Friday night, she locks the office door
heads home up the 405
Staring at red tail lights, like a crimson tide
Playing footsie with the gas and brake
She thinks to herself.
How much more of this, can a girl take?

She's barely in the door
kicks her shoes off, 
picks the mail up off the floor
She already knows
what bills she can't afford
with a heavy sigh, she wants to cry

She checks the message on her phone
"Hey girl, are you coming out tonight "?
She knows she should say no
She knows she should stay home 
and save some money, 
she doesn't have a lot
so, she texts back..."probably not"

But she's feeling restless
Maybe even a little reckless
she's gonna go 
She thought it through

While she does her make up
She has a couple of glasses of wine
takes her pen takes a hit

blush from Sephora, heads towards the door
grabs her Birkin bag, the one she couldn't afford 
and slips on her Jimmy Choo's
because this is what the cool girls do

Driving East on Sunset
freedom doesn't feel so far away 
her front seat is her confessional 
She doesn't have to be professional
She can say what she thinks, if she's feeling off kilter
She doesn't have to use a filter
she looks in the mirror and says, 
I confess...'I know I'm a little high,
I'm just trying to get by '

10:45 she's on the dance floor
what she was worried about  
She's not worried about it anymore
She gets lost in the music 
She's flying high above the clouds
She doesn't want to come down 
In her view

freedom feels so far away 
her front seat is her confessional

The bailiff says...ALL RISE

The Judge sits down
He's dressed in black
A woman on the stand
She's got a wedding band 
on her left hand

He says to the courtroom, take a seat

Her lawyer is on fire

He layed it all out bare
he argued all of the ways her husband didn't care
Juror number 4 is thinking about now
Even God knows, he doesn't have a prayer....

He says...

She stands before me now
she says you disappeared her dreams
She testified, you took a knife to her dreams 
that does sound a little extreme 
but now, she wants to make you bleed

He says, sir...
Your word is your bond, 
How do you plead
How do you respond?

The jury's starin' him down
sweat running down his back
He's trying to put a lid on an anxiety attack
it's hard to make up an excuse
when deep down he knows the truth 
he knows, he knows...

He simply says...In my defense,
 I have no defense

At heart, I  am an emotionally honest, lyrically driven storyteller. I  love the written word. I love wrapping music around words in a musical story that is flavored with Indie, folk, country, classic rock,  jazz, blues, ballads anthems.
