Piers Plowright described himself as a 'radio man'. He'd grown up in a home where the wireless was moved into the living room of an evening for family listening.

Others have called Piers, who died in July 2021, the Godfather of the British Radio Feature.

His thirty-year BBC career began in 1968 as a trainee in English By Radio, after which he migrated via drama to documentaries. There, his programmes received radio's highest accolade, the Prix Italia, on three occasions. Yet he remained always modest, a practised listener, a supporter of colleagues, a composer of sound, silence and word, and - for all his erudition and love of culture - a mischievous spirit.

All of this is felt in his many programmes (see below). In a medium described as having no memory, the quality and distinctiveness of Piers' radio programmes - and the grace of the man - are long remembered.

While the Irish public have a healthy appetite for watching YouTube, they have yet to develop the taste for internet stardom. But what motivates this new generation of content creators?

Ireland’s YouTubers have found slight success, with the likes of Jacksepticeye and Daithi De Nogla, accruing over 25 million subscribers between them. But for most, a career as a content creator isn’t a realistic prospect. But what drives these people to chronicle their daily lives? Are they compulsive sharers? Sociopaths? Vultures trying to monestise themselves as a commodity? Dara Tah belongs to this new breed of Irish Youtuber, but he also critiques and reflects on the culture itself. Our reporter, Jenny Murphy Byrne delves deep into the psyche of these serial over-sharers.

Wedged within a tiny slice of an intersectional Venn diagram, Adeline is an intersex, transgender, sex worker. In the wake of the election of Donald Trump, she left Austin, Texas and returned home to Ireland alongside her wife and two children to build a new life, only to be gridlocked by the State’s adoption of an oppressive sex work legislation, an abysmal transgender healthcare system and the traumatic memories of her upbringing in Tallaght in the 70s and 80s.
