Our latest episode today comes from the two Belgians and storytelling masterminds https://soundcloud.com/dauwmuziek and https://soundcloud.com/schemering, who are always good for a surprise with their very special but mega fascinating sound. 

Their podcast recorded for us is a journey to the deepest inner self. A path that shows you places you have long forgotten. Or places and experiences that you like to remember. Like special moments at the festival, for example. Pleasant temperatures, music that invites you to dream, loving people around you...yes, that is one of many recipes that puts you into a kind of active hypnosis without detours. Together with the music, a smile on your face and closed eyes you drift off into another world. A world of positivity and lightness. 

That's exactly how it feels when we listen to the two DJs. Their art is to create a soulful work of art out of a collection of tracks and moods. A art that helps you find your feelings again. Maybe also to open the access to your heart. To process experiences and perhaps also to overcome pain. For some more, for others less. Either way. One thing is certain. The mix has once again turned out insanely well. Timeless, positive and with plenty of goosebump moments. A mix you should definitely not miss.

Things that have to happen happen

Just returned back from Burning Man, where we happened to meet these two really nice fellas who turned out to be the fathers of this little cloud. Thanks guys!
Even if we only stayed a few days, Nico Stojan and me had an amazing time with all ups and downs and of course plenty of dust everywhere.
Being in Black Rock City was a perfect reset and somehow seems to become more and more of a new general birthday, meaning that after Burning Man you start into a new year.
This is exactly how I feel. One year has come to an end and a new one is taking over. Also it coincides with the end of the summer up here in the northern hemi.
Now I am very looking forward to go back to the studio and meditate with my machines and cables. I urgently need this time to become a bit more quiet, not yet hibernating, but still creative. This is the reason why there won’t be many shows in the next months. But yet there are some more Acid Sundays to come and of course you always are invited to tune in, turn on and drop out, be it here or on mixcloud or simply on acid. 

Now let’s jump a little back to the beginning of this summer. After a Fusion pause last year it was about time to return and I have to say it was more than a pleasure to play at Seebühne that early Sunday morning, right after Be Svendsen’s amazing set. For some moments even the sun joined for a little dance. And there were so many happy faces to see.
The last 20 minutes are a reminiscence to my set at Splore festival, New Zealand, earlier this year.  I had brought some of my favorite Kiwi music, but ended up in a rush towards the end as they were cutting my set-time. I wanted to to this one more time, properly, without rush. Fusion was the perfect place and moment for it.
You probably might find some tracks that you already know from my others sets, but frankly, I think rather a bit of repetition than not sharing this one at all.
There is one track in particular that I have been playing over and over for the past nine months and I still can not get bored of it. It manifested the day Nana went on to her journey. 
With all my heart, I believe that I was only channelling at the studio that day, because if it really was a track that I had made consciously I would surely have gotten bored after playing it that often ;-)
A lot of people have been asking wether it will be released and when. I am happy to announce: Yes it will be released, almost soon. Even more happy that it will be released on one of my favorite labels, I never dared to ask.
But see, things that have to happen happen.

Nico Stojan is a global citizen, a Berlin native and a devoted eater of Ayurvedic snacks. Chasing the sun, he spends his time between the fast-paced urban spaces of Europe and wild islands in the South Pacific which smell of Manuka honey and exotic plants.

Before he found his home in House, he had another one in Hip-Hop. Here he nurtured his love of jazz and soul and discovered his talent for working the crowd. But it was the vibrant mood of a growing Berlin club scene and a residency at Bar25 that would change his musical direction and bring him a new set of listeners that would soon become like family. These are the ones who laugh a lot, hug regularly and travel often, and they’ve taken him everywhere; to the big festivals that always sell out to the smaller ones that never do. Here he plays warm sets, hands in the air sets, lush sets. Sometimes he wears a turban while doing so.

In the studio he appreciates the mix of analogue and digital which is the basis of his long awaited album ‘Twisted Manners’ (to be released in 2015). Calling in the cavalry along the way, these passing poets and faraway instruments helped him to achieve his visions and create a sound for the right now. A sound to make its way into the hearts of all the other urban/tropical gypsies that exist out there.

