed their observation of the moon.  For a few seconds, the full moon disappeared behind a small cloud.  And just at that moment, a small glowing ball appeared, just a few centimeters across and floating in the air.  If the witches would have stretched out their arms, they would have been able to touch it.  But just at that moment, the moon appeared again in the sky and the little ball disappeared into thin air.  A few minutes later another cloud obscured the moon and the little ball appeared again, bigger than the first time and looking like an exact copy of the moon, with the same soft yellow color.  While the young witch looked at it with big eyes, the old witch stretched out her arm, with the tip of her fingers just a few inches away from the glowing little moon.  The little witch did the same and held her open hands around the glowing object without touching it.  The girl had never felt anything like that before, it was a surprisingly pleasant tingling feeling while her hands captured the subtle energy of the floating object.  The girl felt how the energy gradually became stronger and at one point the symbols on the palms of her hands (which the other witches had painted on her body earlier that day) started to glow in the same soft yellow hue as the moon itself.  And the energy kept on spreading as the symbols on her arms and shoulders started to glow too, and finally all the mystic symbols all over her body started to glow, even the ones on her feet.  Strangely, not all symbols lighted up in yellow as some of them had a faint red glow, just like the planet mars which accompanied the moon on that night…

2020 has been an eye opening year, revealing many things about our friends, family, and ourselves. One such thing I've noticed is how we all live in our own little bubbles.  All our connections, people we associate with, brands and companies we like and follow on social media, everything so rapidly consumed and absorbed day in and day out, it is only now in confinement where I've become more aware of this....

On a semi-related side note,  I'm a huge basketball fan. Any of my close friends would know this, so I've been ecstatic that the NBA has returned. Each player is living inside a literal bubble give the Pandemic. This basketball bubble has had my full attention these last 2 weeks... so I found it quite funny and a fantastic coincidence that a fellow DJ and Tony @aka_tony came to me with a LOST mix idea with the theme of "BUBBLES," Soap bubbles to be exact.  Thomas Williams alias @aka_tony started out as a DJ in Switzerland in the last century. I discovered him since he's played a few of my tracks in his mixes (thanks bud).  Since 2018 he spreads love and nice tunes as a resident at Radio GDS.FM in Zurich, where he has his own broadcasting slot. With Aka-Tapes Thomas runs his own podcast blog on Soundcloud. In the last couple of months he has crafted various podcasts for different channels around the globe. 

I was curious, so I asked him, how did this theme originate? His response was:

"After an eventful, beautiful and challenging decade in which people seemed to have found peace, determination and clarity, the situation changed abruptly. Almost from one day to the next, uncertainty, great challenges and suspicion returned. Everything and anything was questioned and the most adventurous theories made the rounds. People soon no longer knew who was friend or foe. Information was interpreted in a way that always protected their own interests. Objectivity and attentiveness were lost. To deal with this situation, creative people discovered the concept of the soap bubble. Soap bubbles with which one could wrap all the abstruse theories and theorists and gently send them on a journey of knowledge. So they discovered that the earth was not a flat disk after all and said also goodbye to many other absurd theories. So if you are desperate about all the uncertainties that will challenge you in the present and the near future, this mix will help you to wrap gruesome ideas and concepts into a soap bubble and send them on the much needed journey of knowledge."
