The track is called Zulu, and I’m trying to not only capture the essence of hip hop, but where hip hop started, in the streets of Brooklyn with Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation. They tried to get the gang members off the streets, to stop moving drugs and to stop the gang life, and unite them through music. It seems nowadays in EDM we have lost sight of that, as the drugs are a huge part of the music scene and are getting kids into trouble, even causing a few deaths here and there. To me, it feels like EDM has lost touch with its roots, like hip hop has lost touch with why it started. And I’m hoping that this track, especially the bars that will be rapped over this track, will catch that essence again and revitalize some form of the original thinking that was put into raves and hip hop shows when they first started.