Yet the old hip-hop guy in him still speaks. Plays vinyl when he can or uses digital technology to bring the right frequencies to the people. Whatever the method, he plays it like an instrument and plays the crowd like one too, almost as if being channelled by something that we can’t quite touch. One of the dreamiest realists that you'll get to know, he understands that magic hides within our reach, you just have to pull it from the dust.

And he does his best with this dust-pulling stuff. For who? For us...

I dedicate this podcast to my little friend, a German Shephard nearly 10 months old that i found in front of my apartment last night, when i was back home at 02.00 a.m. The weather was freezing cold so i took him inside. Now he's in his new owner's home that we found with my friends after that night. I Felt very sad when he got in the car to go to his new family. Witchtape #54 | Guest Wizards : Dauw & Schemering

(Story continued from Witchtape #53)

After saying goodbye to the tiny little black witch in the middle of the African rain forest, the witch and wizard flew eastwards, following the equator.  The unspoiled forest underneath them was so vast that two hours later, they still hadn’t reached the edge.  It’s a little known fact that also wizards can fly, as their code of conduct dictates them to travel the world on foot, except when they’re in the company of a witch.  So it’s easy to understand that the young witch was a much more skillful flyer than the giant wizard, who hadn’t flown for nearly a century.  Soon the girl got into a playful mood and started to make some perfectly timed loopings and corkscrews around the clumsy wizard, while giggling and yelling the whole time without interruption.  Meanwhile the sun was going down and they were looking for a place to spend the night, when they saw the contours of a huge volcano light up in the soft evening twilight.  The couple climbed to a higher altitude, until they were above the tree line where they decided to land.  They touched down on a patch of soft moss, and soon they were lying in each other’s arms, finally reunited after 5 months of separation.  It was getting cold quickly, so the little white witch snuggled really close to the giant black wizard, caressing his grey beard while his hands enjoyed the incredible softness of a young witch’s hair.  Soon a majestic full moon rose above the horizon, while the witch and wizard listened to each other’s heartbeat, which was soon joined by the faint but bouncy heartbeat of the unborn new witch who was clearly enjoying the company of her father, as she refused to fall asleep.  It was well past midnight when the three of them fell asleep, under the soft moonlight, high up the slopes of a volcano which was towering above the pristine African rain forest.  They woke up before dawn, and became immediately spellbound by the myriad different colors of the morning twilight.  Slowly the mountain bathed in light and when the little witch looked at the wizard, she started to laugh when she saw dewdrops all over his long beard (after which he started to chuckle too).  Just seconds later, the first ray of sunlight hit the mountain and soon they were bathing in the sun, while the forest in the valley was still plunged in darkness.  Soon time had come to continue flying into the direction of the sun.  The wizard became very excited as he knew that they were nearing his home ground… the village where he was born and raised… the destination of their epic trip to the heart of Africa…

Dauw & Schemering present Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 191

Unsere Nr. 191 kommt zur Abwechslung diese Mal nicht aus Berlin. Und schon gar nicht aus good old Germany. „Endlich“ schallt es aus dem Fenster meines Nachbarn, namentlich Klaus, dem Explorer in Person. Dem Spesarträuber per exelence. Dem einfachen Menschen mit großem Herzen. Nichts gegen Klaus und schon gar nichts gegen meine Lieblingsstadt, aber ein wenig frische Luft tut immer gut. Ob Urlaub, eine neue Aufleglocation oder ein neues Gartenprojekt. Veränderungen bereiten stets Freude, auch wenn es auf den ersten Blick natürlich eine Herausforderung ist. Wer mich persönlich kennt weiß, dass ich immer wieder auf der Suche nach neuen Orten, interessanten Menschen und vor allem einzigartiger Musik bin. Daher gibt es heute logischerweise einen für mich ganz besonderen Podcast von einem DJ-Duo, welches ich zur Hälfte bereits vor Jahren auf dem Brüxsel Jardin Open Air (https://soundcloud.com/bruxseljardin) in Brüssel persönlich kennengelernt habe. Zeitreise. Wir schreiben das Jahr 2014. Brüssel, historische, obere Innenstadt, herzerwärmende, seelendurchflutende Sonne, extatische Menschen, Acid Pauli und noch viele mehr. Wow. Die Jahre vergingen, der Sound blieb. Gut so.

