Brisbane’s self-professed ‘gentlemen of rock’ Tape/Off are FINALLY putting out their album. Chipper is a homage to the ton of do-what-feels-right independent guitar music they grew up listening to. There’s everything from Slint and Fugazi to Sandpit and Archers Of Loaf. But, as much as you can hear all of it seeping through, ‘Chipper’ is thoroughly an album about living in Brisbane in 2014 – the anxiety, the lethargy, the grasp for meaning and the sunstroke. The album includes Benjamin Thompson from The Rational Academy/Pale Earth playing Trumpet & Saxophone on ‘Pedestal Fan’, and Tom Lyngcoln from Harmony/The Nation Blue lending his voice to ‘Climates’. A time capsule for dapper dreamers.
