Unison Performance Tracks

Based out of Portland, Oregan, the producer and multi-instrumentalist Devin Kroes has spent the last six years and counting tapping into a variety of psybient styles across a choice collection of tracks. Ahead of his Breathe EP release through the Danktronics platform, the Rust was given the opportunity to premiere the effusive track “Bloom”, featuring the soul-drenched sax lines of ST4RFOX.

Wielding a pristine level of clarity and tonal balance, Kroes dances between lush vocal samples and vibrant layers of synthesis. Each passing phrase paints the next hue across the landscape of the song, building on additive arrangements and fleshing out the literal breath of the track. At high point of the musical narrative, ST4RFOX breaks into a spirited saxophone run that ties off “Bloom” with a proper resolution, leaving the track to fade out between ripples of waning chords. This new collaboration comes in such perfect timing. It is an original collaboration with Ruby Chase and Equanimous - two new friends that I met in Guatemala. We had a beautiful session in my studio there that resulted in the foundation for this track. It was so much fun to work with these guys because the creativity is just oozing out of them. Equanimous offered instrumentation through his incredibly talented keyboard skills in addition to percussion. Ruby channeled these powerful vocals that Equanimous and I both offered feedback to refine the flow and land something clear and impactful. The main lyrics are also complimented by Ruby’s light language that came out intuitively during our recording process.

Over the last few years, Savej has been deeply connected and inspired by the 'Kuya Sessions' as they were being crafted by Poranguí & Liquid Bloom. When they asked him to remix ‘Feathered Serpent’, he was thrilled to be able to rework these historic medicine soundscapes. Utilizing his signature alchemy of cutting edge production techniques with the intention of dissolving stylistic boundaries, Savej has created a magnificent blend of ancient future ceremonial bass music. Listeners will quickly discover that this remix of ‘Feathered Serpent’ is both a primal and mystical journey that bridges the original’s inward connection to Spirit with the outward expression of embodied dance.

This tune is about the wild spirit and the ancient jungle.
