"I am a migrant and a survivor of violence, and I have the privilege to host this podcast. I will guide the conversation with questions and share my own thoughts. Around this table we have two women ready and willing to share their thoughts."

In the SARAH-podcast series migrant women discuss gender-based violence, and encourage others to speak up. In each of the podcasts (one in Arabic, Farsi, Somali and English) different marvelous women share their thoughts.

The European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control (HEUNI), affiliated with the United Nations, is the European link in the network of institutes operating within the framework of the United Nations crime prevention and criminal justice programme.

HEUNI was established through an agreement between the United Nations and the Government of Finland in 1981, and in this 40th anniversary podcast series you have the chance to listen to interesting guests and hot topics related to HEUNI's partners and strategy. 

Our guest in this episode is Dr Rick Brown, the Deputy Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology. He has been a criminologist for 30 years and has worked extensively on issues associated with crime prevention, community safety and policing in Australia, the UK and Republic of Ireland. Rick has published over 60 government reports, book chapters and journal articles on a range of issues including antisocial behaviour, arson, burglary, CCTV, community justice, drink driving, implementing crime prevention, organised crime, policing and vehicle crime. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Community Safety, the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Journal and the Security Journal.

The SARAH project will raise awareness on gender-based violence and on victims’ rights among migrant populations, and awareness of the challenges migrant populations face in accessing victim support services among policy-makers in 4 EU Member States, and develop tools to improve access to victim support services for migrant women victims of gender-based violence.

The project activities take place in 4 EU Member States: Germany, Greece, Finland and Italy. The project is coordinated by HEUNI, and other partners are Greek Council for Refugees (GCR), SOLWODI Deutschland e.V, Italian Refugee Council (CIR) and Setlementti Puijola in Finland.