Die Rede ist von den beiden Belgiern „Dauw & Schemering“, die mit ihrem ganz speziellen, aber mega faszinierenden Sound immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut sind. Hier bei uns unter dem Radar schwimmend, möchte ich Ihnen nun eine Bühne bieten, die ihrem Können gerecht wird.

Ohne zu übertreiben, Ihr zweistündiges Set ist eines dieser Casts, an die man sich noch lange erinnern wird. Was wie eine Phrase klingt, entpuppt sich schlussendlich als Tatsache. Warum? Weil es durch und durch zeitlos und unter uns gesprochen, perfekt für eine Afterhour geeignet ist. Ganz einfach. Der Aufbau der Aufnahme ist überwältigend gut durchdacht und überaus harmonisch arrangiert. Daher verwundert es nicht, dass Sie den Hörer, ja mich,  von Anfang an mit auf eine intensive und im weiteren Verlauf abwechslungsreiche Reise mitnehmen. Ich kann mich an dieser Stelle abermalig wiederholen. Und das mit Nachdruck! Alleine die ersten zwölf Minuten sind das Hören bereits wert. Träumerisch, tiefenergreifend und nachdrücklich deep passieren die Minuten und Tracks nahezu schwerelos an einem vorbei, als würde man sich im Tiefschlaf befinden. Oder einfach etwas tun, was einem von ganzem Herzen Freude bereitet. Ein Rezept für ganz besondere Podcasts wie ich finde. Definitiv ein Merkmal was viele DJ’s und Producer nicht können oder heute nicht mehr befolgen wollen. Sei‘s drum. Hier ja. Ganz einfach. Schwerelos und doch so eindringlich nachhallend. 

Wir schreiben Minute 15…

Im weiteren Verlauf nimmt das Set eine kleine Wendung hin zum Verspielten, bleibt aber dem ursprünglichen, verträumten Charakter treu. Angereichert mit sinnlicher Melodie, ab und dann Stimmen aus dem Off und organischen Klängen laden Sie einen dezent, aber nachdrücklich zum Nachdenken und Sinnieren ein. 
Hierbei bringen Sie zudem immer wieder gekonnt verspielte, experimentelle Tracks mit ein. Irgendwo zwischen Breakbeat, Ambient, Deep House, World nimmt der Cast nun fortan seine Reise, um den Hörer ihn immer weiter in die Tiefe ihres Sounds zu entführen. Mission accomplished. Wir schreiben Minuten 120. Die zwei Stunden ziehen wie im Nu vorbei…und dann wird alles mit einem unnachahmlichen Finish garniert. Darauf lohnt sich das Warten definitiv. 

Schnallt euch an… es erwartet euch eine Reise, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour ist. Keine Phrase, sondern ehrliche Worte eines musikverliebten Spessarters.

'Schemering' is best known as one half of the dj duo 'Dauw & Schemering'. They quickly paved their way into the Belgian music scene and beyond. Their names — translate to ‘Dew’ and ‘Twilight’ — complement as much as the duo's exquisite taste for refined house music. Consider it a yin-yang situation in which their determination and urge for perfection seamlessly blend together into one experience.

Known for gigs at ADE, Afrika Burn, The Gardens of Babylon & Tomorrowland and heating up dance floors in renowned Belgian venues like Café d'Anvers, Club Vaag and Decadance to only name a few. 2016 and 2017 gave them a quick jump to some international gigs in Stockholm, Berlin, Amsterdam and Tulum. But maybe they're even better known for their elaborate list of delicately crafted podcasts for a wide range of respected music channels.
