Streetsleeper is the sixth single by Scottish singer-songwriter Samuel Alexander Barbour released on the 30th November, 2019. 

Based in Hong Kong since 2007, Samuel has built up a successful career as an experienced and well respected primary English school teacher. He combines his love of writing original songs & stories with his love of teaching youngsters and thus far the results have been far several award-winning school drama productions and children's songs and a lifetime of happy memories!

Most recently in October, 2019, Samuel won the Best Children's Song Award at the Clouzine International Music Awards for his Peter-Pan inspired debut single, Far Across the Night Sky. The song also reached number #37 on the top 40 chart of April's Scottish New Music Global Chart. The title track of his debut 5-song EP, Hope (Love Never Dies) also reached number #32 in the November, 2019 chart respectively.

Since the release of the EP on the 8th March, 2019, all five songs have received over 80 individual radio airplays across the world from Hong Kong to Scotland, England, Canada, South Africa, Australia & the USA respectively

Samuel wrote Streetsleeper heavily influenced by seeing homeless people firsthand whilst travelling in the UK, Australia and Hong Kong and was moved to try to write a song for the 'people with no voice' without any bias or prejudice towards them or their situation. Influences include Gerry Rafferty, James Taylor, Paul Simon & Ralph McTell. 

Streetsleeper was written in February 2019, recorded in Scotland in August, 2019 and was released on the 30th November on CDBaby and all other major digital distributors. Produced by good friend Stephen Bull & mastered by Pete Maher.  100% of any sales/streams proceeds from this track will be split 50/50 between two registered charities for the homeless: The Social Bite & ImpactHK. I really hope that you can purchase the song for this good cause. Together we can eradicate the awful disease of homelessness affecting millions of people across the world each day and night. 

I am also delighted to announce that I performed Streetsleeper & Caledonia Dreaming live at The World’s Big Sleep Out at Central Harbourfront, Hong Kong on the 7th December, 2019. (My birthday!) It was an amazing experience and I was truly humbled to take part. 

Streetsleeper also reached #34 on the top 40 chart of December’s Scottish New Music Global Chart (SNMGC) which I was delighted about. Since its release, it has also had notable airplay in the UK, USA, Australia & South Africa including on Jim Gellatly’s Amazing Radio Sunday Show among others.

"People Would Say" was just a couple words, an idea, when I finished up last years album so consider it an "other song" for purposes of this release! A conversation with a friend about finding music so late in my life led to this song. I should have finished it sooner, it's a personal favorite!

"I Was Small" is an "alternate" version of a song I released in 2018 (When I was Small). I felt this song needed to be be much more stripped down than the version I originally released and this was the result. It was much more a recording exercise than anything else so it never made last years album.

I am available for face-to-face school (Primary & Secondary) workshops for students & teachers alike schools in Hong Kong on how to integrate The Litter Bug into the English curriculum.

The Teacher Ham YouTube channel was set up in earnest in March, 2013 as a way to share my resources with students in Hong Kong and around the world. As of March, 2024, it had collected over 3.65 million views, 14,500 subscribers & 344 videos. It is truly humbling and inspiring when I think that through sharing my simple resources, I am able to help students in all corners of the world improve their skills and interest in learning English and for that I feel privileged and honoured. Thank you.

MUSIC:
Teacher Ham (Sam Barbour Music) is also an award-winning songwriter. His music has been played on radio stations in 27 countries (6 continents) including the BBC & Amazing Radio. He has performed his music live on both TV & Radio in Hong Kong (RTHK & The Works) and in the UK and has conducted radio interviews with stations around the world. He has both won and been nominated for numerous songwriting awards with different associations including the ISC (International Songwriting Competition), ISSA, The Josie Awards and the UK Songwriting Competition respectively to name a few. My podcast - A Light in the Dark: My Songwriting Journey has now amassed over 500 downloads and is now in its second season.

Teacher Ham also acts as an education consultant and is always happy to offer free advice via email to fellow educators, schools and students anywhere in the world about teaching and/or learning English. I have learned so much from my fellow educators and students and am only too happy to pass this information on. When learning English, one must try to be brave enough to speak, make mistakes and keep learning.
