Welcome to B-Town! Since our inception almost two years ago we’ve been playing and writing music together as a trio to develop a sound with an emphasis on groove, tunefulness, improvisation and fun. Our diverse musical backgrounds are rooted in jazz, funk, and Latin. If you’re in the W.MA area and want to know where we’re playing next, check out our website below. Sol & Kiel’s music is a highly crafted space in which song, instrumental composition, and improvisation coexist. Roaming through various musical landscapes, the ensemble performs on acoustic instruments from all over the world including Malian balafon, Navajo flute, Ugandan adungu, and a plethora of percussion instruments. The group also draws heavily from western folk traditions including avant-garde jazz, fiddle music, and American songcraft. 

Sol & Kiel strongly believe that music exists to serve something greater than itself. As a modest gesture in this regard, they have partnered with the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter in Boston. When performing locally, Sol & Kiel not only speak about the organization and hand out pamphlets at their shows, but also give the net proceeds from their EP “There Is No Easy Way From the Earth to the Stars” to Pine Street.

The Record Machine is a pioneering homegrown independent record label based in Kansas City, Missouri. The label was founded in 2003 when we released our first record for the James Dean Trio. In the 11 years since then we have worked with bands from all over the United States. Our current roster is Chambers, Stolen Nations, Ghastly Menace, Cowboy Indian Bear, La Guerre, Little Legend, Max Justus, The Noise FM, Palace, Spirit Is The Spirit, Soft Reeds, and State Bird. Our goal is to make an organic community of artists and help connect them with listeners. Tim Finn of The Kansas City Star remarked about The Record Machine’s output “[They] have assembled a stable of diverse artists who are making music that deserves national attention.”
