FROM BAGSHOT TO SILBURY HILL

A mix by Andrew Weatherall inspired by the new book 'Psychedelia and Other Colours' by Rob Chapman, published on September 3 2015 by Faber & Faber. The book features an introduction from Andrew Weatherall.

Andrew on the mix:

"Deadlines were passing and and I needed a kick up the arse, but with an army of psychic skeletons waiting to surge across synapses should they be lysergically fired, going "gonzo" was not an option when I found myself lacking Caliope's influence. I needed to get back on the bus but knew that the cost of a ticket was one I was unwilling to pay.My sanity is priceless. I needed a "madeleine moment" but tea and cake wasn't going to cut it. Casting my mind back to my first trip I remembered a good part of it was spent on a large Victorian brass bed listening to the static between stations on a transistor radio.I heard my own internal soundtrack, music made of ether and electricity. It was then it struck me. A sonic key was required. After some hours spent in the bunker's research library I compiled a collection of music that crackled and fizzed within a nebulous fog. Static charges mirroring synaptic fireworks. On mixing and playing the result was immediate. The foreword was written."

'From Bagshot To Silbury Hill' - A Mix by Andrew Weatherall

Amnesia '86: 
Straight, gay, bi-sexual, young, old, black, white, brown, trendy, hippie.. such a diverse mixture of people had never been seen under the same roof( or lack of roof rather). The common denominator that bound it all together- the music…as provided by DJ Alfredo Fiorito. 

Of course, in those days, and before the House Revolution took place, the soundtrack to any club was on the whole much more varied... On your average night, you’d be as likely to hear salsa as rock and roll, Bob Marley as Luccio, Madonna or Tears for Fears. One could describe it as a total Mumbo Jumbo, a mad medley of all that was, indeed, is, great music straining up and out of the club and into the sky above. Throughout those first two years the reputation of the club and its sound grew not only on the island but also internationally. 

Amnesia soon became the best after club in the world. The crowd grew weekly, transferring their socializing from Ku (now known as Privilege) to Amnesia to form an intrinsic part of never before witnessed scenes of wild and carefree fun in the sun- glasses on, dancing in the sunny open air terrace that became the legend we all know today. 

To celebrate this, the next Sameheads C60 tape cassette release will be a special, as yet unheard live Dj mix recorded at Amnesia during Alfredo's early years there. This will be available to buy at the door and the Sameheads shop thereafter.

A very special 40th episode showcases arguably one of the best triple packs every released, especially considering it was relatively early in the timeline of mix cd history (1996). It features selections from Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall and Back to Basic's resident, Ralph Lawson.

We originally featured this CD in the early days of The Classic Mix CD Series, when it was recommended by Shindig's Scott Bradford as his most influential piece in his collection.

So it's fitting, that after more shouts out to use it from everyone on Facebook, that we feature all 3 discs for the 400th episode celebration. Thanks to everyone for getting involved all of the plays and positive messages.
