What If 2025

I sit at the bottom of a blood moon sky
Staring at the stars both fixed and falling 
I wonder
Maybe even aloud
If this is all there is down here?

These thoughts are not new to me
I have thought them all my life
But I cannot seem to give them  a name  

But If I did
It would be high and unpronounceable
Spoken in a tongue known only by me

Written with letters full of music
Scrawled in all the margins
On every single page of my 
Book of Longing

Sometimes in a delicate script
Beautiful and deft of hand
Sometimes etched so deep
the pages bleed and beg for mercy
 mercy

Maybe the wind could answer by  
Threading knowing and 
blowing it through my bare 
and broken branches.

Maybe the Sun can answer 
in its final burst of color
as it sinks beneath the horizon 
Does he know ?
I don't know
but he took my questions  with him 
when he went down

The moon is giving me comfort  
that everything will be ok...
 with her long gentle silver fingers
on the oceans face

Maybe the stars are the only ones 
that know for sure
They will lead me to the truth
 If I allow them to

The North Star whispers to me 
he has spoken with the Creator
He insisted I must do the same

 I did as the North Star asked
and I waited
and I waited


The Lion sent word
through the Comforter

He said tell her
I have read every single page
in her Book of Longing

You say you've got demons deep in your head
is that so? 
They won't leave you alone
Let's invite them to lunch lets break some bread
Sit down at the table, let's examine the fables and lies they said

why they wanted to cause you such pain

About this track

From the 1970 album “Confusion” By Big Brother Ernie Joseph
That features the the ever talented Orosco Brothers Ernie, Cory, and Brian.
It was recorded in Los Angeles California at Night City Recording Studio.
The studio featured a state of art 1/2 inch 4 track tape recorder.
The album was released on Uni records in LA, an unknown number of vinyl records were pressed.
It was produced By John Holmes  who also produced the Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Big Brother Ernie Joseph toured across the United States including the historic Love Valley Music Festival in 1970, headlined by the Allman Brothers Band. The Love Valley concert in South Carolina became known as "The Birthplace of Southern Rock”, and drew a crowd of 200,000 people. The band was interrupted by the Viet Nam war as members were drafted into the service.

Heart full of rain

Friday night, she locks the office door
heads home up the 405
Staring at red tail lights, like a crimson tide
Playing footsie with the gas and brake
She thinks to herself.
How much more of this, can a girl take?

She's barely in the door
kicks her shoes off, 
picks the mail up off the floor
She already knows
what bills she can't afford
with a heavy sigh, she wants to cry

Ohhhhhh oooooooooooooooooo

She checks the message on her phone
"Hey girl, are you coming out tonight "?
She knows she should say no
She knows she should stay home 
and save some money, 
she doesn't have a lot
so, she texts back..."probably not"

Ohhh

But she's feeling restless
Maybe even a little reckless
she's gonna go 
She thought it through 
Because this is what the cool girls do

While she does her make up
She has a couple of glasses of wine
takes her pen takes a hit
that should do it ...

She draws smokey eyes, lips stained in Tom Ford,  
blush from Sephora, heads towards the door
grabs her Birkin bag, the one she couldn't afford 
and slips on her Jimmy Choo's
because this is what the cool girls do

Driving East on Sunset
freedom doesn't feel so far away 
her front seat is her confessional 
She doesn't have to be professional
She can say what she thinks, if she's feeling off kilter
She doesn't have to use a filter
she looks in the mirror and says, 
I confess...'I know I'm a little high,
I'm just trying to get by '

10:45 she's on the dance floor
what she was worried about  
She's not worried about it anymore
She gets lost in the music 
She's flying high above the clouds
She doesn't want to come down 
In her view
This is what the cool girls do

Driving West on Sunset
freedom feels so far away 
her front seat is her confessional 
She doesn't have to be professional
She can just say what she thinks, if she's feeling off kilter
She doesn't have to use a filter
she looks in the mirror and says, 
I confess.....' I know, I'm a bit of a mess'

TWO AM...she heads back home up the 405

What The Cool Girls Do

The bailiff says...ALL RISE

The Judge sits down
He's dressed in black
A woman on the stand
She's got a wedding band 
on her left hand

He says to the courtroom, take a seat
Nods to the woman, says Ma'am,
 you may proceed

Her lawyer is on fire

He layed it all out bare
he argued all of the ways her husband didn't care
Juror number 4 is thinking about now
Even God knows, he doesn't have a prayer....

He says...
This woman you married
She stands before me now
she says you disappeared her dreams
She testified, you took a knife to her dreams 
that does sound a little extreme 
but now, she wants to make you bleed

He says, sir...
Your word is your bond, 
How do you plead
How do you respond?

The jury's starin' him down
sweat running down his back
He's trying to put a lid on an anxiety attack
it's hard to make up an excuse
when deep down he knows the truth 
he knows, he knows...

He simply says...In my defense,
 I have no defense 
I'm guilty, guilty as a man can be

The Judge says,  "Im taking in to account,
 all of her dreams that died at your hand,  as the law demands
Son,  you used a knife
I'm going to have to sentence you to life"


The judge bangs the gavel
And the courtroom is rattled

the courtroom goes dark

He walks out and slams the door
