Meaning:
“I wrote “Drown” about the voices in my head. My internal conflict that seeks release in the moments most chaotic. Almost like how candles burn brightest in the moments just before they burn out. As the song progresses, I try to confront “the voices” only to realize that in the end, we will only drown together.”

  Sterling’s music is made to connect with people. Through the tonally beautiful soundscape of his voice accompanied by gorgeous instrumentation, he is able to transport his listeners to the heart of every song. Drawing from personal experiences mended with inspirational gatherings, Sterling’s lyrics are very moving and emotionally driven. To list a few of his most adorned inspirations, it comes to no surprise that he draws the emotional connection from artists: Matt Corby, John Bellion, and Dermot Kennedy in his music.

Sometimes a band’s sound and their hometown are inextricable, so tied together that it’s impossible to imagine them being from anywhere else. So it is with The Shelters and Los Angeles, a quartet filled with the swagger of Hollywood stars. It’s as if the Laurel Canyon harmonies of the 1970s spent the glam rock ‘80s in The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip before getting a 2015 update in Silverlake.
