When we think of groups and the people that form them, one of the main aspects of its cohesiveness is the existence of a jargon, an internal lexicon or a set of words that distinguishes its members and bonds them around common ideas and practices. Thus, no name is bestowed or concocted without an internal intention and an external connection, relating the experience of those who are a part of it with the world at large. For instance, the widespread usage of “digging” among the people obsessed with finding records as a term to define what they do is not gratuitous, it has bearing on the very reality that makes this act so similar to that of scavenging for precious materials. After all, both types of “diggers” go to great lengths and cover huge distances in order to unearth what they call a “gem”: something rare or simply worthy of the time and effort invested in its discovery. Noble undertakings in their own right that take specific talents and provide special rewards to those willing to partake, although with very different objects driving the passion of those involved. This sense of purpose is shared by all of our guests and turned into a sense of mission by a few explorers who are as adventurous as they are generous. And such is the exemplary case of the selector we gladly welcome in this episode, a voracious music lover who weaponised his tastes towards becoming a gifted rhythmic curator and a prolific dance instigator. However, dubbing Mario Goldengoat a proficient digger, as much as he is one of the most talented at this essential job, would only tell half the tale. His prowess can be fully appreciated whe he assembles his finds in carefully crafted mixes that put all of their individual beauty in irresistible evidence, which is exactly what we have here.
